Becky Lynch to be top heel on Smackdown

Aug 23, 2021 - by Marc Middleton

New SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch is set to be the top women’s division heel on the blue brand moving forward.

As noted, Lynch replaced Sasha Banks at Saturday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view as Banks is currently unable to compete. Lynch defeated Bianca Belair in just second to win the title.

In an update, PWInsider reports that multiple WWE sources are saying that Lynch is officially now a heel on the internal roster.

Plans going forward have Lynch to be positioned as the top heel on SmackDown, initially feuding with Belair.

There’s no word yet on when the Belair vs. Lynch rematch will take place, but we will keep you updated.

Stay tuned for more.

Because this CLEARLY makes sense. Nevermind ahat this does to Belair, this is clearly doing something to Sasha. What was the point in turning Sasha? And before the predictable “Sasha and Becky can just team up qnd torment Belair” comes up, no…. just no. All it does is further Becky. Sasha deserves better. Now that I think about it, is there even another face female besides Belair on Smackdown?

It might work but can’t see the universe booing lynch

@Mackdeezy: There are a few, but the booking is a mess. Liv Morgan and Toni Storm haven’t been seen on TV in weeks, while Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart are I guess being built as challengers for the women’s tag titles.

I wish they’d just make Main Event a dual-branded B-show so that Smackdown talent they can’t feature in the weekly 2 hours had at least some extra TV time (instead of just disappearing for weeks)…

Pro wrestling 101. The face chasing the heel champion makes for better TV. Becky is the most popular female they have ever had but she is better as a heel. Team her with Seth.. it would work. Sasha has covid. Bianca gains here because it’s Becky Lynch ffs the biggest female star in wwe history and eventually the face beats the heel

They tried turning her heal once, the fans wouldn’t do it. All depends on the fans.

As far as female faces on Smackdown there’s also Naomi (who also hasn’t been used much lately), but the women’s roster is thin in general, which is not helped by all the injuries. As for Becky, they should have known that returning and winning a 10-second match, even against Belair, wasn’t going to make her a heel in anyone’s eyes. That’s not enough time to establish what’s happening, and as the modern version of the Austin-style anti-hero it’s exactly what Becky’s character would do whether she was a face or a heel. She’s got her work cut out for her on Friday to sell a heel turn – not that I don’t think she’s up to the task.
