9/16/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

The opening credits roll. Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida.

Before the first match, The Young Bucks come to the ring and deliver a double superkick to referee Mike Posey. They walk backstage and throw money at Tony Khan, and then exchange some words with FTR.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (w/Tully Blanchard) vs. Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) (w/Marko Stunt)
Harwood and Jungle Boy start the match, but FTR quickly begin making quick tags while keeping control of the match. Jungle Boy comes back and takes Harwood down with an arm drag, and then delivers a dropkick. Jungle Boy drops Wheeler to the floor, and then takes Harwood down with another arm drag. Luchasaurus tags in, as does Wheeler. Wheeler goes after Jungle Boy as Harwood gets a cheap shot on Luchasaurus. FTR double team Luchasaurus, but he comes back with clotheslines and then slams Harwood to the mat. Luchasaurus goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Jungle Boy tags in as Luchasaurus slams Harwood to the mat. Jungle Boy connects with a senton and goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Harwood comes back with an elbow shot and tags in Wheeler. Jungle Boy drops TFTR with a double hurricanrana, but Wheeler comes back with a power slam. Harwood goes for the cover, but Jungle Boy kicks out. Wheeler locks in a bow-and-arrow submission and tags in Harwood. Harwood drops Jungle Boy with a snap suplex and goes for the cover, but Jungle Boy kicks out. Wheeler tags back in, and Harwood drops Jungle Boy over Wheeler’s knee. Wheeler goes for the cover, but Jungle Boy kicks out.
Wheeler applies an abdominal stretch and tags in Harwood. Harwood slams Jungle Boy to the mat and goes for the cover, but Jungle Boy kicks out. Wheeler goes for a dropkick, but Jungle Boy dodges it. Harwood tags in, but Jungle Boy drops him with a clothesline. Wheeler tags back in, but Jungle Boy makes it to the Luchasaurus this time. Luchasaurus takes out FTR with kicks and clotheslines. Luchasaurus throws Wheeler onto Harwood and then drops Wheeler with a choke slam. Luchasaurus connects with the standing moonsault and goes for the cover, but Wheeler kicks out. Luchasaurus goes for a back elbow, but Wheeler dodges it and tags in Harwood. Jungle Boy tags in as Luchasaurus takes FTR down with kicks. Luchasaurus drops Harwood with another kick, and Jungle Boy delivers a knee strike. Jungle Boy goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Harwood comes back and drops Jungle Boy with an Olympic Slam. Wheeler tags in and goes for a slam, but Jungle Boy rolls through and gets a two count. Jungle Boy delivers a knee strike, but Harwood tags in. Jungle Boy rolls up Harwood a few times, but Harwood kicks out at two each time. Jungle Boy kicks Harwood in the head and drops him with a cross-body. Harwood rolls through for a two count, but Jungle Boy gets a two count as well.
Wheeler and Luchasaurus get into the ring, but Harwood sends Luchasaurus to the floor. Jungle Boy rolls Harwood up, but Harwood kicks out at two. They exchange shots in the ring and Jungle Boy gets another roll up for two. Luchasaurus tries to take Wheeler out with a dive on the floor, but Wheeler dodges it and Luchasaurus flies into the crowd. Jungle Boy drops Wheeler with a dive and rolls Harwood up. Wheeler pulls Harwood over for the cover and holds onto his hand to get the pin fall on Jungle Boy.
Winners: FTR

The announcers run down the rest of the card, and then head backstage. Matt Hardy is down on the ground. Private Party say they were going over a strategy for their match, and then they saw Hardy on the ground. Chris Jericho and Jake Hager walk up and Jericho says he guesses Hardy isn’t so lucky this week.

Kenny Omega has joined the announce team for the next match.

Match #2 – Singles Match: Adam Page vs. Frankie Kazarian
Page backs Kazarian into the corner, but they have a clean break. Kazarian drops Page to the mat and applies a front face-lock. Page gets free, but Kazarian rolls him up for two. Kazarian drops Page with a drop toe hold and applies a neck vice. Kazarian delivers a few knee strikes and turns it into a side headlock. Kazarian delivers another knee and comes off the ropes, but Page drops him with a shoulder tackle. Page slams Kazarian to the mat and then delivers a few chops. Kazarian turns it around and delivers some chops of his own. They exchange shots, and then Page sends Kazarian to the apron. Page drops Kazarian with a clothesline, and then takes him out with a dive on the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Kazarian has a front face-lock applied, but Page punches his way free. They exchange shots and knee strikes. They hit simultaneous clotheslines, and then Kazarian goes for a suplex. Page lands on his feet, but Kazarian takes him out with a knee strike. Page comes back with a strike of his own, and both men are down. Kazarian connects with another knee strike and comes off the ropes, but Page catches him and drops him with a fall-away slam. Page connects with the running Shooting Star Press and goes for the cover, but Kazarian kicks out. Kazarian comes back with a few shots and drops Page with a DDT. Kazarian goes for the cover, but Page kicks out. They exchange backslides, and then Kazarian slams Page to the mat. Kazarian goes for the cover, but Page kicks out. Page comes back with a sliding clothesline and then drops him with a Death Valley Driver. Page goes for the cover, but Kazarian kicks out. Kazarian comes back and drops Page with a slingshot cutter and goes for the cover, but Page kicks out. Kazarian slams Page to the mat again and goes up top, but Page cuts him off. Page power bombs Kazarian and goes for the cover, but Kazarian kicks out.
Page goes for the Buckshot Lariat, but Kazarian slides under the ropes and delivers a right hand to Page. They go to the floor, but Page delivers a clothesline against the barricade. Page gets Kazarian back into the ring, but Kazarian cuts him off with a right hand. Page comes back with a kick and then hits the Buckshot Lariat and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Adam Page

The video package for the feud between Best Friends and Santana and Ortiz airs. They will meet in a Parking Lot Fight in tonight’s main event.

Match #3 – Singles Match: MJF (w/Wardlow) vs. Sawn Dean
MJF shakes hands with Dean before the match. He quickly delivers a shot as the bell rings, and then pokes Dean in the eye. MJF locks in the Salt of the Earth and Dean taps out.
Winner: MJF
-After the match, MJF cuts a promo. He says if there is one thing they can all agree on, it’s that MJF is an honest man. He says he doesn’t like dishonesty. He says Dictator Jon cheated at All Out. He says he should still be undefeated and should be the AEW World Champion. He says from here on out, he is to be referred to as MJF, the undefeated, undisputed, uncrowned AEW World Champion. He makes Justin Roberts introduce him as such, and says it has become clear that he is never going to get a fair shake. He says to get a fair shot, you have to be a part of a new group or stable. He says there is a new group of stable every week, but he has always been a lone wolf. He says maybe it is time that he joins a wolf pack. He says if he decides to be in a group or not, it doesn’t matter, because he is better than you, and you know it.

A new edition of Technique by Taz airs, and this week he focuses on Ricky Starks’ Rochambeau Spear.

Eddie Kingston, The Lucha Brothers, and The Butcher and The Blade are in the ring. Butcher and Blade leave and stand on the outside as Kingston cuts a promo. He says he has three points: he never lost the Casino Battle Royale, they are a family, but not a normal family, but a family of violence. He tells Butcher and Blade to find some victims. Butcher and Blade attack a couple of guys and throw them into the ring. Butcher, Blade, and The Lucha Brothers beat them all down. He says they are all ready now, and his third point is that it is time for Blade to get his house in order.

Match #4 – Tag Team Match: Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) vs. The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho and Jake Hager)
Private Party take control early on and drop Jericho and Hager with dives on the floor. Kassidy and Hager get back into the ring, and Kassidy connects with a senton. Kassidy goes for the cover, but Hager kicks out. Quen tags in, and Private Party double suplex Hager to the mat. Quen goes for the cover, but Hager kicks out. Hager kicks Quen in the face and tags in Jericho. Jericho takes Quen down and delivers a series of right hands. Jericho keeps control of Quen and takes him to the mat. Hager tags back in and connects with shots to Quen. Quen comes back with a boot to the face, and then delivera a dropkick. Jericho and Kassidy tag in, and Kassidy comes down with a dive. Kassidy dropkicks Hager to the floor and takes Jericho down with a springboard moonsault. Kassidy goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Kassidy goes to the apron and takes Jericho down with another shot, but Hager drops Kassidy with a shot on the apron. Jericho sends Kassidy to the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Hager is in control of Kassidy. He delivers a few shots and applies a headlock. Hager throws Kassidy to the mat and knocks Quen to the floor. Private Party come back and drop Hager with the Silly String. Jericho and Quen tag in and Quen delivers a few clotheslines, and finally a dropkick. Quen knocks Hager to the floor with a dropkick, and then takes Hager out with a dive to the floor. Quen takes Jericho down with a cross-body and goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Kassidy tags in and Private Party double team Jericho. They drop Jericho with a neck-breaker/double stomp combo and Kassidy goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Hager comes back in, but Quen clotheslines him to the floor as Kassidy drops Jericho with a hurricanrana. Kassidy goes for the cover, but Jericho kicks out. Jericho comes back and goes for the Judas Effect, but Kassidy dodges it and rolls Jericho up for two. Kassidy drops Jericho with a cutter and goes up top. Kassidy goes for a senton, but Jericho dodges it and hits the Judas Effect for the pin fall.
Winners: The Inner Circle
-After the match, Jericho continues the attack on Kassidy. He delivers a few right hands and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Quen takes Jericho down with a Pele Kick, and then Hager pulls Jericho out of the ring.

On next week’s Dynamite, a Six-Man Tag Team Match will take place. Jon Moxley and two partners will take on Lance Archer and two partners. Moxley will defend the AEW World Championship against Archer on October 14th.

Match #5 – NWA World Women’s Championship Match: Thunder Rosa (c) vs. Ivelisse (w/Diamante)
Rosa goes for quick strikes, but Ivelisse shoves her away. They exchange arm drags and then neither woman gains an advantage. They exchange slaps and Rosa takes Ivelisse down with an arm-drag and then an hurricanrana. Ivelisse comes back with a few shots and then kicks Rosa in the face. Ivelisse drops Rosa with a hurricanrana, but Rosa comes back and drops Ivelisse into the corner. Rosa delivers a few shots and goes for the cover, but Ivelisse kicks out. Rosa goes for a back-slide, but Ivelisse counters and delivers a knee strike. Ivelisse goes for the cover, but Rosa kicks out. Rosa goes for the floor, but Ivelisse kicks her in the head as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Ivelisse is in control in the ring. She delivers a few kicks to Rosa, but Rosa blocks the last one and takes Ivelisse down with a leg whip. Rosa takes Ivelisse to the corner and delivers knee strikes. Rosa delivers a dropkick against the ropes and goes for the cover, but Ivelisse kicks out. Ivelisse comes back and takes Rosa down with the Tiger Driver. Ivelisse goes for the cover, but Rosa kicks out. Rosa comes back and applies a cross-face submission, but Ivelisse gets to the ropes. Ivelisse comes back with a kick to the midsection, and then delivers an elbow shot. Rosa comes back with an elbow shot of her own, and then delivers a Death Valley Driver. Rosa goes for the cover, but Ivelisse kicks out. Ivelisse comes back with a kick to the face and goes for the cover, but Rosa kicks out. Rosa comes back with a kick to the midsection and then drops her with a Tombstone pile driver and gets the pin fall.
Winner and still NWA World Women’s Champion: Thunder Rosa
-After the match, Diamante attacks Rosa from behind and sends her to the floor. Hikaru Shida gets into the ring and attacks Diamante and Ivelisse and sends them to the floor. Shida picks up the NWA World Women’s title belt, looks at it, and then places it over Rosa’s shoulder.

Miro’s debut from last week is shown again, and then he is shown working out backstage as Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford stand by. Sabian and Miro talk about Sabian’s bachelor party, and he promises that it will be great.

Lance Archer comes to the ring with Jake Roberts. He drags a guy into the ring and drops him with a choke slam. Roberts says they are not happy about having to find tag team partners, but if he is going to lay in bed with the devil, he prefers it to me the Tasmanian Devil. He calls Taz to the ring. Taz says Team Taz is happy to do business with Roberts and Archer. He says the trio of Archer, Brian Cage, and Ricky Starks will be a deadly trio. Taz says the deal is when Archer beats Moxley for the title, he gives Brian Cage the first shot. Archer says Taz and his boys are enemies of his enemy, and that makes them friends for now. He says AEw will have a monster as a champion come October 14th, and he doesn’t care about what Eddie Kingston says about not going over the top rope. Jon Moxley’s music hits and he comes out on the balcony. Starks and Cage attack Moxley on the balcony and beat him down. Will Hobbs rushes in and hits Cage with a chair a few times before Starks and Cage get away. Moxley says they have a hell of a team, but let him introduce his partners: Will Hobbs and Darby Allin.

Match #6 – Tag Team Parking Lot Fight: Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent) vs. Santana and Ortiz
Taylor and Santana brawl on one side, as Trent and Ortiz brawl on the other. Trent slams Ortiz inside the engine compartment of the car. Taylor comes over and sentons onto the hood as Ortiz was underneath it. Trent connects with a senton of his own as well. Best Friends lay a sheet of plywood over the bed of a truck and Trent delivers more shots to Ortiz. Taylor slams Santana into a car, but Santana comes back with a baton. Santana has been busted open, but he catapults Trent into the undercarriage of the truck. Taylor comes back and slams Ortiz into some trash cans and gets on top of a car with him. Ortiz counters with a suplex onto the hood of the car. Santana comes off the truck with a senton onto Taylor. Santana goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out. Ortiz hits Taylor with a trash can, but Trent slams Ortiz into the car. Trent lays a doos over the front end of the car, but Ortiz hits him with the baton. Trent comes back with a shot and spears Ortiz through the door on the car. Santana slams Taylor onto the hood of the car, and then hits him with the door. Santana delivers more shots and slams Taylor into the hood again. Taylor comes back with a back drop over the hood of the car. Trent goes for a DDT on the concrete, but Ortiz blocks it and hits Trent in the head with a metal dust pan.
Taylor puts a barricade against the front end of a car and suplexes Ortiz onto it. Santana breaks a piece of wood over Trent’s back, but Trent fights back and slams Santana into another car. Trent delivers more shots to Santana and then goes after Ortiz. Santana slams Taylor into the car as Ortiz low blows Trent. Ortiz power bombs Trent on the roof of the car and then Santana and Ortiz power bomb him through the window of the car. Taylor comes back with a baseball bat and hits Satana with it. Taylor chokes Santana with the bat, but Ortiz breaks it up. Taylor breaks a piece of wood over Ortiz’s back and then Santana slams Taylor into the trash cans. Ortiz hits Trent with a piece of wood as Santana kicks Taylor in the face. Santana delivers lefts and rights to Taylor and grabs a lead pipe. Orange Cassidy comes out of the truck of a car and hits Santana with the Orange Punch with a steel chain wrapped around his hand. Cassidy hands Santana to Taylor, who pile drives Santana on the car. Trent grabs Ortiz and pile drives him through the plywood on the bed of the truck and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Best Friends
-After the match, Best Friends and Cassidy get in Trent’s mom’s van and they leave the stadium, but not before Sue flips Santana and Ortiz off.
