– In her youth, Benitez played basketball and softball
– She majored in criminal justice from Teikyo Post University in her native Waterbury
– Benitez turned to wrestling following an injury sustained while playing college basketball
– After training under Jason Knight, Benitez debuted as ‘Mercedes Martinez’ on November 12, 2000, defeating Juice
– On September 27, 2002, Martinez reached the final of the first ever WXW Women’s Elite 8 Tournament, losing to Tracy Brooks
– Martinez made an appearance on TNA Xplosion in June 2003, losing to Desire
