2/13/18 WWE 205 Live Coverage: Tozawa vs. Andrews; Gulak vs. Nese

205 Live opens with a recap of last weeks show, which saw Kalisto and Roderick Strong advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament to crown a new WWE Cruiserweight Champion. We are reminded of tonight’s two First Round matches: Akira Tozawa vs. Mark Andrews and Drew Gulak vs. Tony Nese.

Match #1 – Tournament First Round Match for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Akira Tozawa vs. Mark Andrews
Andrews takes Tozawa down to the mat and applies a side-headlock, but Tozawa quickly gets free. Andrews takes Tozawa down again and works over Tozawa’s ankle as we see 205 Live GM, Drake Maverick, watching from backstage. Andrews drops down onto Tozawa’s knee and then applies a wrist-lock. Tozawa turns it into one of his own, but Andrews counters into an octopus submission. Andrews rolls Tozawa up, but Tozawa kicks out at two. Andrews drops Tozawa with an arm-drag, but Tozawa comes back with a kick to the midsection. Andrews takes Tozawa down again and goes for the cover, but Tozawa quickly kicks out. Andrews and Tozawa exchange chops and slaps and Tozawa drops Andrews witha right jab. Tozawa stomps away on Andrews in the corner and then kicks him in the chest. Tozawa delivers a quick senton and goes for the cover, but Andrews kicks out at two.
Tozawa applies a modified shoulder bar submission, but Andrews gets to his feet. Tozawa keeps control with forearm shots and then applies the shoulder bar on the mat again. Andrews fights back with forearm shots and takes Tozawa down. Tozawa comes back with a knee shot, but Andrews catches Tozawa with a springboard cross-body. Andrews goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out at two. Andrews applies an Indian Deathlock down on the mat and then goes for the octopus submission again, but Tozawa fights free. Tozawa takes Andrews down and connects with the Shining Wizard. Tozawa goes up top and goes for the senton, but Andrews rolls to the floor. Tozawa takes Andrews out with a suicide dive and rolls him back into the ring. Tozawa goes for the cover, but Andrews kicks out at two.
Tozawa drags Andrews to the corner and goes up top, but Andrews gets to his feet. Andrews drives his knees into Tozawa and takes him down with a Northern Lights suplex. Andrews connects with a standing corkscrew and goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out at two. Tozawa comes back with kicks to the midsection and a back-drop driver and goes for the cover, but Andrews kicks out at two. Tozawa connects with forearm shots, but Andrews comes back with a kick to the midsection. Tozawa comes back with a boot to the face, but Andrews counters with the Stundog Millionaire Stunner. Andrews goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out at two. Andrews puts Tozawa up top and climbs. Andrews takes Tozawa to the mat with a head scissors take down and goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out at two. Andrews goes back up top and goes for the Shooting Star Press, but Tozawa moves and kicks Andrews in the face. Tozawa goes after Andrews, but Andrews rolls through and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Mark Andrews.

We see Gentleman Jack Gallagher backstage. We hear that he will take on Mustafa Ali on next week’s show. He is interrupted by Drake Maverick. Maverick says Gallagher needs to wrestle in appropriate attire and he expects him to do so next week.

Back from the break, we see that the other match next week will be Ariya Daivari vs. Buddy Murphy. We then see a hype video for Murphy, which includes a weigh-in showing that he meets the weight limit.

We see Drew Gulak warming up for his match backstage, as well as Tony Nese doing the same.

Match #2 – Tournament First Round Match for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Drew Gulak vs. Tony Nese
Gulak goes for a handshake, but Nese slaps it away. Nese drops Gulak to the mat and flexes in his face. Gulak comes back with a rear chin-lock, but Nese rolls him over for a one count. Gulak comes back and wrenches Nese’s neck and then goes for an abdominal stretch. Nese drops Gulak to the mat, but Gulak keeps control and gets another one count. Nese comes back and stomps down on Dulak and then tosses him to the floor. Nese drops Gulak with a forearm shot, but Gulak comes back with a suplex on the floor. Gulak tosses Nese back into the ring and applies a simple arm-bar submission, but Nese fights back. Gulak comes off the ropes, but Nese drops him with a forearm shot and both men are down.
Nese comes off the ropes and takes Gulak down with a kick to the face and then a spinning elbow in the corner. Nese goes for the cover, but Gulak kicks out at two. Gulak comes back with an elbow shot, but Nese comes back with a headbutt and sends Gulak to the mat. Nese goes for the cover, but Gulak kicks out at two. Gulak comes back and drops Nese with a suplex and goes for a cover of his own, but Nese kicks out at two. Gulak slaps Nese across the face and then drops him with a back drop. Gulak goes for the cover, but Nese kicks out at two. Gulak applies a guillotine choke, but Nese gets free and delivers a few shots. Nese drives Gulak to the mat and goes for the cover, but Gulak kicks out at two.
Nese power bombs Gulak into the corner and then does the same in the next corner. Nese goes for the running knees, but Gulak moves and goes to the floor. Nese goes with him and slaps him and then tosses him back into the ring. Gulak comes back and slams Nese into the announce table. Gulak slams Nese into the table again and then a third time. Gulak tosses Nese back into the ring and turns him inside-out with a clothesline. Gulak power bombs Nese twice and then locks in the Dragon Sleeper and the referee calls for the bell.
Winner: Drew Gulak.
