1/13/21 AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash Night 2 Recap

The video package for the feud between Eddie Kingston and PAC airs.

Match #1 – Singles Match: Eddie Kingston (w/The Butcher, The Blade, and The Bunny) vs. PAC (w/The Lucha Brothers)
PAC sends Kingston to the floor and takes him out with a dive. PAC slams Kingston into the barricade and tosses him back into the ring. PAC kicks Kingston in the face and delivers a missile dropkick. PAC knees Kingston in the face and delivers a shot in the corner. Kingston fights back and delivers a knee drop to the back of PAC’s head. PAC rolls to the floor, but The Bunny digs her fingers into PAC’s face. Kingston goes to the floor and suplexes PAC. Kingston rolls PAC back into the ring and suplexes him again. Kingston goes for the cover, but PAC kicks out. Kingston wrenches PAC’s neck and sends him to the corner. Kingston delivers a few chops and knocks PAC to the mat with a right hand. Kingston chokes PAC over the ropes, but PAC comes back and they exchange shots. PAC delivers elbows and kicks, and connects with a suplex. Kingston comes back and they exchange shots again. Kingston drops PAC with a back-drop driver and chops PAC in the corner. PAC turns it around and takes Kingston down with a superplex. PAC goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out.
PAC delivers a back elbow in the corner, but Kingston comes back with a clothesline. Kingston goes for the cover, but PAC kicks out. PAC comes back with a basement dropkick and goes up top. PAC hits the Black Arrow and gets the pin fall.
Winner: PAC
-After the match, PAC locks Kingston in the Brutalizer, but The Butcher and The Blade get in the ring. The Lucha Brothers do as well, and then Lance Archer and Jake Roberts come to the ring. PAC and Archer begin to argue after Kingston and his group leave the ring.

Match #2 – Singles Match; if Taylor loses, he must become Miro’s Butler: Chuck Taylor (w/Orange Cassidy) vs. Miro (W/Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford)
Taylor backs Miro into the corner and delivers punches and kicks. Taylor clotheslines Miro to the floor and slams him into the stage wall. Taylor rolls Miro back into the ring, but Miro goes back to the floor. Taylor takes Miro out with a dive and slams him into the barricade. Miro shoves Taylor into the ring post and charges, but Taylor moves and Miro hits the post. Taylor delivers a diving foot stomp on the floor and rolls Miro back into the ring. Sabian drops Cassidy on the floor, and then Taylor knocks Sabian to the floor. Taylor comes off the ropes, but Miro catches him and slams him to the mat. Miro delivers a shoulder tackle in the corner and follows with body shots. Miro throws Taylor across the ring and smashes him in the corner. Miro delivers a leg lariat and kicks Taylor in the face. Miro locks in Game Over and Taylor taps out.
Winner: Miro
-After the match, Miro drags Taylor away from the ring as Cassidy looks on.

Dasha Gonzalez is backstage with Matt Hardy and Private Party. Hardy says he speaks first and says everything is great. Private Party says signing with Hardy was the biggest moment of their careers, but they are angry about Hardy getting 30% of their money. He says they didn’t read the fine print and that is a tough lesson. They call him a money-grabbing carny, and he says no one cares about them except for him. He tells them they will jump when he says to jump, and tells them to leave.

The Inner Circle comes to the ring to deliver their New Year’s resolutions. Jake Hager says, “Championships! Yeah!” MJF says he wants to build his bonds with the people in the ring and wants to get rid of fat people. Ortiz says he wants to perfect one of his grandmother’s recipes. Chris Jericho says he is going to be in a great tag team. Santana gets offended, but Sammy Guevara calls Jericho a tag team slut. Guevara says Jericho has been in a team with MJF, Hager, and Guevara, and wonders if Snoop Dogg is next. MJF speaks up, but Guevara tells him to shut up. Jericho says any of them could team with another and win the tag team titles. Jericho says just like Wardlow and Hager did, they need to get rid of some animosity. Jericho proposes a three-way match to determine the official tag team of The Inner Circle. Jericho pairs up with MJF, Santana and Ortiz stay together, and Guevara and Hager partner up. MJF says nothing can break them up, because they are better than you, and you know it.

Alex Marvez is backstage with Dark Order. Evil Uno says two weeks ago was very important to the Dark Order. Uno says next week, Adam Page will team with the Dark Order and they begin interviewing Page. Reynolds asks when he is going to let them know if he is going to join the group. He says he will let them know next week after the match.

The video package for the feud between Brian Cage and Darby Allin airs.

Kenny Omega, Don Callis, and The Young Bucks are backstage. The Bucks are ready to enter, but Callis tells Omega to let them have their own entrance because they deserve it.

Before the match, Callis says he wants to introduce Omega’s partners, and introduces The Good Brothers instead of The Young Bucks.

Match #3 – Six-Man Tag Team Match: The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson)) (w/Don Callis) vs. The Varsity Blondes (Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison) and Danny Limelight
Omega and The Good Brothers attack Pillman, Garrison, and Limelight from the beginning, and Omega is left in the ring with Limelight. Limelight kicks Omega in the head and takes him down with an arm drag. Limelight delivers a dropkick, but Gallows drops him with a clothesline. Pillman and Garrison send Gallows to the floor and Pillman tags in. Pillman delivers a chop and tags in Garrison. Garrison comes off the ropes with a double sledge and Pillman tags back in. Pillman delivers a shot and Limelight tags back in. Omega fights back with shots and Gallows kicks Limelight in the back. Omega drops Limelight with a crusher and tags in Anderson. Anderson delivers shots to Limelight and knocks Garrison to the floor. Anderson tosses Limelight in the corner as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Omega is in control of Limelight. Omega gets Limelight up top, but Limelight comes back with a hurricanrana. Limelight delivers an enzuigiri and tags in Garrison. Anderson tags in, but The Varsity Blondes deliver a double flipping neck-breaker to him. Garrison goes for the cover, but Anderson kicks out. Omega knocks Pillman to the floor and Omega and the Good Brothers triple-team Garrison. They drop him with a triple neck-breaker and Anderson goes for the cover, but Limelight and Pillman break it up. Anderson delivers a kick to the face and goes for the cover, but Garrison kicks out. Limelight tags in and delivers shots to Anderson. Limelight comes off the ropes, but Anderson drops him with a spine buster. The Good Brothers deliver the Magic Killer to Limelight and Anderson gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Elite
-After the match, Jon Moxley appears. He gets into the ring and goes after Omega. The Good Brothers attack him and they triple-team him with Omega. The Lucha Brothers come out to even the odds. The Lucha Brothers take the Good Brothers to the outside as Omega and Moxley fight in the ring. The locker room empties to separate them. The Young Bucks hit the ring and get in Moxley’s face. They argue a bit and The Lucha Brothers lay out The Bucks with superkicks. The Good Brothers come back and fight with The Lucha Brothers as Omega and Callis escape up the tunnel.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. hosts an edition of “The Waiting Room” with Cody Rhodes as the guest. Before Rhodes can talk, Baker interrupts and says she forgot that she has another guest. She introduces Jade Cargill. Cargill says no one cares that Brandi Rhodes is pregnant and says Cody did her a huge favor by making sure she isn’t around. Cargill says she and Shaq are tired of waiting and wants her opponent. She says she will beat Brandi’s ass if she returns. She slaps Cody across the face, and Red Velvet walks in. Cargill shoves Velvet, and then they exchange slaps. They begin to brawl, and the crowd of wrestlers rushes in to separate them. Baker then plays footage of her attacking Thunder Rosa a few weeks back. Rosa interrupts via video. Rosa says Baker likes to get into people’s business, but soon she will have to wrestler Rosa. Rosa says they will face off on a big stage on February 3rd at Beach Break. Baker freaks out and says she was told she didn’t have to do it. The graphic shows up on the screen, and Baker ends her show.

Match #4 – Tag Team Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (w/Tully Blanchard) vs. Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt) (w/Luchasaurus)
Stunt and Wheeler start the match. Wheeler backs Stunt into the corner and Harwood tags in. Jungle Boy gets in the ring and all four stand at a stalemate. Harwood backs Stunt into the corner, but Stunt slaps him across the face. Harwood fires off shots and beats Stunt down. Harwood suplexes Stunt and tags in Wheeler. Wheeler sends Stunt to the corner and delivers an uppercut. Stunt comes back with a dropkick and tags in Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy and Stunt take control of the match and seen Wheeler and Harwood to the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Wheeler drops Stunt with a spine-buster. Wheeler slams Stunt into the corner and tags in Harwood. Harwood drops an elbow and goes for the cover, but Stunt kicks out. Harwood stomps on Stunt and tags Wheeler back in. Wheeler applies a standing submission, but Stunt gets free and gets a roll-up for two. Harwood tags in, but Stunt gets free and tags in Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy delivers shots to Harwood and dropkicks Wheeler to the floor. Jungle Boy drops Harwood and Wheeler with clotheslines and plants Harwood with a Backstabber. Jungle Boy goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Jungle Boy chops Harwood and drops him with a hurricanrana. Jungle Boy goes for the cover, but Wheeler breaks it up. Jungle Boy drops Wheeler with a brain buster, but Harwood rolls him up for two. Stunt tags in and drops on Harwood with an assisted senton. Stunt goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Harwood throws Stunt across the ring and delivers an elbow shot. Harwood beats Stunt in the corner, but Stunt delivers a low blow behind the referee’s back.
Stunt delivers Sliced Bread and goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Stunt smacks Harwood in the face, but Blanchard grabs Stunt and shoves him into the ring post. Wheeler slams Jungle Boy into the barricade and FTR drop Stunt with the Big Rig and Wheeler gets the pin fall.
Winners: FTR

Match #5 – NWA World Women’s Championship Match: Serena Deeb (c) vs. Tay Conti (w/Anna Jay)
They lock up and Deeb drops Conti to the mat. Deeb gets a two count on a quick roll-up, and Conti comes back with an arm-bar. Deeb gets free and drops Conti with a side-headlock take down. Conti comes back with a shoulder throw and goes for a triangle sleeper. Deeb delivers right hands and goes for the cover, but Conti kicks out. They exchange roll ups, and then Conti delivers a pump kick. Conti sends Deeb to the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Conti drops Deeb with a full-Nelson slam. Conti goes for the cover, but Deeb kicks out. Deeb comes back with a Stretch Muffler, but Conti makes it to the ropes. Conti comes back with a roll-up for two, but Deeb delivers a rib-breaker. Deeb goes for the cover, but Conti kicks out. Deeb puts Conti up top and takes her back down to the mat. Deeb hits the Detox and gets the pin fall.

Match #6 – AEW TNT Championship Match: Darby Allin (c) vs. Brian Cage (w/Hook and Ricky Starks)
Allin comes out quick and sends Cage to the floor. Allin takes Cage out with a dive and goes for another one, but Cage catches him and slams him down. Cage dominates Allin for a bit and throws him through a table at ringside. Allin has been busted open, and then Cage slams him back into the ring. Cage slams Allin again and delivers an uppercut in the corner. Cage suplexes Allin across the ring, and then throws him into the corner. Cage continues the beat down as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Cage slams Allin to the mat and goes for the cover, but Allin kicks out. Cage delivers a series of power bombs, and then throws Allin onto the stage. Cage brings Allin back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Allin kicks out again. Cage grabs the steps and drags them middle ringside. Cage picks Allin up, but Allin fights back with elbows. Cage holds onto the ropes, but Allin bites his fingers and Cage falls onto the steps. Allin connects with the Coffin Drop on the steps and both men are on the floor. They roll back in at nine, and Allin wraps his belt around Cage’s ankles after a Stunner. Cage throws Allin away and unhooks the belt. Allin hits Code Red and goes for the cover, but Cage kicks out. Allin dropkicks Cage into the corner and goes for the cover, but Allin shoves him away. Allin lands on the ropes and delivers a double stomp. Allin goes back up top, but Starks pulls him down. The lights go out, then come back on, and Sting hits Starks with the baseball bat. Cage grabs ALlin up top, but Allin counters with the Crucifix Bomb and gets the pin fall.
Winner and still AEW TNT Champion: Darby Allin
-After the match, Team Taz regroup on the stage and Sting and Allin are in the ring. Sting stares down Team Taz as the show comes to a close.
