9/9/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

Dynamite opens with Tony Schiavone in the parking lot. Two cars pulls up, and MJF and Chris Jericho walk up. He says he wants to talk about the one match from All Out that everyone is talking about, and they both thank him. Jericho says MJF had a great match and got cheated, and that he will be the AEW World Champion soon. MJF thanks him and says the fact that Jericho even had to touch Orange Cassidy and that he lost to him twice is criminal. MJF says Jericho will eventually regain his AEW World Championship. A split-screen shows both of them walking away and calling the other a loser.

The opening credits roll. Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) (w/Marko Stunt) vs. The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix) (w/Eddie Kingston, The Butcher, and The Blade)
Fenix and Jungle Boy start the match. They exchange arm drags early on and stand at a stalemate. Fenix delivers a shot to the midsection and tags in Penta. Fenix delivers a dropkick as Penta connects with a shot to Luchasaurus. Penta connects with an assisted splash to Jungle Boy and slaps him across the chest. Penta goes for the package pile-driver, but Jungle Boy escapes and tags in Luchasaurus. Jungle Boy drops Penta with a flatliner and Luchasaurus goes for the cover, but Fenix breaks it up. Penta throws his glove at Luchasaurus, but Luchasaurus knocks him down with repeated chops. Penta delivers a cross-body, but Jungle Boy tags in and drops Penta with a hurricanrana. Fenix tags in, but Jungle Boy sends him and Penta to the floor. Jungle Boy goes for another dive, but Penat shoves him into Fenix, who delivers a superkick. Fenix tosses Jungle Boy back into the ring and Penta goes for the cover, but Jungle Boy kicks out. Penta kicks Jungle Boy in the hamstring and works him over on the mat. Fenix tags in, as does Luchasaurus. Luchasaurus delivers shots and kicks to The Lucha Brothers, and then slams Fenix to the mat.
Penta gets in the ring, but Luchasaurus knees him in the face. Luchasaurus choke slams Fenix from the top rope and connects with the standing moonsault. Luchasaurus goes for the cover, but Penta kicks him in the head. Jungle Boy tags in, as Fenix drops Luchasaurus with a flying headbutt. Fenix slams Jungle Boy with the Gory Bomb and tags in Penta. Penta drops Luchasaurus with the Slingblade and delivers a Backstabber to Jungle Boy. The Lucha Brothers slam Jungle Boy to the mat with the package pile-driver/double stomp combo, and then Fenix takes Luchasaurus out with a dive. Penta goes for the cover, but Jungle Boy kicks out. Some miscommunication between The Lucha Brothers allows Jungle Boy to come back and roll-up Fenix for the pin fall.
Winners: Jurassic Express
-After the match, Penta and Fenix get in each other’s faces and shove each other. Butcher and Blade get in the ring and separate them. Kingston gets in the ring and asks them if they are done and tells them to stop. He tells them that he is there for them, and Butcher and Blade are there for them. He asks them what happened during the Casino Battle Royale and tells them that they should be running this place. He tells them to shake hands, but Penta shoves Fenix away again. Kingston tells them to shake hands again and Penta finally accepts. They hug and Kingston says he was never eliminated from the battle royal and says to read the rules.

Highlights from the AEW World Championship Match between Jon Moxley and MJF at All Out are shown.

The announce team runs down the card for the rest of the show.

Jake Roberts and Lance Archer cut a promo. Roberts says they are hear to trash cars while Moxley drives the nice ones. Archer says Moxley has been the AEW World Champion for far too long, and in the end everybody dies.

Matt Hardy makes his way to the ring. He thanks the fans watching in the arena live and everyone watching at home. He says he suffered a very scary fall at All Out, and he knows it frightened a lot of people. He says after a myriad of tests, he is expected to make a full recovery. He says he will take being the luckiest man alive, because he has a beautiful family and he apologizes for putting them through that on Saturday night. He apologizes to the fans as well and thanks them for caring so much. He says he is sorry that the Broken Rules Match wasn’t all that he wanted it to be, but maybe it is a good thing that the vendetta between he and Sammy Guevara is over. He says he is going to get healthy, and when he is cleared he is going to get back in the ring and pick up the wins. He says he wants to get ranked and pick up a title.

Match #2 – Singles Match: Angelico (w/Jack Evans) vs. Orange Cassidy
Angelico delivers a right hand as Evans provides a distraction. Angelico goes for a back slide, but Cassidy holds on. Angelico drives a knee into Cassidy’s midsection, but Cassidy comes back. Cassidy goes for a DDT, but Angelico counters and takes Cassidy down with a drop toe hold. Angelico applies a submission, but Cassidy makes it to the ropes. Cassidy comes back and sends Angelico to the outside. Cassidy takes Angelico out with a dive and tosses him back into the ring. Cassidy delivers the Orange Punch and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
-After the match, Santana and Ortiz rush the ring and beat down Cassidy. Best Friends rush out and send Santana and Ortiz running from the ring. Chuck Taylor gets on the mic and says this has to end. He tells Santana and Ortiz to meet them in the parking lot on the next Dynamite. Trent tells them to shove their apology up their asses and says next week, they are coming to hurt Santana and Ortiz and to make his mom proud. Best Friends and Cassidy share a hug as the show heads to a commercial.

Alex Marvez tries to get a word with The Young Bucks, but they open their locker room door and deliver a double superkick to him.

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford join Tony Schiavone in the ring. Sabian tells Schiavone to get out of the ring. Sabian says everyone has asked him to be his best man. He says he wants to introduce us to his best man, and “Puff” comes out of the tunnel. He says he told Puff he was the best for subscribing, but not the best man. Brian Pillman Jr. comes out of the tunnel and gets into the ring. Sabian asks him what he is doing here. Pillman says he got Sabian’s text, but Sabian says the test said, “You’re the best, man.” Sabian says they are not even friends and sends him out of the ring. Miro comes out of the tunnel now. Miro gets into the ring and takes the microphone. He says ten years of being in the same house and going for the brass ring, and says to shove the brass ring. He says elite recognizes elite and says his name is Miro, and he is all elite.

Tony Schiavone sits down with Adam Page in a pre-recorded interview. Page says he feels alright, but Schiavone says he doesn’t want the stock answer. He says it felt like everyone in the arena at All Out were holding their breath because they somehow knew he and Kenny Omega were going to implode and lose the titles. He says FTR shouldn’t have been the number one contenders, and it is his fault that they didn’t. He says he was stupid to think that FTR were like him. Page says he and Omega have had a lot of problems, but they have also had a lot of victories. He says they were the best tag team in the world, and they still can be. He says they have to climb back to the top and get their titles back, and he says he knows they will.

Match #3 – No Disqualification, No Countout Tag Team Match: Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss vs. The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho and Jake Hager)
Janela and Jericho start the match and exchange shots. Jericho backs Janela into the corner, but Janela comes back with a clothesline. Janela delivers right hands, but Jericho comes back with some of his own. Janela drops Jericho again and tags in Kiss. Kiss and Janela drop Jericho with a double bulldog and then deliver a double dropkick. Kiss sends Hager to the floor, but Jericho rakes Kiss’s eyes. Jericho drops Kiss with a right hand and chokes him over the ropes. Kiss comes back with a roundhouse kick and then Kiss and Janela drop Jericho and Hager with dropkicks. Kiss kicks Hager in the chest and Janela drops Jericho with a dive through the ropes. Janela tosses Jericho back into the ring and grabs a chair. Janela hits Jericho with a chair a few times and goes for a back elbow, but Jericho catches him and slams him on the chair as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Hager and Jericho are in control. Jericho kicks Janela in the face, but Janela comes back and sends Jericho face-first into a chair that was wedged in the corner. Hager and Kiss tag in and Kiss gets a roll-up for two. Kiss kicks Hager in the face and goes for the cover, but Jericho makes the save. Kiss sends Jericho onto the stage, but Hager runs over Kiss from behind. Hager puts a trash can on Kiss and goes for the Hager Bomb, but Kiss hits him in the face with the can. Janela takes Hager to the floor and delivers shots to Jericho on the stags. Jericho comes back and slams Janela into the stage wall and sends him to Hager. Hager throws Janela from the stage and through a table that was on the floor. Kiss takes Jericho and Hager out with a dive and gets them into the ring. Kiss kicks Hager in the midsection and delivers X’s and O’s to Jericho. Kiss drops Hager to the mat and goes up top, but Jericho uses a fire extinguisher in his face. Hager slams Kiss to the mat and gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Inner Circle
-After the match, Jericho says The Inner Circle has a terrible night at All Out but that is all in the past. He says it is about the future, and he says he and Hager are going to build up their wins in the tag team division and get a shot at the AEW Tag Team Championship.

MJF holds a meeting with his campaign team. He says Dictator Jon cheated and used an illegal move at All Out. He says his campaign is to blame, because they are blew their jobs. He fires everyone and everyone leaves except Wardlow. Wardlow calls him “sir” and MJF chastises him for it. He calls Wardlow an illiterate oaf and Wardlow gets in his face. MJF asks him if they have a problem, because the last time he checked, he, not Tony Khan, signs Wardlow’s checks. He says he is the only person who cares about Wardlow and tells him to get it together. He says if he doesn’t he is going to have to put him and his entire family on the street. MJF asks again if they have a problem, and Wardlow says no. MJF says it is time to plan to get back on top where they belong.

Jon Moxley cuts a promo on Lance Archer. He says no matter what obstacle is put in front of him, he comes out the other side. He says he knows he is unstoppable, and Lance Archer won’t change that. He says everyone sees a monster when they look at Archer, but he only sees a man.

FTR and Tully Blanchard are in the ring for their celebration. The ring is surrounded by other wrestlers. He says FTR are the greatest tag team champions in the entire world. Cash Wheeler says AEW has the best tag team division in the world and he says they had to fight for all of their victories so far. He says they grew up watching SCU and says imagine if they were still in their prime. Dax Harwood says they represent the entire division now and they are the top guys in AEW. He addresses Billy is a legend, but he and his son are not jumping to the front of the line. Harwood says Jurassic Express has a shot at them next week, but it’s not for the belt. He says they will never let some comedy gimmick ever run the division. Jurassic Express gets in the ring, but FTR says this is not a fight, but a celebration. FTR goes for cheap shots, but Luchasaurus grabs them and sets up for a double choke slam. They get free and escape the ring, but the tag teams on the outside surround them. Marko Stung dumps out a cooler of ice and beer onto FTR and Blanchard on the floor. The rest of the tag teams share cake and beer in the ring as FTR and Blanchard leave.

Taz has joined the commentary team. He says he is here to talk about the unfortunate situation at All Out with Darby Allin. Highlights of what happened to Allin are shown, which includes Brian Cage putting him in a body bag with thumb tacks and throwing him out of the ring. Ricky Starks comes out dressed as Allin, and continues to mock him. Starks asks if Allin is relentless or reckless. He says there is a reason that no one wants to tag with Allin, and says the next time Allin shows his face he is going to beat his ass.

Highlights from the Tooth and Nail Match between Big Swole and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and the AEW Women’s World Championship Match between Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa from ALl Out are shown.

Match #4 – Singles Match: Nyla Rose (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. Tay Conti
Conti delivers quick strikes, but Rose backs her into the corner. Rose tosses Conti across the ring, but Conti comes back with a couple of kicks. Conti shoves Rose into the corner and goes for a roll-up, but Rose kicks out. Conti drops Rose to the mat and applies a knee bar. Rose gets free and rakes Conti’s eyes. Rose smashes Conti in the corner and sends her out of the ring. Guerrero gets a cheap shot on Conti on the outside as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Rose sends Conti into the corner. Conti comes back with a kick to the face and goes for a sunset flip, but Rose blocks it and slams Conti to the mat. Rose comes for a choke slam, but Conti counters and locks in an arm-bar. Rose powers out and delivers the Beast Bomb for the pin fall.
Winner: Nyla Rose
-After the match, Guerrero says the Vicious Vixens are here to make a statement. She says they are not going anywhere, and Rose goes after Conti again. Hikaru Shida runs out with a kendo stick to back Rose away. Guerrero and Rose leave the ring as Shida checks on Conti.

It is announced that The Young Bucks have been fined $5,000 each for their superkicks on Alex Marves earlier in the show.

Jim Ross has a sit-down interview with Kenny Omega. Omega says he was a champion, and now he is not. He says you win belts and you lose belts and it is all a part of the game. Omega says he and Page had a chemistry and there was something that held them together. He says he had visions and expectations thrown on him, but he did not have a direction and lost his way. He says he found a different purpose with Page. He says for them to get to the level they did, they had to dig deep and he is glad they had the experience they did. He says if Page has plans for a rematch for the titles, he better make other plans. He says he is destined for other things, and it is time he moves back to single action.

On Wednesday, October 14th, Jon Moxley defends the AEW World Championship against Lance Archer.

On next week’s Dynamite, which will either be on Wednesday or Thursday depending on the NBA Playoff schedule, the following matches are announced:

Best Friends vs. Santana and Ortiz in a Parking Lot Fight

Match #5 – AEW TNT Championship Match: Mr. Brodie Lee (c) (w/John Silver) vs. Dustin Rhodes
Rhodes attacks Lee during introductions and they brawl to the floor. Lee sends Rhodes over the barricade and they brawl into the stands. Rhodes sends Lee onto a table with a back body drop and then delivers an uppercut. They brawl around ringside and Silver gets knocked down. They get into the ring and the bell rings. Rhodes chops Lee in the corner, but they quickly go back to the floor. Lee delivers a right hand and tosses Rhodes back into the ring. Lee delivers a few chops in the corner, but Rhodes turns it around and delivers a series of right hands. Rhodes delivers a few uppercuts, but Lee comes back and slams him in the corner. Lee delivers a few more chops, but Rhodes comes back with shots to the midsection. Lee delivers a knee to the midsection and catapults Rhodes into the ropes as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Rhodes delivers a few shots. Lee sends Rhodes into the corner, but Rhodes comes back with a power slam. Rhodes goes for the Destroyer, but Lee counters and takes Rhodes to the mat. Rhodes comes back with a hurricanrana and then connects with the Destroyer. Rhodes goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Lee comes back with a right hand and goes for a power bomb, but Rhodes escapes and delivers Cross Rhodes. Rhodes goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Lee comes back with a superkick and power bombs Rhodes to the mat. Lee goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out. Lee sends Rhodes to the corner, but Rhodes comes back and sends Lee to the floor. Rhodes drops Lee with a cannonball senton and tosses him back into the ring. Silver gets on the apron, but Rhodes delivers the Unnatural Kick to Lee. Rhodes sends Silver to the floor and delivers a pile driver to Lee. Rhodes goes for the cover, but Lee grabs the ropes. They exchange shots and then Rhodes drops Lee with a clothesline. Rhodes goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Lee comes back with a couple of thrust kicks and hits the discus lariat for the pin fall.
Winner and still AEW TNT Champion: Mr. Brodie Lee
-After the match, the rest of The Dark Order come to the ring to celebrate. They bring out QT Marshall, who is knocks out. Lee wants Colt Cabana out of the ring, and Evil Uno leaves with Cabana as the rest of the Dark Order celebrate with Lee. They pick Rhodes up, and Lee delivers a low blow as the show comes to a close.
