1/11/17 NXT Recap: Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, Elias Samson, Andrade Almas in Action; #DIY vs. Revival Main Event

The show opens with a preview of tonight’s main event: #DIY vs. The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championship. We then see the opening video and go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, and Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show.

We see breaking footage that shows Asuka being attacked outside of the arena by Billie Kay and Peyton Royce.

Match #1: Billie Kay and Peyton Royce vs. Sarah Bridges and Macey Evans
Macey and Billie start the match before and Peyton immediately provides a distraction and Billie takes advantage with a big forearm shot. Billie takes Macey to the corner and tags in Peyton, who drops Macey with a big kick. Peyton tags Billie back in and she delivers a few clubbing shots to Macey before tagging Peyton back in. Macey gets away and tags in Sarah, who takes Billie and Peyton down with a double dropkick and then delivers a few more soccer-style kicks to each of them. The referee tries to get Peyton out of the ring and Billie rakes Sarah’s eyes. Billie tags Peyton in, and she slams Sarah’s head into Billie’s knee and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Billie Kay and Peyton Royce.
After the match, Peyton and Billie grabs microphones. Billie says that Asuka learned the hard way that they are the dominant duo in the NXT Women’s Division and that Asuka’s title belongs to them. Asuka comes out and fights off referees to get into the ring, but Billie and Peyton beat her down in the ring. Nikki Cross rushes the ring and beats down Peyton and Billie and chases them out of the ring. Asuka then gets to her feet, but Nikki takes her down with a missile dropkick. Nikki goes crazy for a bit in the ring and then stands over Asuka before leaving the ring as referees check on Asuka.

We are reminded that #DIY will defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against The Revival later tonight and then see that Tom Phillips will have an exclusive interview with Shinsuke Nakamura later tonight as well.

We are informed that Starset’s song “Monster” will be one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: San Antonio. We then take a look back at the carnage involving the NXT Women’s Division from just a few minutes ago. We see what happened during the break, which was Asuka going crazy and taking down a referee and chasing the others from the ring. We then see Nikki Cross walking with Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe. She says she is going to take the NXT Women’s Championship, and Eric Young says they said they were going to take and it starts with this.

Match #2: Elias Samson vs. Johnathan Cruz
They tie up and Samson backs Cruz into the corner. Cruz shoves him away to break the hold. They tie up again and Samson applies a wrist-lock. Samson slams Cruz down to the mat and drives his shoulder into Cruz a few times. Cruz comes back with a slap, but Samson takes him to the corner with a big chop. Samson tosses Cruz into the corner and charges, but Cruz goes over and rolls Samson up a few times for a few quick pin attempts, but Samson kicks out each time. Samson comes back with a big clothesline and beats him down in the corner. Samson slams Cruz into the corner again and then wraps him around the ring post. Samson delivers a few right hands and then slams Cruz down on the ring apron. Samson drives a knee into the side of Cruz’s head and then drops him with a big boot. Samson picks Cruz up and slams him back down to the mat with a neck-breaker to get the pin fall.
Winner: Elias Samson.

We take a look back at the match between #DIY and The Revival at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II last August, which The Revival won to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Match #3: Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Oney Lorcan
Almas applies a headlock and then throws Lorcan down to the mat and strikes a pose. Almas slaps Lorcan across the face and they exchange waist-locks. Lorcan shoves Almas into the ropes and Almas catches himself and poses. Lorcan dropkicks him to the floor and then dives out onto Almas. Lorcan slaps Almas int he throat and tosses him back into the ring. Lorcan goes for the cover, but Almas kicks out at two. Almas comes back with a neck-breaker and an elbow drop. Almas takes Lorcan to the corner and slams him across the face again. Almas stomps away on Lorcan and then drives him into another corner. Lorcan comes back with a back elbow and sends Almas off the ropes, but Almas takes him down with a standing dropkick. Almas goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out at two and Almas immediately locks in the arm-bar. Lorcan gets to his feet and delivers a few right hands. Lorcan takes Almas down with a few short-arm clotheslines and then an uppercut. Lorcan connects with a hip attack in the corner and then tosses Almas down to the mat. Lorcan goes for the running blockbuster, but Almas moves and delivers an elbow shot to Lorcan. Lorcan comes right back and slams Almas into the top turnbuckle. Lorcan tries to go after Almas, but the referee holds him back because Almas was in the ropes. Almas dropkicks Lorcan int he knee and drops him with a hammer-lock DDT and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Andrade “Cien” Almas.
After the match, Dasha Fuentes asks Almas what we can expect from him in 2017 and he begins cutting a promo in Spanish. He then gets mad at the crowd for not understanding Spanish. He then changes to English and says this is his dream. He switches back to Spanish and says Oney Lorcan was first and Roderick Strong is next.

We take a look back at the match between #DIY and The Revival at NXT TakeOver: Toronto last November, in which #DIY won to win the NXT Tag Team Championship. We then see that Tom Phillip’s exclusive interview with Shinsuke Nakamura is up next.

We see that Ghost’s “Square Hammer” is one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: San Antonio.

Tom Phillips asks Shinsuke Nakamura how it feels to have the rivalry with Samoa Joe finally over. Nakamura says the matches were tough and he is proud to still be the NXT Champion. Phillips asks Nakamura about Bobby Roode. Nakamura says Roode is one of the best wrestlers in the world, but he is not strong and is not the king and he will not win the NXT Championship. Phillips says Roode declines an interview but wants to give Nakamura something. Phillips hands Nakamura Bobby Roode’s ticket from NXT TakeOver: Dallas from last April, which was Nakamura’s in-ring debut that Roode watched from ringside.

Match #4: NXT Tag Team Championship Match: #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) (c) vs. The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder)
Gargano and Dawson start the match. They tie up and Dawson backs Gargano into the corner. Dawson decks Gargano with a couple right hands and then sends him to the opposite corner. Gargano goes over the top of Dawson, but Dawson takes him down anyway. Gargano comes back and delivers an inverted atomic drop to Dawson and Ciampa tags in. Wilder gets involved and #DIY clothesline The Revival to the outside as we head to a break.
We’re back and Dawson and Gargano are back in the ring. Wilder makes a blind tag as Gargano keeps working over Dawson. Wilder runs in and takes out Gargano’s knee and takes him down to the mat. Dawson tags back in and works over Gargano’s knee in the middle of the ring. Wilder tags in and wraps Gargano’s knee around the ring post. Dawson delivers a cheap shot and Gargano drops to the floor. Dawson tags back in and hangs Gargano in the tree of woe. He and Wilder beat down Gargano and Wilder tags in. Gargano tries to come back and takes Dawson to the floor and rolls up Wilder, but Dawson distracts the referee. The referee turns around and see it and counts, but Wilder kicks out at two. Dawson tags back in and stomps away on Gargano and then tosses him out to the floor. Wilder tags in and grabs Gargano on the floor. Gargano shoves Wilder into the ring post and Dawson tosses Wilder back into the ring. Dawson tags in and takes Gargano down in the ring as Gargano was going to tag Ciampa. Dawson and Wilder double-team Gargano and Dawson goes for the cover, but Gargano kicks out at two as we head to a break.
We’re back and Dawson is still working over Gargano’s knee in the corner. Gargano gets to the ropes, but Wilder tags in and drops an elbow on Gargano. Wilder slaps Gargano across the face a few times, but Gargano takes him down with an enzuiguri. Dawson tags in and tries to cut Gargano off, but Gargano gets to Ciampa and tags him in. Ciampa takes Dawson down with a few German suplexes and takes Wilder down with a back-drop at the same time. Ciampa drives a knee into Dawson’s face and goes for the cover, but Dawson kicks out at two. Wilder tags in and he and Dawson drop Ciampa with a clothesline. Wilder goes for the cover, but Ciampa kicks out at two. Wilder pie-faces Wilder and Dawson gets into the ring and runs the ropes, but Gargano takes him out with a dropkick. Ciampa locks in the arm-bar and Gargano tries to hold Dawson back, but Dawson shoves Gargano into Ciampa and the hold is broken. Dawson tags in, as does Gargano. Gargano kicks Dawson in the head and sends him to the corner, but Dawson sends him to the apron. Gargano takes out Wilder, but Wilder gets back into the ring and goes for the Shatter Machine with Dawson, but Ciampa takes Wilder back to the floor. Dawson rolls up Gargano, but Gargano kicks out at two. Gargano sends Dawson to the floor and then delivers a knee to Wilder to send him to the floor. Gargano and Ciampa dive to the outside and take out Dawson and Dash. Gargano rolls Dawson back into the ring and tags in Ciampa. Wilder pulls Gagrano to the floor and slams him into the ring apron. Dawson goes for the slingshot suplex on Ciampa, but Ciampa counters. Wilder drapes Ciampa over the top rope and Dawson takes Ciampa down with a big DDT. Dawson goes for the cover, but Ciampa kicks out at two. Dawson picks Ciampa up and Wilder goes to the top rope, but Gargano shoves him off. Ciampa tags in Gargano and they double kick Dawson and Dash in the face. Gargano and Ciampa cover Dawson and Wilder and get the pin fall.
Winners and still NXT Tag Team Champions: #DIY.
After the match, Gargano and Ciampa hold their belts in the ring as The Revival leave the ring. The Authors of Pain’s music hits and Paul Ellering makes his way to the stage. Gargano and Ciampa look at him as The Authors jump them from behind. They beat down Gargano and Ciampa and slam them down to the mat. The Authors grab the NXT Tag Team title belts and hold them in the air and then throw them down onto Gargano and Ciampa.

We go backstage with NXT General Manager, William Regal, and he announces that #DIY will defend their NXT Tag Team Championship against The Authors of Pain at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio. Regal also announces that we will have a contract signing between Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode. Asuka barges in and demands a match at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio. Regal asks her against who and she says, “All of them!” as NXT comes to a close.
