8/4/21 AEW Dynamite: Homecoming Recap
The opening credits roll. Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida.
Match #1 – Singles Match; Jericho must win with a top rope move: Chris Jericho vs. Juventud Guerrera
Guerrera backs Jericho into the corner and delivers a series of chops. Jericho elevates Guerrera to the apron, but Guerrera pulls Jericho down by his hair. Guerrera takes Jericho down again with a hurricanrana and clotheslines him to the floor. Guerrera goes up top and takes Jericho down with a seated senton. Guerrera rolls Jericho back into the ring and goes up top to deliver a missile dropkick. Guerrera goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Guerrera delivers a back elbow, but Jericho puts him on the apron. Jericho sends Guerrera to the floor with a shoulder tackle. Jericho chops Guerrera on the floor and slams him into the timekeeper’s table. Jericho rolls Guerrera back into the ring and goes up top. Jericho hits a cross-body and goes for the cover, but Guerrera kicks out. Jericho delivers more shots, but Guerrera comes back with kicks and uppercuts. Guerrera comes off the ropes, but Jericho knocks him to the mat. Guerrera comes back and takes Jericho to the mat. Guerrera goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Guerrera kicks Jericho in the head and goes for another cover, but Jericho kicks out again.
Guerrera applies a submission and chops Jericho into the corner. Guerrera charges at Jericho, but Jericho counters with shoulder tackles. Jericho delivers a right hand and comes off the top with a double ax handle. Jericho goes for the cover, but Guerrera kicks out. Jericho rips Guerrera’s mask, but Guerrera escapes with an elbow. Guerrera drops Jericho on the turnbuckle and puts him up top. Guerrera delivers right hands and goes for an avalanche hurricanrana, but Jericho locks in the Walls from the top rope and pulls Guerrera to the middle of the ring, but Guerrera makes it back to the ropes. Guerrera comes back with a kick and a spinning face-buster. Guerrera delivers a thrust kick and goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Guerrera drops Jericho with a DDT and follows with the Juvi Driver. Guerrera goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Guerrera comes off the ropes, but Jericho counters with the Judas Effect. Jericho goes for the cover, but the referee can’t make the count because it wasn’t off the top rope. Jericho goes up top and hits the Judas Effect from the top rope and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Chris Jericho
-After the match, Wardlow attacks Jericho from behind and beats him down in the corner. Wardlow drops Guerrera with the F-10, and then knocks Jericho out with the Casualty of War. MJF gets on the mic and asks if the moment is ruined for everyone. MJF says he will never allow Jericho to be happy during his labours and his opponent for labour number four will be Wardlow. MJF says the stipulation will have someone calling the match fair and square, and that someone is him.
Dasha Gonzalez is backstage with The Lucha Brothers and Alex Abrahantes. Abrahantes says PAC should be here, but his travel has been canceled. He wonders who could have done it, and Andrade El Idolo and Chavo Guerrero walk up. Guerrero says if they work for Idolo, they will have first class everything. Rey Fenix says they don’t work for anyone, and Penta El Zero Miedo says no.
Tony Schiavone is backstage with The Dark Order. Jon Silver says last week was the biggest match of their lives, but Adam Page walks in. They say they have tried to call him all week, but Page says he needs to stop looking over his shoulder to them. He says he has to do this on his own and it’s best if they go their separate ways. The Dark Order go crazy, but Evil Uno says if that is what Page wants, then they owe it to him to let him go.
Match #2 – Trios Tag Team Match: Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston, and Jon Moxley (w/Sting) vs. 2.0 (Jeff Parker and Matt Lee) and Danny Garcia
Allin and Garcia start the match and Garcia trips Allin up. They exchange quick roll-ups and Garcia delivers a chop. Lee tags in and clocks Allin in the head. Lee slams Allin in the corner, but Allin comes back with boots to the face. Kingston tags in and Lee chops him. Kingston comes back with chops of his own and follows with knee strikes. Kingston stomps Lee down in the corner and Moxley rakes Lee’s eyes behind the referee’s back. Kingston chops Lee against the ropes, but Parker knees Kingston in the back. Lee chop blocks Kingston and Parker tags in as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Kingston and Parker drop each other with simultaneous clotheslines. Garcia stops Kingston from making the tag, but Moxley drops Garcia on the outside and tosses him into the barricade. Kingston sends Parker to the outside, and then Sting get in the faces of 2.0. Allin takes Lee out with a dive and tosses Parker back into the ring. Moxley tags in and goes after Lee. Moxley slams Lee to the mat and Kingston drops Parker with a spinning back fist. Moxley drops Garcia with the Paradigm Shift, and Allin hits the Coffin Drop for the pin fall.
Winners: Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston, and Jon Moxley
Brian Cage cuts a promo on Team Taz. He says Taz cost him an AEW World Championship Match, and then cost him the FTW title. Cage says he never asked for the FTW title and never asked to be with Taz. Cage says being with Taz did nothing for him, and the destruction he caused last week was just the beginning.
The Elite are backstage playing basketball and Doc Gallows says Dark Order can have a shot at the Impact tag titles next week on Dynamite. Nick Jackson asks if there is anyone else to challenge them, and Matt says no. Matt says they are the best collective group ever and Kenny Omega says when it came to the end, Adam Page blew it. He says Page has no friends, is all alone, and now there is no main event. They make Brandon Cutler cut down the net because they are the champions.
Match #3 – Singles Match: Christian Cage vs. The Blade (w/The Bunny)
Cage and Blade brawl on the ramp, and then get into the ring. The bell rings and Blade takes control. Blade stomps Cage, but Cage comes back with a few shots and a clothesline. Cage delivers right hands on the mat and Blade goes to the floor. Cage chases him, but Bunny gets in his way. Cage drops Blade with a right hand anyway and slams him into the barricade. Cage gets Blade back into the ring and goes up top, but Bunny grabs Cage’s ankle. Leyla Hirsch runs out and brawls with Bunny to the back. Blade pulls Cage off the ropes, but Cage counters with a DDT. Cage goes for the cover, but Blade kicks out. Blade comes back and drapes Cage over the top rope. Blade kicks Cage in the face as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Blade is in control, but Cage comes back and sends him to the floor. Cage drops Blade with a dive and tosses him back into the ring. Cage delivers shots and takes Blade to the corner. Cage delivers a series of rights and lefts and puts Blade over the middle rope. Cage stands on Blade’s back and then delivers an uppercut. Cage kicks Blade in the midsection and rolls him up for two. Cage delivers a diving uppercut and goes for the Killswitch. Blade gets free, but Cage delivers a back elbow. Cage kicks Blade in the face, but Blade comes back and tosses him across the ring. Blade goes for a kick, but Cage dodges it. Blade connects with a power slam and goes for the cover, but Cage kicks out. Blade slams Cage to the mat and kicks him in the midsection. Blade tries to rip the turnbuckle pad off, but then grabs the brass knuckles. Cage delivers a Spear, instead, and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Christian Cage
Santana and Ortiz and Dax Harwood cut a promo about their match last week. They all say that it isn’t over and there will be another match between them when Cash Wheeler heals up.
Tony Schiavone interviews the AEW Women’s World Champion, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. Baker says it was in Jacksonville at Double or Nothing when she became the champion, but she is interrupted by Red Velvet. Schiavone asks what brings her to the ring. Velvet tells Baker that red is not her color, and she says she wants a little piece of D.M.D. Baker asks what Velvet thinks she has done to deserve it, and Velvet says she is 22-4 with seven straight wins. Baker says she is also a different wrestler, but Velvet can have her title match on the debut episode of AEW Rampage in Pittsburgh next Friday. Rebel tries to attack Velvet, but Velvet takes her down. Baker attacks Velvet and delivers a Curb Stomp. Baker grabs Rebel’s crutch and chokes Velvet with it before leaving.
Dasha Gonzalez is backstage with Andrade El Idolo and Chavo Guerrero. Guerrero says he has found someone who will work for Idolo, and brings in Fuego Del Sol. Guerrero says Idolo needs Fuego to shine his shoes, but Idolo attacks Fuego instead and slams him into a metal door a few times.
Adam Page is in the ring with Tony Schiavone, but they are interrupted by The Elite. Page says he is glad they are out here because there is something he has needed to say to them for a while. They all get into the ring and Kenny Omega says he sees what Page is trying to do. He says Page tried to make new friends and tried to take his title. Omega says Page is now trying to make a plea to get back into The Elite. Page says he is not, and Omega calls him a try hard. Omega says they thought about forgiving his sins and looking over his vices, but Page doesn’t fit the bill of The Elite anymore. Omega says The Elite doesn’t have losers and failure in their group, but Page decks him. The Elite beats him down and The Good Brothers drop him with the Magic Killer. Some of The Dark Order try to make the save, but Evil Uno and Stu Grayson hold them back. The Young Bucks deliver a series of BTE Triggers to Page, but Frankie Kazarian get into the ring for the save. The numbers take over and Kazarian is dropped to the floor. The Bucks hold Page up and Omega hits him with the AEW title belt.
Footage of Lance Archer laying out Dan Lambert a few weeks ago airs. Lambert says he will be back on AEW next week, and he is bringing backup.
Match #4 – AEW TNT Championship Match: Miro (c) vs. Lee Johnson (w/Dustin Rhodes)
Miro drops Johnson with a clothesline, and follows with a few right hands. Miro backs Johnson in the corner and drives his shoulder into his midsection a few times. Miro delivers another right hand, but Johnson comes back with a few kicks. Miro tosses him to the apron, but Johnson delivers a few enzuigiris. Johnson kicks Miro in the face and goes up top. Johnson goes for a cross-body, but Miro catches him and slams him to the mat. Miro goes for Game Over, but Johnson escapes to the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Miro has a bear hug applied, but Johnson delivers a few elbow strikes. Johnson delivers chops and Miro asks for more. Miro goes for a slam, but Johnson counters with a DDT. Miro pops right up, but drops to his knee. Johnson delivers right hands and a dropkick. Johnson kicks Miro’s feet out and dropkicks him to the floor. Johnson delivers a few dives to the floor and drives Miro into the barricade. Johnson gets Miro back into the ring and takes him down with a cross-body. Johnson goes for the cover, but Miro kicks out. Johnson delivers a short-arm clothesline and a few kicks. Miro comes back with a suplex, but Johnson lands on his feet and delivers a series of thrust kicks. Miro blocks the fifth and sends Johnson to the corner. Johnson dodges him and takes Miro to the mat. Johnson goes up top and hits a frog splash. Johnson goes for the cover, but Miro kicks out. Miro grabs Johnson’s throat, but Johnson delivers an enzuigiri. Johnson kicks Miro up, but Miro gets free and delivers a thrust kick. Miro stomps on Johnson’s back and locks in Game Over, and the referee calls for the bell.
Winner and still AEW TNT Champion: Miro
The announce team for the debut episode of Rampage is revealed to be Chris Jericho, Excalibur, Mark Henry, and Taz.
Tony Schiavone is backstage with Christian Cage. Schiavone announces that Cage is now the new number on contender. Cage says he offered to go to ringside with Leyla Hirsch, and then he sings the Golden Girls theme song. He says he’s joking around and says that she told him that she has Best Friends tonight. Cage says he came to AEW to take back what was taken from him seven years ago. He says he will be in Pittsburgh for Dynamite and Rampage next week and says he is elite.
Match #5 – NWA World Women’s Championship Eliminator Match: Leyla Hirsch (w/Chuck Taylor, Kris Statlander, Orange Cassidy, and Wheeler Yuta) vs. The Bunny (w/Angelico, Isiah Kassidy, Jack Evans, Jora Johl, Marq Quen, and The Blade)
Bunny shoves Hirsch, but Hirsch comes back with forearm shots. Hirsch takes Bunny down, but Bunny rolls to the floor. Hirsch takes Bunny out with a dive and gets her back into the ring. Hirsch slams Bunny into the ring post and goes for the cross arm-breaker. Bunny gets to her feet and backs Hirsch into the ropes. Bunny drops Hirsch with a Backstabber and tosses her to the floor. Bunny dropkicks Hirsch into the barricade and stares down the NWA World Women’s Champion, Kamille, who is at ringside. Bunny gets Hirsch back into the ring as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Hirsch suplexes Bunny from the top. They exchange shots on the mat and Bunny delivers a knee strike to the midsection. Hirsch comes back with a few German suplexes. Hirsch clubs Bunny in the corner and delivers double knees. Hirsch goes for the cover, but Bunny kicks out. Hirsch locks in the cross arm-breaker, but Bunny rolls her up for two. Hirsch trips up Bunny and delivers a knee strike. Hirsch goes for a moonsault press, but Bunny dodges it. Bunny slams Hirsch with a Death Valley Driver and goes for the cover, but Hirsch kicks out. Bunny goes for Down the Rabbit Hole, but Hirsch rolls through and locks in the cross arm-breaker. Bunny gets free, but Hirsch rolls through and locks it in again, and Bunny taps out.
Winner and number one contender for the NWA World Women’s Championship: Leyla Hirsch
-After the match, Kamille gets into the ring. She raises the title in the air as she and Hirsch exchange words.
Jade Cargill and Mark Sterling cut a promo. Sterling says they have been too busy to worry about Cargill wrestling. He mentions all the companies that have joined the Jade Brand, but they are back and she is ready to wrestle again. Sterling says Cargill will return to the ring this Monday on Elevation.

Match #6 – Singles Match: Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black
They lock up and neither man gains the advantage. Rhodes grabs Black’s leg, but Black backs him into the ropes. Black kicks Rhodes’ leg, but Rhodes comes back with an elbow strike. Black picks Rhodes’ ankle and goes into a knee-bar. Rhodes gets free and goes for the Figure Four. Black gouges Rhodes’ eyes and delivers body shots. Rhodes comes back with an enzuigiri. Black sweeps Rhodes’ leg and locks in a single-leg Boston Crab. Rhodes makes it to the ropes, but Black keeps the hold applies until the four count. Black charges, but Rhodes dodges and goes for Cross Rhodes. Black kicks Rhodes in the face, but Rhodes fights back and goes up top. Black runs over and kicks Rhodes in the face, and Rhodes crashes through the timekeeper’s table at ringside. Black sits down in the ring as Rhodes struggles to get to his feet on the outside. Rhodes gets into the ring at the nine count, but Black delivers a big spinning kick. Black stands on Rhodes’ chest and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Malakai Black
-After the match, Black leaves Rhodes lying in the ring and walks through the tunnel. The referee and doctor check on Rhodes as Tony Schiavone gets in the ring. The doctor leaves Rhodes a crutch as Schiavone asks him if he is okay. Rhodes says legacy is a funny thing and says he has had so much fun since he was fifteen years old. Rhodes gets to his feet with Schiavone’s help. He says he fired his old employers, they didn’t fire him, and then he met Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. He says people laughed at them, but now it is commonplace that AEW is the destination. Rhodes says they are competition and they have set the table. He says maybe some new people can eat. He says his face has been on the banner and he has carried it for three years. He says he will always be tethered to The Elite and says Jacksonville is the AEW Amphitheater, and says there is no better place. He says there is no better place and no better time than now to say this, and says everyone has made his life incredibly special. Rhodes goes to take off his boots, but Black runs back out and nails Rhodes with the crutch. Black stands tall over Rhodes as the show comes to a close.
