Update on Kevin Owens’ future

Sep 8, 2021 - by Marc Middleton

Kevin Owens is reportedly expected to leave WWE early next year.

As we’ve noted, Owens and The Young Bucks have teased on Twitter this week that Owens may be joining his former “Mount Rushmore” stablemates, The Bucks and Adam Cole, in AEW. It was also revealed that Owens’ WWE contract expires in January 2022 instead of 2023 due to the deal being restructured some time ago.

In an update, there is said to be “very much” an internal belief within WWE that Owens is leaving the company when his contract expires, according to Jon Alba.

It was noted that multiple WWE sources believe that Owens will leave the company when he’s able to in January. No other details were provided, but if he does leave, it’s likely that Owens will join his friends in AEW.

Owens is currently working the SmackDown brand in a feud with Baron Corbin. He signed with WWE in August 2014 and is a one-time WWE NXT Champion, a one-time WWE Universal Champion, a three-time WWE United States Champion, and a two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Stay tuned for more on Owens’ future.

This exodus from WWE is achieving near Biblical proportions … 😂

He was also a ten time Boring Champion.

That one would be a bigger loss than Adam Cole though. Owens can at least make himself entertaining and brandable outside the ring. If Vince was smart he’d be spending more time trying to keep KO.

Letting him get his name onto the WWE Championship might be a good bargaining chip. Since it’s something that has eluded him even though he’s had the other two big belts.
