Update on Robert Stone, AEW looking to sign new talent this summer

Apr 23, 2024 - by Steve Gerweck

Fightful Select has learned that Robert Stone will begin producing on tonight’s NXT, and that there are no immediate creative plans for him following Von Wagner’s WWE release, that took place last week.

– The Wrestling Observer backed up Fightful’s report that AEW is looking to sign new talent this summer:

“I know AEW are looking at people whose contracts are coming up. I mean, they’re definitely looking. You know, sometimes you think that they wouldn’t be, considering they made these big investment with signing Okada, Will Ospreay and Mercedes, you’d think they’re not looking for people right now. But, they are.”

Sign Jinder Mahal, we f’n dare you Tony.

  2. What? says:

I’m guessing Von Wagner before Jinder or any of the others, given that Von’s wife is already there. Maybe Trevor Lee/Cameron Grimes, but going back to TNA is definitely an option for him too. But yeah, if Tony hired Jinder and then immediately put him in a title match that would pretty much be peak nonsensical AEW booking right there.

    Who’s Von’s wife?
You try to book someone in AEW in something other than a title match…
Last PPV: 9 matches total, 7 title matches. And the only match that didn’t involve a champion in any way is universally recognized by everyone from Melzer to Cornette as by far the best match on the card. There’s some next level booking right there, Tony’s making Eddie Graham and Bill Watts look like Beavis and Butt-Head…

I can see both Trevor and Jindar being TNA bound. Right now, AEW might have the bigger stage, but AEW also has a bloated roster. That could end up benefitting TNA is acquiring plenty of the recently released talent. Unless you factor the Cardona Effect, and those workers realize they can make bank on the indie circuit.

What’s Kinder the Maharaja doing in the Dynamite Zone?

  6. What? says:

@Luke: He’s married to Harley Cameron. Not exactly a top-level power couple, but it’s probably enough to convince him to go to AEW if they’re interested in him. And don’t worry, Tony will have created plenty more belts by the time Von’s 90 days are up. He’ll be there just in time for the next tournament. 🙂

    You’re thinking of Xyon Quinn.
