Update on WWE ring announcing

May 6, 2024 - by Steve Gerweck

Fightful reports Alicia Taylor is scheduled to begin ring announcing on the main roster imminently.

Mike Rome will return to NXT and for Alicia Taylor, she’ll be on Smackdown

This will mean the main roster will have an all black women ring announce team going forward for the first time.

who gives a flying monkeys ass what race and gender they are, ALL 3 DO A GREAT JOB, and Samantha Irvin is THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS

  2. What? says:

Yeah, I mean, that’s…great, I guess? Samantha has deservedly been having a moment lately, Alicia’s been killing it in NXT, Rome is consistently good, and my enjoyment of their work and respect for their talent is unaffected for the better or the worse by their biology. To paraphrase John Roberts, the best way to stop making everything about race is to stop making everything about race. (And/or gender.)

So are you saying it’s good or bad to have no diversity?

  4. What? says:

I can’t speak for anyone else, but what I’m saying has nothing to do with diversity. The decision process should be: who’s the best person for Raw? Put that person there. Who’s the best for Smackdown? Job’s yours. Best for NXT? Congratulations. Diversity for diversity’s sake shouldn’t be the goal, but if you achieve diversity in the process of choosing the best people as WWE has, so much the better. Alicia Taylor could be a black woman or a white man or a Mexican-Asian hermaphrodite and I would enjoy NXT’s ring announcing just the same, no more and no less, because the point is that she’s currently the best *person,* no adjectives, for that role.
