10/28/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

The opening credits roll. Dasha is backstage with MJF and Wardlow. She asks Wardlow about the potential of becoming the AEW World Champion, but MJF interrupts and says if Wardlow wins the tournament then he becomes the champion because Wardlow is under contract to him. Sammy Guevara interrupts and says he is going to make sure that MJF does not join the Inner Circle. MJF sends Wardlow away and insults Guevara. Guevara says there are a number of things that he is going to do about MJF.

Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Taz are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida.

Match #1 – #1 Contender’s (AEW World Championship) Eliminator Tournament – Semifinal Match: Adam Page vs. Wardlow
Page sends Wardlow to the corner and delivers a series of shots. Wardlow comes back with a few shots of his own, and then drives his shoulder into Page’s midsection. Wardlow clotheslines Page in the corner and then goes for a splash, but Page dodges it. Page sends Wardlow to the floor and goes for a dive, but Wardlow catches him. Page counters and slams Wardlow into the ring post, but Wardlow comes back and spears Page through the barricade. Wardlow gets Page back into the ring and keeps control of the match. Wardlow slams Page to the mat, but Page tries to fight back. Wardlow sends Page to the corner and drives his shoulder into his midsection. Wardlow drops Page with a gut-wrench power bomb and goes for the cover, but Page kicks out. Wardlow sets Page up top and goes for the knee strike, but Page counters and applies an arm-breaker in the ropes. Wardlow comes back and suplexes Page back into the ring. Wardlow goes up top and goes for a senton, but Page dodges it. Page delivers a few forearm shots, and then clotheslines Wardlow to the floor. Page connects with a moonsault on the floor and rolls Wardlow back into the ring.
Page connects with a running Shooting Star Press and goes for the cover, but Wardlow kicks out. Page goes for the Buckshot Lariat, but Wardlow dodges and drops Page with a clothesline. Wardlow goes for the cover, but Page kicks out. Wardlow delivers the F-10, and Page goes to the floor. Wardlow pulls Page to the top, but Page comes back with elbow shots. Page drops Wardlow with a fall-away slam from the top rope. Page delivers two Buckshot Lariats and gets the pin fall.

Jon Moxley cuts a promo. He says his match against Eddie Kingston at Full Gear is personal. He says there is no room for this Kingston in AEW and Kingston will have to say, “I Quit.” He says he is going to do to Kingston what he has done to everyone else: crush his ego.

Eddie Kingston cuts a promo. He asks how dare they go to commercial before his match and how dare the World Champion not be here tonight. He says he is going to beat Moxley badly at Full Gear and will make him say, “I Quit.”

Match #2 – Singles Match: Eddie Kingston (w/The Butcher, The Blade, and The Bunny) vs. Matt Sydal
They lock up and Kingston backs Sydal into the corner. Sydal comes back with a chop and they lock up again. Sydal takes Kingston down with an arm drag and goes for an arm-bar, but Kingston gets to his feet. Kingston delivers a few elbow shots, but Sydal trips him up and rolls him up for two. Sydal sends Kingston to the corner and connects with a corner dropkick. Sydal goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out. Sydal kicks Kingston in the hamstring a few times, but Kingston comes back and slams Sydal to the mat. Kingston connects with an elbow drop and chokes Sydal over the rope as the show goes to a commercial.
Back from the break, Sydal comes back and takes Kingston down with a diving knee drop. Sydal goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out. Sydal rolls Kingston up for two, and then gets a crucifix pin for two. Kingston comes back with a knee lift and then clubs him in the back of the head. Kingston locks in the Bulldog Choke and Sydal taps out.
Winner: Eddie Kingston
-After the match, Kingston makes Sydal say “I Quit.”

Excalibur interviews FTR and The Young Bucks. Matt Jackson says his ankle is fine, and this match has been brewing for years. He says he will be at Full Gear. Dax Harwood says he is not afraid of the Internet backlash, but he is not worried about dream matches. He says above dream matches is being the AEW World Tag Team Champions. He says whoever wins the match at Full Gear cements their legacy as the greatest tag team in the world. Matt says they like to think of themselves as good people, and sometimes good people do bad things. He says they are not proud of what has happened, but they are not sorry about it. He blames FTR for their actions, and FTR leave the interview. Nick says they have more to lose than FTR and Matt says there is a new stipulation for the match. Matt says if they do not win the titles at Full Gear, they will never challenge for them again.

The Inner Circle come to the ring for the Town Hall Meeting to decide if MJF can join the group. Dasha and Schiavone are the hosts for the meeting. MJF joins them in the ring. Luchasaurus asks a question to MJF. He asks how MJF can ensure the financial success of The Inner Circle. MJF shows a slide on the screen showing The Inner Circle is doing okay business, but they will skyrocket with him. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and Reba ask Jericho how he feels about MJF’s terrible run with friendships in AEW. Jericho says he knows about it, but he isn’t a dipshit like Cody. Jericho says if MJF tries to turn on them, they will knock his teeth down his throat. MJF says if they are together, they will get a lot of green and gold. Peter Avalon asks if he can join The Inner Circle, and they just laugh and Jericho says no chance. Eric Bischoff asks a three-part question. He asks MJF what he can do for The Inner Circle. MJF says friendship. Bischoff then asks MJF what The Inner Circle can do for him. MJF says there is one dent in his armor, and that is he is not the best team player. He says if he joins The Inner Circle, he can learn how to be. Bischoff then calls Jericho a premadonna, but Jericho interrupts. Schiavone tells Jericho to shut up and Bischoff continues. Bischoff says MJF has those same qualities, and asks what happens if MJF and Jericho just kill each other. MJF gets angry and Jericho tells him to answer the question. MJF tells Jericho he has checked all the boxes and given him presents and the greatest segment of his career. MJF asks Jericho what he hasn’t done, and Jericho says he hasn’t beaten him. Jericho says he is going to give MJF that chance at Full Gear. Jericho says if MJF can beat him, then he can join The Inner Circle. MJF says he will do anything to win, but Ortiz interrupts. Ortiz says next week, he will team up with Sammy Guevara and take on MJF and Wardlow.

Team Taz have a pre-recorded promo. Taz talks about Will Hobbs. He compliments Hobbs and says he fits into their world. He tells Hobbs the clock is ticking and needs to make a decision soon.

Match #3 – AEW TNT Championship – Lumberjack Match: Cody (c) vs. Orange Cassidy
Cassidy goes for the Orange Punch, but Cody dodges and goes for Cross Rhodes. Orange gets free and drops Cody with a side-headlock take down. Cody backs Cassidy into the corner and takes him down to the mat. Cassidy comes back and sends Cody into the corner. Evil Uno grabs Cody’s foot and Cassidy takes advantage. Cassidy delivers a shot, but Cody comes back and slams Cassidy to the mat. Cody goes for the cover, but Cassidy kicks out. Cody wrenches Cassidy’s arm, but Cassidy counters with a vertical suplex. Cody rolls to the outside and the lumberjacks send him back in as Cassidy rolls out. The lumberjacks go after Cassidy, but Best Friends block them and hug Cassidy before he gets back into the ring. Cassidy sends Cody to the apron and then knocks him into Best Friends. They catch him and then drop him on the floor. Cody gets back into the ring, but Cassidy delivers a dropkick. Trent delivers a shot to Cody and Cassidy goes up top. Cody comes back, but Cassidy drops him with a swinging DDT. Cassidy goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out. Cassidy comes off the top, but Cody gets his knees up. They roll to the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, the lumberjacks are brawling on the outside. Cassidy goes up top, but Cody cuts him off. Cody superplexes Cassidy onto all of the lumberjacks. Cody gets Cassidy back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Cassidy kicks out. Cody delivers the Cody Cutter and goes for the cover, but Cassidy kicks out. Cassidy comes back with a shot, but Cody drops him with a clothesline. Cassidy comes back with Stundog Millionaire and connects with a diving DDT. Cassidy delivers the Beach Break and goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out. Some of the lumberjacks get into the ring as Arn Anderson delivers a shot to Cassidy. Cody drops Cassidy to the mat and gets the pin fall.
Winner and still AEW TNT Champion: Cody
-After the match, all of the lumberjacks get into the ring and brawl. Darby Allin looks on from afar as he will challenge Cody for the title at Full Gear.

Match #4 – NWA World Women’s Championship Match: Serena Deeb (c) vs. Leyla Hirsch
They lock up, but neither gains the advantage. Deeb against a waist-lock, but Hirsch turns it into a front face-lock. Deeb counters and drops Hirsch with an arm drag. Deeb gets a roll-up for two, and then they stand at a stalemate. Deeb takes Hirsch down with a side headlock take down and keeps the hold applied on the mat. Hirsch gets free, but Deeb drops her with a shoulder tackle. Hirsch comes back with a shot to the chest and then drops Deeb in the corner. Hirsch delivers double knees in the corner and connects with a corner dropkick. Hirsch goes for the cover, but Deeb kicks out. Deeb comes back and delivers a neck-breaker in the ropes. Deeb goes for the cover, but Hirsch kicks out. Hirsch delivers a series of kicks and goes for an arm-breaker, but Deeb counters with a roll-up for two. Hirsch delivers an arm-breaker over her knee and sends Deeb into the ropes as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, they exchange shots in the ring. Hirsch delivers a knee strike to Deeb’s face, and then drops her with a German suplex. Hirsch goes up top for a moonsault, but Deeb dodges it. Deeb drops her with a swinging neck-breaker and then locks in a modified Boston Crab submission and Hirsch taps out.

Alex Marves is backstage with Hikaru Shida. Shida tells Nyla Rose that if Rose wants a match with her, then Shida wants a match with her at Full Gear.

Match #5 – Singles Match: Shawn Spears (w/Tully Blanchard) vs. VSK
Spears picks VSK up and drops him with C-4 immediately and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Shawn Spears
-After the match, someone is throwing candy in the ring and hitting Spears and Blanchard with it. Spears brings the person in the ring and gets the steel slug for his glove. Scorpio Sky takes off the mask and drops Spears with a TKO as he turns around.

Announced for next week:

Chris Jericho returns to commentary, MJF and Wardlow vs. Ortiz and Sammy Guevara, Miro vs. Trent, Scorpio Sky vs. Shawn Spears, Cody and The Gunn Club vs. Colt Cabana, John Silver, and Preston Vance, and Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley will be face-to-face.

Match #6 – #1 Contender’s (AEW World Championship) Eliminator Tournament – Semifinal Match: Kenny Omega vs. Penta El Zero M (w/Rey Fenix)
Omega applies a side headlock, but Penta gets free. Penta shoves Omega away and Omega reveals he is wearing the AAA Mega Championship. He lays it down in the ring and they exchange chops. Omega beats Penta to the mat and then sends him to the corner. Penta comes back and sends Omega to the other corner, but Omega kicks him in the face. Penta comes back with a few kicks to Omega’s hamstrings, and then drops him with a Backstabber. Penta takes Omega down with a dive on the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Omega delivers shots in the ring. Omega drops Penta with a hurricanrana, and then takes him out with a dive on the floor. Omega rolls Penta back into the ring, but Penta kicks him in the head. Penta takes Omega out with a cross-body on the floor and gets him back into the ring. Penta kicks Omega in the face and delivers a Slingblade. Penta goes for the cover, but Omega kicks out. Penta hangs Omega in the corner and delivers a double stomp. Penta goes for the cover, but Omega kicks out. Omega comes back and slams Penta to the mat with a Snap Dragon Suplex. Omega delivers another one and goes for a third. Penta dodges, but Omega hits a knee strike. Omega delivers a power bomb and another knee strike and goes for the cover, but Penta kicks out. Omega delivers the V Trigger and goes for the One Winged Angel, but Penta gets free and delivers a back elbow. Omega comes back with another V Trigger and sets Penta up top. Penta counters with a back elbow strike, but Omega delivers a few chops. Penta headbutts Omega to the entrance ramp and then takes Omega down with a Destroyer on the ramp.
Penta gets Omega back into the ring and drops him with the package pile-driver. Penta goes for the cover, but Omega kicks out. Penta delivers clubbing shots to Omega’s back, but Omega comes back and takes Penta down. Penta comes back with an enzuigiri and comes off the ropes, but Omega counters with a knee strike. Omega goes for the One Winged Angel, but Penta counters and delivers an arm-breaker. Omega comes back with an elbow strike, and follows with a few chops. Penta kicks Omega in the face and comes off the ropes, but Omega meets him with a knee strike. Omega delivers the One Winged Angel and gets the pin fall.
