6/10/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

The show opens with a quick recap of some of the happenings from last weeks show. Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida, and they run down the card for the show. Chris Jericho then joins the commentary team.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) vs. The Butcher and The Blade
Harwood and Blade start the match. They lock up, and Blade backs Harwood into the corner. Blade drops Harwood to the mat and applies a side headlock. Harwood gets to his feet, but Blade keeps control with a right hand. Harwood comes back with chops, and then drops Blade with a shoulder tackle. Harwood gets a roll-up, but Blade kicks out. Harwood takes Blade down with a side-headlock take down, and then tags in Wheeler. Wheeler connects with a double ax handle, and then wrenches Blade’s arm. Harwood tags back in, and takes Blade down with a suplex. Harwood goes for the cover, but Blade kicks out. Blade backs Harwood into the corner, and Butcher tags in. Wheeler tags in, and Harwood grabs Butcher’s ankle. Wheeler connects with some shots, and delivers a dropkick. He feigns a shoulder injury and rolls up Butcher, but Butcher kicks out. Butcher comes back and takes control with a few shots, and Blade tags in. Butcher and Blade double-team Wheeler in the corner, and then Blade takes him to the mat.
Butcher tags back in, and chokes Wheeler over the ropes. Blade tags back in, and he and Butcher double-team Wheeler in the corner. Blade applies a headlock on the mat, but Wheeler comes back with a jaw-breaker. Blade knocks Harwood to the floor, but Wheeler comes back and plants Blade with a power-slam. Harwood tags in, and delivers a series of right hands to Blade. Harwood drops him with a back suplex, and knocks Butcher to the floor. Harwood drops Blade to the mat, and then sends Butcher back to the floor. Harwood plants Blade with a brain buster, and then sets him up top. Butcher comes back and shoves Harwood to the mat. Wheeler comes back, and he and Harwood drop Butcher with a DDT. Harwood suplexes Blade to the mat, and Wheeler connects with a splash. Wheeler goes for the cover, but Blade kicks out. Butcher pulls Wheeler to the floor, and Blade rolls up Harwood for two. Butcher and Blade double-team Harwood and slam him to the mat. Butcher goes for the cover, but Harwood kicks out.
Butcher and Blade go for Full Death, but Wheeler breaks it up. Wheeler drops Butcher with the Goodnight Express, and then FTR drop Blade with the Line Breaker and get the pin fall.
Winners: FTR
-After the match, The Young Bucks come to the ring. Matt says they did not get to formally introduce themselves to FTR. He introduces them, and says they have been carrying tag team wrestling for a decade. They extend their hands for a handshake, but Butcher attacks them from behind. A brawl ensues, and then Adam Page and Kenny Omega get into the ring. The brawl ends with Page and Omega, The Bucks, and FTR standing in the ring.

Dasha Gonzalez is backstage with The Natural Nightmares, Brandi Rhodes, and Allie. Dasha tells them that they will face Page and Omega for the AEW World Tag Team Championship on next week’s show. Brandi asks why Allie is wearing her family’s jacket and asks QT Marshall if he gave it to her. He says yes, and Dustin interrupts. He says he needs Marshall in the game, and tells him to get Allie out of his system. He says Allie will not be with them at ringside next week.

Match #2 – Tag Team Match: Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander vs. Nyla Rose and Penelope Ford (w/Kip Sabian)
Rose and Ford attack Shida and Statlander before the bell, and then the bell rings. Shida gets sent to the floor, and then Rose and Ford double-team Statlander. Rose comes off the ropes for a Spear, but Statlander moves and Rose hits Ford. Statlander comes back, and slams Rose to the mat. Statlander goes for the cover, but Rose kicks out. Shida tags in, and delivers a running knee to Rose in the corner. Statlander tags back in, but Rose comes back and takes her down to the mat. Rose goes for the cover, but Statlander kicks out. Rose delivers a few elbow shots, and then slams Statlander to the mat again as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Rose is still in control of Statlander. Statlander fights back to her feet, and takes Rose down with a shot to the head. Ford and Shida tag in, and Ford connects with a kick to the midsection. Shida comes back, and puts Ford up top. Shida connects with a knee strike, and then delivers another knee on the apron. Shida gets Ford back into the ring, and connects with a dropkick from the top. Shida takes Ford down with a suplex and goes for the cover, but Ford kicks out. Statlander gets into the ring, and she and Shida deliver a double back-breaker. Rose gets knocked down on the apron and Statlander goes for the cover on Ford, but Ford kicks out. Ford comes back, and takes Statlander to the mat. Ford goes for the cover, but Statlander kicks out. Rose tags in and keeps control over Statlander. Statlander fights back, and takes Rose down. Ford drops Statlander with a stunner, and then Shida drops Ford. Statlander comes back and drops Rose with an ax kick. Statlander goes for the cover, but Rose kicks out.
Shida tags in, but Rose drapes her over the top rope. Rose does the same to Statlander, and goes up top. rose delivers a double knee drop to both and sends Statlander to the outside. Shida comes back and delivers a knee strike to Rose, and Statlander takes Ford down on the floor. Statlander tosses Ford into the ring, and Shida delivers a Falcon Arrow. Shida goes for the cover, but Ford kicks out. Sabian grabs Shida’s ankle, but Statlander takes him out with a dive. Ford hits Shida with the AEW Women’s World Championship belt and takes her down with a fisherman’s suplex and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Penelope Ford and Nyla Rose

A vignette from Darby Allin airs. He says he still is not cleared to compete, but he doesn’t care. He then skateboards around Tony Hawk’s facility.

A new Role Model vignette from Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. airs. She talks about Big Swole, and says she is tired of hearing about her. She says she is happy to be a role model, but she needs respect to do it.

Match #3 – Six-Man Tag Team Match: Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent) and Orange Cassidy vs. The Inner Circle (Jake Hager, Ortiz, and Santana)
The Inner Circle attacks Best Friends and Cassidy as the bell ring. Hager takes Cassidy and slams him on the stage. Santana is in control of Trent in the ring, and puts his boot in his throat. Santana delivers shots in the corner, followed by chops. Santana delivers a knee to the midsection, and then kicks Trent in the face. Trent comes back with a side suplex, but Ortiz tags in. Taylor makes the tag, too, and he and Trent drop Ortiz with a suplex. Trent takes Hager out with a dive, and then Taylor does the same to Santana and Ortiz. Trent spears Ortiz at ringside, and they get Ortiz back into the ring. Hager and Santana attack Best Friends in the ring, and Hager slams Taylor into the corner. The Inner Circle triple-teams Taylor, and Hager delivers the Hager Bomb. Hager goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Trent and Ortiz are in the ring. Trent drops Ortiz with a swinging DDT, and tags in Cassidy. Hager tags in as well, but Cassidy connects with his devastating kicks. Hager shoves Cassidy in the corner, but Cassidy comes back and sends Hager to the floor. Cassidy takes Santana and Ortiz down as well, and takes Hager out with a dive. Cassidy takes Ortiz down with a cross-body, and plants Santana with a DDT. Cassidy comes off the ropes, but Hager catches him and slams him to the mat. Hager goes for the cover, but Best Friends breaks it up. Hager clotheslines Trent to the floor, as Taylor gets sent to the floor as well. Ortiz tags in as Hager slams Cassidy in the corner. Santana connects with a cannonball on Cassidy, and goes for Street Sweeper with Ortiz. Taylor shoves Santana t the floor, and Cassidy rolls up Ortiz and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Best Friends and Orange Cassidy
-After the match, Jericho leaves the commentary table and attacks Best Friends and Cassidy with Floyd the baseball bat. Jericho, Hager, Santana, and Ortiz stand over Best Friends and Cassidy. Jericho brings a bag of oranges in the ring, as Cassidy has been busted open. He hits Cassidy with the bag of oranges, and then hits him again as he is down on the mat.

Schiavone attempts to interview Billy and Austin Gunn at ringside, but MJF interrupts. He says he has been undefeated for over a year, is the owner of the Dynamite Diamond Ring, and has been ranked number one for three consecutive weeks. He says it is a joke that Jungle Boy got a title match before him. He says he is shark swimming in a sea of minnows. Billy interrupts and says MJF is the minnow. MJF says he is shocked that Billy isn’t trying to get more of his untalented sons a job. Wardlow steps in as a brawl almost breaks out.

Match #4 – Singles Match: Colt Cabana vs. Sammy Guevara
Guevara flips Cabana off, but Cabana applies a side headlock. Cabana delivers a few chops, and then takes Guevara down with a hurricanrana. Cabana drops Guevara with an arm-drag, and then wrenches Guevara’s arm. Guevara gets to the ropes, and then sends Cabana to the floor. Guevara drops Cabana with a dive on the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Cabana takes Guevara to the mat. Guevara comes back with a kick, but Cabana comes back with one of his own. Cabana delivers a series of right hands, and then a Bionic Elbow. Cabana connects with the Flying Apple in the corner and then splashes Guevara. Cabana goes for the cover, but Guevara kicks out. Guevara comes back with an enzuigiri, but Cabana slams him to the mat. Cabana connects with a moonsault and goes for the cover, but Guevara kicks out. Cabana goes for the Chicago Skyline, but he slips and Guevara connects with the GTS and get the pin fall.
Winner: Sammy Guevara
-After the match, The Dark Order comes to ringside, led by Mr. Brodie Lee. He offers a hand to Cabana, and Cabana accepts and Lee pulls him to his feet. Lee leaves with the rest of The Dark Order. He follows them down the tunnel. Guevara gets on the mic and says he is the greatest wrestler that AEW has. Matt Hardy comes out. He says he respect Guevara. He says he sees a young Matt Hardy in Guevara and calls him the future of AEW. He says to realize his maximum potential, he has to get away from Jericho. Guevara says Hardy tried to kill him twice, but Hardy goes through his character transformations. His Broken character sends Guevara running from the ring.

A vignette for Joey Janela airs.

Dasha is backstage with Cabana. He ignores her questions and knocks on Lee’s door. Lee opens it and allows him inside.

Next week: Billy vs. MJF, Adam Page and Kenny Omega defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Natural Nightmares, there will be an AEW TNT Championship Match, Le Sex Gods vs. Best Friends with Best Friends’ title shot at AEW Fyter Fest on the line, and Superbad Death Squad vs. The Young Bucks.

Alex Marvez stops Jon Moxley on his way into the arena. Moxley says he is in a real bad mood because he has no patience or time for people who run their mouth when they don’t know what they are talking about. He talks about Taz and Brian Cage, and says he cannot wait for Fyter Fest. He says he is going to pop Cage’s head and shut Taz’s mouth for good. He says Cage and Taz piss him off, and it drives him to train harder and to fight harder. He says Taz is one of the great trash talkers of all time, and then Taz walks up. Taz gets in Moxley’s face, and Cage attacks Moxley from behind. Cage slams Moxley through the back window of a car before he and Taz leave.

A video package for tonight’s main event between Cody and Marq Quen airs.

Match #5 – AEW TNT Championship Match: Cody (c) (w/Arn Anderson) vs. Marq Quen
Quen connects with a few quick shots, but Cody comes back and takes him to the mat. Quen comes back with a headlock, and then drops Cody with a shoulder tackle. Quen hits a standing moonsault and goes for a cover, but Cody kicks out. Cody comes back with a right hand, but Quen keeps control and takes Cody back down to the mat. Cody comes back and takes Quen down, and applies a surfboard submission as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Cody is in control. He wraps Quen’s leg around the ring post. Cody gets back into the ring, but Quen meets him with an enzuigiri. Cody comes back with a shot to Quen’s knee. Cody delivers a knee-breaker, but Quen comes back and sends Cody to the outside. Quen takes Cody out with a dive, and then takes him out with a second dive. Quen rolls Cody back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out. Cody rolls to the outside, but Quen connects with a 450 splash on Cody on the entrance ramp. Quen tosses Cody back into the ring and goes up top. He goes for a Shooting Star Press, but Cody dodges and locks in an ankle lock and Quen taps out.
Winner and still AEW TNT Champion: Cody
-After the match, Cody pulls Quen up and they share a hug. They shake hands, and Quen leaves the ring. Hager walks out to the stage and stares Cody down. Hager goes after Anderson, but Cody makes the save. Hager tosses Cody across the ring, and slams him to the mat. Hager picks up the AEW TNT Championship belt, but Private Party and Matt Hardy rush the ring. Quen hits Hager with a chair, and they get him out of the ring. Santana, Ortiz, and Guevara join Hager on the stage, and then all eight men begin to brawl. Cody, Hardy, and Private Party clear the ring, and then Cody says he will defend the title against Hager at Fyter Fest as the show comes to a close.
