9/23/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

The show opens with a tribute still-shot for the late Road Warrior Animal.

The opening credits roll. Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss vs. Kip Sabian and Miro (w/Penelope Ford)
Kiss and Sabian start the match, and Sabian takes Kiss to the mat. Kiss comes back and drops Sabian with an arm-drag and then slaps him in the face in the corner. Miro tags in, as does Janela, but then Sabian tags back in. Sabian drops Janela with a right hand and sends him off the ropes. Kiss makes a blind tag and takes Sabian down with a cross-body. Kiss goes for the cover, but Sabian kicks out. Janela comes back in and hits Sabian with an ax handle. Kiss comes back in and connects with a standing moonsault and goes for the cover, but Sabian kicks out. Miro comes in and delivers a shot to Kiss and then officially tags in. Miro sends Kiss to the corner and then slams Janela to the mat. Sabian tags back in and delivers shots to Kiss in the corner. Sabian whips Kiss into the opposite corner and tags Miro in. Miro slams Kiss to the mat and then throws him across the ring. Miro kicks Kiss in the midsection and delivers an uppercut. Miro goes for the cover, but Kiss kicks out. Sabian tags in and kicks Kiss in the face. Sabian goes for the cover, but Kiss kicks out again. Miro gets into the ring as Kiss tags Janela, but the referee doesn’t see the tag.
Sabian holds Kiss in the corner as Miro tags in and kicks him in the midsection. Miro chokes Kiss over the ropes and kicks him in the back of the head. Sabian tags back in as Miro stomps on Kiss. Kiss gets Sabian with a roll-up for two and then delivers quick strikes to Sabian. Janela tags in and drops Sabian with a few shots. He delivers a shot to Miro and sends him to the floor. Janela kicks Miro in the face and gets Sabian to the floor. Sabian counters and sends Janela to Miro, who sends him over the barricade. Sabian charges and Miro sends him to Janela, but Janela drops Sabian on the concrete. Kiss gets involved and Janela comes back and tosses Sabian into the ring. Janela delivers a thrust kick and goes for the cover, but Sabian kicks out. Janela gets into the ring, but Miro takes him down with a clothesline. Miro sends Kiss to the floor and drops Janela with a kick. Miro tags in, but Kiss delivers shots to Sabian and Miro. Miro drops Kiss to the mat and goes for the cover, but Janela breaks it up. Miro throws Janela to the floor and then kicks Kiss in the face. Miro stomps on Kiss’s back and locks in Game Over and Kiss taps out.
Winners: Kip Sabian and Miro

Eddie Kingston comes to the ring. He says the main event has changed for tonight, and it is now he and Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. He says he was never eliminated form the Casino Battle Royale, and eighteen years says he deserves the shot. He says Moxley sold out while he stayed true and never sold his soul to the devil. He calls Moxley a sports entertainer and calls him out to the ring. Moxley gets into the ring and they get face-to-face as referees rush out to get them separated.

Kenny Omega joins the commentary team for the next match.

Match #2 – Singles Match: Adam Page vs. Evil Uno (w/Alan Angels, Anna Jay, Colt Cabana, John Silver, and Preston Vance)
Page and Uno go back and forth for a bit, and then Page sends Uno to the corner with a shot. Page delivers a few chops and slams Uno to the mat. Page picks Uno up and slams him again and goes for the cover, but Uno kicks out. Uno comes back with a back suplex and beats Page into the corner. Page comes back with a clothesline that sends Uno to the floor. Page gets Uno back into the ring, but Uno takes control back as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Page delivers a few chops to Uno. Uno comes back with a back elbow that sends Page to the stage. The Dark Order members on the stage, minus Cabana, move toward Page, but Uno tells them to back up and go backstage. They all leave, but Page slams Uno on the apron. Page gets Uno back into the ring and goes up top. Page goes for a clothesline, but Uno dodges. Uno goes for a clothesline of his own, but Page dodges and drops Uno with a fall-away slam. Page connects with a running Shooting Star Press and goes for the cover, but Uno kicks out. Page clotheslines Uno in the corner, but Uno comes back and slams Page to the mat. Uno connects with a senton and goes for the cover, but Page kicks out. They go for clotheslines on each other and then Page takes control and drops Uno to the mat. Page delivers the Buckshot Lariat and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Adam Page

Earlier today, Tony Schiavone interviewed The Young Bucks. Matt Jackson says they have been acting out of character, and they were out of line when they superkicked Alex Marvez and Mike Posey. Matt says they have gone through a lot and have lost friendships lately. Schiavone asks Matt about FTR, but Matt tells him to go to the next question. He asks another question about FTR, and Matt asks him if he is trying to make him mad. Matt takes Schiavone’s phone and breaks it against the wall. Matt throws some money at Schiavone and walks back into the locker room.

Match #3 – AEW TNT Championship Match: Mr. Brodie Lee (c) (w/Alan Angels, Anna Jay, Evil Uno, John Silver, and Preston Vance) vs. Orange Cassidy
Cassidy delivers his devastating kicks to Lee, but Lee stomps on his foot and drops him with an uppercut. Cassidy comes back with a dropkick that sends Lee to the floor. Cassidy goes for a dive onto the Dark Order members on the floor, but they catch him. Lee then takes them all out with a dive. Lee drops Cassidy over the barricade and rolls him back into the ring. Lee drops and elbow and goes for the cover, but Cassidy kicks out. Lee delivers a chop and tosses Cassidy to the floor. The Dark Order members stomp on Cassidy behind the referee’s back and Lee tosses him back into the ring. Lee connects with a senton and goes for the cover, but Cassidy kicks out. Lee sends Cassidy to the floor and then shoves Silver away. He tells Silver to get his belt. Lee tosses Cassidy back into the ring and slams him to the mat after countering a DDT attempt. Lee goes for the cover, but Cassidy kicks out as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Lee drops Cassidy with a half-and-half suplex. Lee goes for the Discus Lariat, but Cassidy sits down in the ring. Lee picks him up again and goes for it again, but Cassidy falls again. Cassidy gets a roll-up for two and then sends him into the corners. Cassidy sends Lee to the floor and sends him into the barricade with a dive. Cassidy connects on another dive and then takes out The Dark Order members at ringside. He causes Silver to hit Vance with the title belt and then drops Lee with a Stunner in the ring. Cassidy goes up top and takes Lee down with a diving DDT. Cassidy drops Lee with another shot and delivers another DDT. Cassidy delivers an Air Raid Crash and goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Cassidy takes out Silver and goes for the Orange Punch on Lee, but Lee catches him and delivers a power bomb. Lee connects with the Discus Lariat and gets the pin fall.

-After the match, the lights go out in the arena. Cody’s music hits, and he emerges with a new look. His hair is dyed black, and he is decked out in an all-black suit. Cody goes after The Dark Order members and takes out Angels and Vance.

Dasha is backstage, but Anna Jay sends her away. Lee takes the mic and says Cody had the audacity to return like that. He asks if Cody saw what he did to Dustin and what Anna did to Brandi. Lee says Cody stayed away in a little bubble and is a coward. He says sooner or later, he will cut Cody down. He says he will take the dog collar and wrap it around Cody’s neck, and Cody will have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. He says Cody has one week to answer him, and asks if he is a man or a coward.

Matt Hardy comes to the ring with Private Party. Hardy says he was attacked by a masked man last week, and it was convenient that Chris Jericho and Jake Hager just happened to walk by after it happened. He says Private Party tore the house down against Jericho and Hager last week. He says Jericho wants to be known as the Demo God, but he will always be known as an asshole. Jericho comes to the stage with Hager, Santana, and Ortiz. Jericho wishes Hardy a happy birthday, but then asks who gives a shit. Jericho says Hardy put Sammy Guevara out of action and no one will know when he will be back. Jericho says he just lied and says Guevara is back right now, and Guevara comes to the stage to join them. Jericho says Hardy knows better than to accuse him of attacking him with a bat. Jericho says if he was going to take Hardy out, he would do it face-to-face. Jericho says he can do it right now, and Hardy says he will fight all of them even if he is not cleared. Marq Quen calms him down and tells him to heal up and be cleared, because they need him. Quen says he is cleared and Kassidy says they have beaten Santana and Ortiz not once, but twice. Kassidy challenges Jericho to a match next week. He says if Jericho accepts, he will make Le Champion his bitch.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring with FTR and Tully Blanchard. Blanchard says thousands of fans every week get to see the greatest tag team in the world carry the gold. He says normally, title matches have a 60-minute time limit. He says he is going to change that. He says if FTR defend the title on television, it will be 20 minutes, and FTR says it will be 20 minutes with a brush of greatness. Blanchard says they get to pick the opponents, and they choose SCU for next week. Blanchard says SCU has to win in the 20 minutes, or FTR get credit for a win, even if the time runs out. Dax Harwood interrupts and talks about who will be after SCU, but Best Friends interrupt. Trent says what they did last week was a war. Trent says both teams are here and says to do the 20 minute challenge right now. Harwood says Trent’s mom isn’t here to fight his battles right now, and tells Blanchard to get a referee out here. The referee goes to ring the bell, but Harwood stops him. Cash Wheeler says they cannot do this, but it’s because Best Friends clearly aren’t one hundred percent. Wheeler tells them to take a few weeks, and then call Blanchard. Chuck Taylor says at least Santana and Ortiz didn’t run like a couple of weenies. Taylor and Trent show FTR how to really share a hug as FTR and Blanchard leave.

Match #4 – Tag Team Match: Diamante and Ivelisse vs. Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa
Diamante and Ivelisse attack Shida and Rosa from behind. Ivelisse takes Rosa to the floor as Diamante works over Shida in the ring. Ivelisse joins the beat down of Shida and drop her with a double suplex. Diamante goes for the cover, but Shida kicks out. Shida comes back with a back-breaker to Diamante, and then goes for a kick on the outside, but Ivelisse connects with a kick. Rosa kicks Diamante in the face, and then she and Shida take control. Shida slams Diamante to the mat and tags in Rosa. Shida slams Rosa onto Diamante and Rosa goes for the cover, but Diamante kicks out. Rosa takes Diamante down with a few arm-drags. Diamante comes back and backs Rosa into the corner and tags in Ivelisse. They double team Rosa and take her to the mat. Ivelisse delivers a few shots and clubs Rosa across the back. Ivelisse slams Rosa to the mat and goes for the cover, but Rosa kicks out as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Diamante and Ivelisse are still in control. Ivelisee drops Shida to the mat and goes for the cover, but Rosa breaks it up. Shida comes back with an enzuugiri and goes for the Falcon Arrow, but Ivelisse gets free. Ivelisse delivers a knee strike to Shida and a kick to Rosa. Ivelisse connects with a kick to Shida and goes for the cover, but Shida kicks out. Diamante tags in and they double team Shida to the mat. Diamante goes for the cover, but Rosa breaks it up. Rosa and Ivelisse go to the floor as Shida grabs Diamante. Rosa gets into the ring and drops Diamante with the Death Valley Driver. Shida drops Diamante with the Falcon Arrow and goes for the cover, but Ivelisse breaks it up. Rosa sends Ivelisse to the floor and Shida drops Diamante with a knee strike and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa

Dasha is backstage with Jericho. Jericho says, deep down, he has some respect for Isiah Kassidy. He says someday, he may be a big star, but not next week. Jericho says he will take out Kassidy next week. MJF walks in and says it is deplorable that Kassidy would disrespect Jericho like he did. Jericho agrees and says it means a lot that it is coming from MJF. MJF says it means a lot for Jericho to say that to him. They call each other great and then simultaneously ask why they called each other a loser. MJF says he would never call Jericho a loser and says he was talking about the limo drivers. Jericho agrees with him and says he was calling Schiavone a loser. They fist bump and mock Schiavone a bit. Jericho says MJF is alright, and MJF says the same about Jericho.

Match #5 – AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Eddie Kingston
They lock up and Kingston applies a headlock. Kingston takes Moxley down, but Moxley turns it into a head scissors hold. Kingston gets free, but Moxley goes behind with a hammer-lock. Kingston gets to the ropes and they exchange chops. Moxley delivers forearm shots, but Kingston delivers an enzuigiri and a clothesline. Kingston sends Moxley to the floor and delivers a few shots to the kidneys. Moxley comes back and chops Kingston against the apron, but Kingston sends him into the timekeeper’s area as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Kingston has Moxley in a face-lock on the mat. Moxley fights free and delivers a chop, but Kingston takes him down with another shot. Kingston delivers more shots and delivers a kick to the face, but Moxley rebounds and drops Kingston with a clothesline. Kingston goes to the floor, but Moxley takes him out with a dive. Moxley drops Kingston with a suplex on the floor and gets Kingston back into the ring. Moxley goes for the cover, but Kingston gets his foot on the rope. Moxley clotheslines Kingston in the corner and delivers elbow shots. Moxley backs away and charges, but Kingston catches him and slams him to the mat. They exchange chops and Kingston goes for a kick, but Moxley drops him with a suplex. Kingston comes back with two back-drop drivers and goes for the cover, but Moxley kicks out. Kingston chops Moxley in the corner a few times and goes for a back fist, but Moxley blocks it. Moxley locks in a bulldog choke and Kingston passes out.
Winner and still AEW World Champion: Jon Moxley
-After the match, The Lucha Brothers rush the ring and double superkick Moxley. Will Hobbs rushes out and delivers a spine buster to Rey Fenix. Hobbs delivers shots to Penta El Zero M and Kingston, but the Lucha Brothers drop him with a double superkick. Penta chokes Moxley with his knee, but Darby Allin comes out and hits Penta, Fenix, and Kingston with his skateboard. Ricky Starks gets into the ring and plants Allin. Taz comes out as Starks, Penta, and Fenix gain control of the brawl and leave Moxley, Hobbs, and Allin lying as the show comes to a close.
