– In her youth, Benitez played basketball and softball
– She majored in criminal justice from Teikyo Post University in her native Waterbury
– Benitez turned to wrestling following an injury sustained while playing college basketball
– After training under Jason Knight, Benitez debuted as ‘Mercedes Martinez’ on November 12, 2000, defeating Juice
