8/22/20 AEW Saturday Night Dynamite Recap

The opening credits roll. Jim Ross, Taz, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (w/Tully Blanchard) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen)
Harwood gets Quen in a side-headlock and drops him with a shoulder tackle. Harwood drops Quen again with a hip-toss, but Quen comes back with a few arm-drags. Wheeler and Kassidy get involved, and Private Party take control. Harwood rakes Quen’s eyes and tags in Wheeler. Wheeler delivers an uppercut and drops Quen with a scoop slam. Harwood tags in, and Private Party isolate him in the corner and make quick tags. Private Party double-team Harwood and take him down to the mat. Quen goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Quen knocks Wheeler down on the apron and sends Harwood to the floor. Harwood gets back in the ring and Wheeler tags in. FTR double-team Quen and drop him with a double clothesline. Wheeler connects with a low dropkick and chops Quen against the ropes. Wheeler chokes Quen over the ropes and tags in Harwood. Harwood drops an elbow and drives his knee into Quen’s head. Harwood slams Quen in the corner and delivers an uppercut. Harwood applies a headlock, but Quen gets free. Quen applies a sleeper, but Wheeler tags in. Harwood drops Quen with a clothesline and Wheeler goes for the cover, but Quen kicks out.
Wheeler applies a headlock and Harwood tags in. Quen gets sent to the floor and Wheeler goes for a dive, but Quen dodges it and Wheeler hits the barricade. Harwood and Kassidy tag in and Kassidy delivers a few clotheslines. Kassidy delivers one to Wheeler as well, and then drops Wheeler with a cutter over the top rope. Kassidy kicks Wheeler in the face and then drops Harwood with a cutter. Kassidy goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Quen tags in and takes Harwood down with a cross-body. Quen goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out. Wheeler pulls Kassidy to the floor as Quen rolls Harwood up for two. Quen gets another roll-up, but Harwood kicks out again. Harwood comes back with a back-slide, but Quen kicks out. Wheeler tags in and drops Quen with a spine-buster. Wheeler goes for the cover, but Kassidy breaks it up. Kassidy sends Harwood to the floor and dives, but Blanchard pulls Harwood out of the way. Wheeler slams Quen into the corner and then FTR drops him with the Goodnight Express and get the pin fall.
Winners: FTR

The AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley, has a pre-recorded promo. He says MJF is good at taking shots at him, but it doesn’t bother him. He says people who feel the need to talk about themselves all the time rub him the wrong way. He says where he comes from, the toughest guys don’t have to say much. He says MJF talks a lot and asks MJF what he is hiding. He says MJF is talented in every way, and he hopes MJF can lead the company because he wants the company to last for decades. Moxley says he hopes MJF fulfills all of his potential, and he says he hopes MJF moves out of his parent’s basement and becomes the World Champion. Moxley says that won’t happen on September 5th. Moxley says he will be in his heaven on September 5th, while MJF will be looking for a way out.

MJF gives an update. He says Moxley attacked him from behind last week. He says Moxley’s actions have consequences. MJF is wearing a neck-brace. MJF says he will not be able to play with his kids because of the Paradigm Shift. His attorney speaks and says the Paradigm Shift is a dangerous moves. He says medical experts have said the move is potentially deadly. The attorney asks who is next if Moxley can keep using the move. He says they put a petition online calling for the Paradigm Shift, and says it received five million signatures. He says they drew up a contract that says the Paradigm Shift is banned from the match at All Out. He says Moxley will sign it, because he is a bad ass. He asks why would a bad ass need one move to beat one guy. He says if Moxley doesn’t sign it, he will sue him for everything.

Match #2 – Eight-Man Tag Team Match: Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) and The Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall) (w/Marko Stunt) vs. Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix) and The Butcher and The Blade
Lucha Brothers and The Butcher and The Blade take control early on, but Marshall comes back and delivers an enzuigiri to Butcher. Marshall delivers a right hand to Blade, but Butcher comes back with a right hand. Fenix gets a shot on Marshall, and Blade tags in. Rhodes tags in and drops Blade with a few arm-drags. Butcher knees Rhodes in the back, but Rhodes sends him to the floor. Fenix, Butcher, and Pentagon pull Rhodes to the floor and beat him down. They roll him back into the ring and Blade drives his knee into Rhodes’s throat. Butcher tags in and he and Blade delivers a double headbutt to Rhodes. Butcher slams Rhodes into the corner and chokes him with his boot. Pentagon tags in and kicks Rhodes in the hamstring. Fenix tags in and delivers an ax handle to Rhodes as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Rhodes and Blade are the legal men. Luchasaurus and Pentagon tag in, and then Jungle Boy takes out Butcher and Blade with dives. Fenix goes after Luchasaurus, but Jungle Boy takes him out with a dive. Jungle Boy drops Butcher and Blade again as Luchasaurus delivers kicks to Pentagon. Luchasaurus delivers a choke slam and goes for the cover, but Pentagon kicks out. Butcher comes in and drops Luchasaurus with a shoulder tackle. Luchasaurus comes back for a kick, but Blade takes him down. Marshall comes in and delivers shots to Butcher and Blade. Fenix kicks Marshall in the head and Pentagon takes him down with a Slingblade. Jungle Boy drops Pentagon with a DDT, but Fenix takes Jungle Boy down with a dropkick. Rhodes drops Fenix with a Destroyer, and Pentagon and Jungle Boy are left in the ring. Blade goes up top and tells Pentagon to set up, but Pentagon tells him no. Blade and Pentagon shove each other, and Jungle Boy rolls up Blade for the pin fall.
Winners: Jurassic Express and The Natural Nightmares
-After the match, Lucha Brothers and The Butcher and The Blade argue in the ring. Eddie Kingston comes to the ring. He says people only beat them when they are divided. He hypes them all up and says they can take over, but not if they are divided. He tells them all to come with him and they will go far. They all share a hug in the ring.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. is shown in the gym, but she is interrupted by Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford. She says Sabian and Ford have been swapping a lot of saliva, which can cause infections. She says she will give them free dental care for a year if they take care of Big Swole for her. Baker says they can join them in a Handicap Match against Big Swole, and then says Reba will to Ford’s makeup for free for a year, and they accept.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring, and he introduces Orange Cassidy. Cassidy comes to the ring with Best Friends. Before Cassidy can speak, Chris Jericho’s music hits and the Demo God comes to the stage. Jericho congratulates Cassidy on his win last week. Jericho says he has only been pinned three times in AEW, and one of those times was last week to Cassidy. Jericho says he is proud of Cassidy, because he proved he is learning from Jericho. Jericho says Cassidy has proven that he has what it takes to be a main event star and says he wants to give Cassidy a toast. He says as it stands, they have one win each, and they need to have a third match to find out who the better man is. Jericho says they should take it to another level, and says it needs to be based on them. He says it is called the Mimosa Mayhem Match. A video plays for the match, which will take place at All Out on September 5th. 80 gallons of orange juice will be mixed with 500 cases of The Bubbly. The only way to win is by pin fall, submission, or throwing your opponent into the tub of mimosa at ringside. Jericho asks Cassidy if he accepts the challenge, and Cassidy gives his thumbs up. The rest of The Inner Circle comes to ringside, holding bottles of The Bubbly. They toast Cassidy and then hope in the ring. Jericho tells The Inner Circle to get them, and The Inner Circle beats down Best Friends and Cassidy.

Match #3 – Six-Man Tag Team Match: The Dark Order (Alan Angels, Alex Reynolds, and John Silver) vs. The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson)
Angels and Nick start the match, and Nick delivers a dropkick. They go to the stage, and then Nick takes Angels down with an arm-drag back in the ring. Matt tags in and takes Angels down with an arm-drag. The Bucks double dropkick Angels, and then send Reynolds and Silver to the floor with dropkicks as well. Matt delivers a series of Northern Lights suplexes to Angels, but Reynolds and Silver break it up. Matt drops them with Northern Lights suplexes and then tags in Omega. The Elite triple-team Angels and slam him to the mat. Omega goes for the cover, but Reynolds and Silver breaks it up. The Bucks send Reynolds and Silver to the floor and take them out with dives. Omega delivers a few chops to Angels and then drops him with a senton. Omega goes to the ropes, but Silver grabs his ankle. Angels shoves Omega to the floor and then Reynolds kicks a chair into Omega’s head. Angels comes down onto Omega with the chair, and then Silver and Reynolds slam Matt to the floor as well. Omega gets rolled into the ring and Angels goes for the cover, but Omega kicks out. Silver tags in and delivers an uppercut to Omega as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Nick is in control of the match. Matt tags in as Nick kicks Silver in the face. The Bucks double-team Reynolds in the corner and slam him to the mat. Omega tags in and The Elite triple-team Reynolds. Silver and Angels pull The Bucks to the floor and then Dark Order triple-teams Omega. Reynolds rolls up Omega, but Omega kicks out at two. Omega comes bacl with an elbow to Reynolds and a snap-dragon suplex to Angels and Silver. Matt tags in and he and Nick go for the Meltzer Driver, but Silver breaks it up and Dark Order takes control. Angels tags in and stomps on Matt’s chest from the top. Angels goes for the cover, but Omega breaks it up. Matt comes back and delivers a superkick to Silver. The Bucks double superkick Angels and then Nick takes out Silver and Reynolds with a dive. The Elite drop Angels with a triple Indietaker and then Omega plants Angels with the One-Winged Angel and gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Elite
-After the match, Omega tries to power bomb Angels onto a chair, but Matt moves the chair out of the way. Omega gets mad as The Bucks try to calm him down.

Alex Marvez is backstage with FTR and Tully Blanchard. Wheeler says they want to be the best, and they are going to learn from the best. Blanchard says it is about getting from “almost” to being the best. There will be a number one contender’s tag team gauntlet match on next Thursday’s Dynamite featuring The Natural Nightmares, The Young Bucks, Best Friends, and FTR. The winners will challenge Adam Page and Kenny Omega for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at All Out. Page walks in and asks them what the hell they are doing. Wheeler says they did what they had to do to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express last week. Harwood says he had to fake his knee injury to see if he could trust The Bucks and Page. He says he can trust Page because he checked on him. Harwood says they will be focused on winning the gauntlet match and going to to All Out to face one man that they respect in Page.

Match #4 – Singles Match: Darby Allin vs. Will Hobbs
Allin attacks Hobbs before the bell and sends him to the outside. The bell rings and Allin kicks Hobbs in the face. Allin comes off the ropes, but Hobbs catches him. Allin gets free and chop blocks Hobbs’s knee. Hobbs comes back with a back drop and beats him down in the corner. Allin fights back, but Hobbs drops him with a spine-buster. Hobbs goes for the cover, but Allin kicks out. Allin comes back and slams Hobbs to the mat. Allin hits the Coffin Drop and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Darby Allin
-After the match, Taz gets on the mic. He says Team Taz is flourishing. He says they have a new member and he wants Allin to meet him right now. He says his name is also Darby, and out comes Ricky Starks with his face painted like Allin. Starks mocks Allin’s wreckless style and then Brian Cage gets into the ring and lays Allin out with the FTW Championship. Starks says Allin is a joke and says the difference between them is that he doesn’t need face paint to be somebody. Starks says he will always be better than Allin in every single way. Starks hits Allin with a skateboard and then hits the Coffin Drop on Allin.

Back from the commercial, Matthew Hardy is beating down Sammy Guevara on the stage. Hardy throws Guevara off the stage and sends him crashing through some tables. Referee rush out to stop Hardy as he tries to hit Guevara with the chair that busted him open two weeks ago.

The NWA Women’s World Champion, Thunder Rosa, cuts a promo. She says she heard Hikaru Shida talking, and she is here to put the women’s division on the mat. She says she is coming for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All Out.

Match #5 – AEW Women’s Tag Team Tournament: The Deadly Draw – Final Match: Diamante and Ivelisse vs. The Nightmare Sisters (Allie and Brandi Rhodes) (w/Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall)
Rhodes and Ivelisse start the match. Rhodes takes Ivelisse down with an arm-drag and goes for a quick cover, but Ivelisse kicks out. Ivelisse comes back with an elbow and a few kicks. Diamante tags in and she and Ivelisse double-team Rhodes. Diamante goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out and tags in Allie. Allie kicks Diamante in the midsection and sends her to the corner. Allie connects with a few shots, but Diamante comes back with an arm-drag. Allie sends Diamante to the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Allie and Diamante are still legal. Allie puts Diamante up top and delivers a few shots. Allie climbs up, but Diamante shoves her down and then kicks Rhodes. Diamante suplexes Allie to the mat, and then Rhodes and Ivelisse tag in. Ivelisse takes control and then slams Rhodes to the mat. Ivelisse goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out. Diamante tags in, but Rhodes takes her down and tags in Allie. Allie slams Diamante to the mat and goes for the cover, but Ivelisse breaks it up. Ivelisse sends Rhodes to the floor, but Allie takes Diamante out with a back elbow. Ivelisse comes in and she and Diamante double-team Allie, but Marshall gets on the apron. Ivelisse sends Rhodes onto Marshall, and then Diamante and Ivelisse double team Allie and Ivelisse gets the pin fall after a kick to the face.
Winners of the AEW Women’s Tag Team Tournament: Diamante and Ivelisse
-After the match, Diamante and Ivelisse throw the ceremonial flowers on the ground and celebrate with their respective country flags.

Match #6 – AEW TNT Championship Match: Cody (c) (w/Arn Anderson) vs. Mr. Brodie Lee
Cody connects with a few kicks in the corner, but Lee shoves him away. Lee connects with a dropkick and throws Cody to the floor. Lee kicks Cody in the face and sends Cody over the barricade. Lee goes after Cody and delivers more shots. Lee delivers chops as Cody gets back into the ring. Lee connects with a back elbow in the corner and then suplexes Cody to the mat. Lee connects with another suplex and then delivers a superkick. Lee delivers another superkick and goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out. Lee slams Cody to the mat again and drops him with the Discus Lariat and gets the pin fall.
Winner and new AEW TNT Champion: Mr. Brodie Lee
-After the match, the rest of the Dark Oder comes to the ring to celebrate with Lee. Schiavone gets into the ring for an interview. Lee says no one thought they could do this, and they have created a monster. Cody gets loaded onto a stretcher as Lee says Dark Order is now on top. Lee says people like Schiavone created him and says he knocked it out of the park with his chance. Paramedics take Cody out on a stretcher and Lee tells Schiavone to get out of the ring. As Cody is stretchered out, he gives a thumbs up. Dark Order attacks Arn Anderson. Dark Order wheels Cody back out and Lee dumps the stretcher over on the stage. Lee delivers another shot to Cody on the stage and then stands over him. Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall are beat down and laid on the stage by Cody. Brandi comes out and tries to protect Cody, but Anna Jay grabs Brandi and chokes her out. Lee dumps out the old, broken TNT Championship onto Cody and holds the new one in the air. Dark Order leaves as the medical staff checks on The Nightmare Family and the show comes to a close.
