Jericho Says McMahon Told Him “Nobody Cares About The F**king Intercontinental Title”

Chris Jericho shared a story about the road to WrestleMania 29 with Inside The Ropes, and he noted that originally he wanted to face Ryback at the big event. However, the writers told Jericho that Vince McMahon wanted to talk to him about WrestleMania plans.

McMahon pitched a match with Fandango, and Jericho made it clear he wasn’t happy about it. Jericho then pitched an IC Title match with Wade Barrett, and Vince turned his idea down.

‘’What about Wade Barrett? I’m a nine-time Intercontinental Champion. I could go for my tenth victory, the record-breaking tenth Intercontinental Championship.’ Jericho asked McMahon.

Vince McMahon goes, ‘Oh nobody cares about the f*cking Intercontinental Championship,’ and I said, ‘Well they don’t care about Fandango either,’ and he goes, ‘That’s your job is to make them care’ and I said, ‘So I can’t change your mind?’ He goes, ‘No’ so I hung up on him. I hung up on my billionaire boss because I wasn’t happy with what he wanted me to do, prima donna Jericho in the hiz.”

And to this day … no one cares about the Intercontinental title. We can at least give Jericho props, however, for getting Fandango over for a minute.

I miss the days when the IC belt did matter, and there was a clear divide between world heavyweight contenders and IC contenders. And it used to be so “magical” when you’d see an IC contender make that jump to the world division, like they’ve finally graduated to the main stage. Warrior, Bret, Michaels, Austin, Rock, Jericho, Benoit, Eddie, etc… Now it’s just a holdover belt for former world title champs to have while they’re not the world champion anymore =/ stupid Vince…
