WWE drops the Murphy/Aalyah Mysterio romantic storyline

Feb 19, 2021 - by Steve Gerweck

WWE has dropped the romantic storyline between Murphy and Aalyah Mysterio on WWE SmackDown.

Aalyah has not appeared on WWE TV since the December 4 SmackDown episode, when Murphy lost to King Baron Corbin in singles action . The angle was just abruptly dropped out of nowhere.

There is no backstory or behind-the-scenes story as to why the Aalyah – Murphy storyline was dropped, but WWE has done away with it. It’s possible that creative had no real idea where to take the storyline next.

The reason is in the article. Creative had no idea. Main issue with WWE is that creative has no clue on how to wrap up any storyline.

@DJ – Agreed. It was drawing them big numbers on YouTube too but it seems like ever since Seth left, the Mysterios & Murphy have been lost. Shame as I thought Murphy turning on Seth would lead to big things but nope, just back to catering.

I wasn’t too fond of the storyline, so the fact that its over doesn’t bother me, besides the fact that its something else WWE couldnt commit to, which is what really bothers me.

  4. What? says:

Or maybe it just was deemed too creepy even though Aalyah is (barely) of legal age. It’s another eye-rolling example of WWE booking, but in this case I’m not sad to see it quietly disappear except for the detrimental effect on Murphy.
