5/13/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

Excalibur, Jim Ross, and Tony Schiavone are on commentary from Jacksonville, Florida, and various wrestlers are seated at ringside as usual.

Lance Archer and Jake Roberts make their way to the ring. Archer beats a guy from backstage down on his way to the ring. Roberts says he has been asked to make an apology for his actions last week, and he will do it as soon as Brandi Rhodes kisses his ass. He says he and Archer are writing every chapter in their book and says women are great at home and runs down a bunch of activities for them to do. Roberts says Cody’s time is almost up and it is almost time to pay the piper. Cody drives into the arena in his truck and begins fighting with Archer. They brawl all around the ring and then get into it. Cody slams a chair into Archer’s face, and Archer goes for the Blackout. Cody escapes and then Roberts holds Archer back and pulls him out of the ring.

The announcers run down the card for tonight’s show.

A video hype package foe AEW’s Tag Team Division airs.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent) (w/Orange Cassidy) vs. Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) (w/Marko Stunt)
Jungle Boy and Taylor start the match with a lock-up. Jungle Boy takes Taylor down with a side-headlock take down, but Taylor gets to his feet. Jungle Boy takes Taylor down again, but Taylor comes back and drops Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy gets a roll-up for two, and then they exchange arm drags. Trent and Luchasaurus tag in. Luchasaurus tosses Trent across the ring a few times, but Trent comes back with a few chops. Luchasaurus takes Trent down with a chop, but Trent comes back with forearm shots and another chop. Luchasaurus tosses Trent to the mat again and takes in Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy delivers a few chops, but Trent comes back with a side suplex. Trent puts Jungle Boy up top and Taylor tags in. Jungle Boy comes back with a dropkick to Trent and then Luchasaurus takes Taylor to the outside. Jungle Boy runs the ropes, but Trent takes him down. Trent goes for a dive, but Luchasaurus catches him. Taylor comes back and he and Trent double suplex Luchasaurus to the floor. Jungle Boy dives and takes out Taylor and Trent as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Trent takes down Luchasaurus with a Spear in the ring. Taylor and Jungle Boy tag in and exchange shots. Taylor sends Jungle Boy off the ropes, but Jungle Boy takes him down with a clothesline. Taylor comes back with a knee strike, and then Luchasaurus takes Taylor out with the Question Mark Kick. Trent gets into the ring and takes out Luchasaurus. Rey Fenix runs out and takes out Cassidy and then MJF slams Jungle Boy into the ring post. Taylor takes out Jungle Boy with a pile-driver and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Best Friends
-After the match, Wardlow comes out and runs over Marko Stunt with a shoulder tackle on the floor.

Jon Moxley is shown arriving to the arena, and storms right past Dave Marquez, who was wanting an interview.

Match #2 – Four-Way Match: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Penelope Ford (w/Kip Sabian) vs. Kris Statlander
Ford and Statlander brawl, as do Baker and Shida. Baker slams Shida into the mat and slams her face into the mat. She puts Shida’s mouth on the bottom rope and tries to stomp, but Statlander stops her. Statlander and Shida deliver a double back-breaker to Baker, but Ford comes back. Ford and Statlanderbrawl to the floor and Shida and Ford battle in the ring. Baker drops Shida with a Slingblade and goes for Lockjaw, but Statlander comes back and pulls Baker to her feet. Ford comes back and kicks Baker in the face and drops Statlander with a DDT. Ford goes for the cover, but Statlander kicks out. Baker takes Ford down and then grinds her boot in Statlander’s face. Ford goes for the cover, but Statlander kicks out. Baker gets sent to the floor and then Statlander comes back and slams Ford to the floor. Statlander goes for the cover, but Shida breaks it up. Baker comes back, but Shida gets her up top. Statlander suplexes Baker and Shida to the mat and then Ford takes Statlander down. All four women are down in the ring as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Statlander and Shida are exchanging shots in the ring. Statlander goes for the Big Bang Theory, but Baker kicks her in the head. Baker drops Statlander with a Canadian Destroyer, and then Ford drops Baker with a cutter. Ford goes for the cover, but Shida breaks it up. Baker comes back and drops Ford with a neck-breaks. Statlander slams Baker to the mat and goes for the cover, but Baker kicks out. Shida comes back and trips Statlander in the corner. Shida suplexes Ford onto Statlander. Baker comes back and kicks Statlander in the face, and Ford takes Shida down with a missile dropkick. Ford goes for the cover, but Shida kicks out. Shida runs the ropes, but Sabian grabs her. Ford charges and then makes out with Sabian. Shida kicks Sabian to the floor and takes Ford down with a Falcon Arrow. Shida goes for the cover, but Statlander breaks it up. Ford takes Statlander down with a Poison-tana and then Baker slams Statlander into the ring post. Shida delivers a back-breaker to Ford and Baker applies the Lockjaw to Statlander on the floor. Shida delivers a knee strike to Ford and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Hikaru Shida

A promo from Pineapple Pete airs. He says he has been known as Suge D for sixteen years, but Chris Jericho doesn’t respect that name. He says ever since Jericho called him Pineapple Pete, life has been sweet. Pete says he throws hands, and there will be no more insults tonight.

Back from the break, it is confirmed that Nyla Rose will defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Hikaru Shida on Saturday, May 23rd at Double or Nothing.

Match #3 – Tag Team Match: Kenny Omega and Matt Hardy vs. Santana and Ortiz
Santana and Ortiz attack Omega during his entrance and double team him in the ring. Hardy makes his way out and bites Santana on the stage. Hardy tosses Santana into the tunnel and goes after Ortiz. Santana comes back and the bell rings. Hardy tosses Santana to the floor, but Santana slams him into the barricade. Omega and Ortiz fight in the ring, and Omega delivers a chop and kicks Ortiz in the face. Ortiz comes back and rakes Omega’s back and tags in Santana. Santana and Ortiz double team Omega, but he comes back and takes both of them down with a crusher. Hardy tags in and he and Omega double team Santana and then Ortiz. Hardy delivers a right hand to Santana, and then follows up with a back elbow and a Side Effect. Hardy connects with a leg drop and goes for the cover, but Santana kicks out. Hardy slams Santana into Omega’s boot and tags Omega in. Omega chops Santana in the corner and then delivers a series of right hands. Santana comes back with an elbow shot, but Omega delivers one of his own.
Omega knocks Ortiz to the floor, and then Santana sends Omega to the floor. Omega takes Ortiz down and delivers a right hand to Santana. Ortiz trips up Omega on the apron and slams him into the barricade as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Omega and Santana are in the ring. Santana chops Omega against the ropes and takes him down. Santana applies a Boston Crab,and then Ortiz tags in and applies a Camel Clutch to Omega as well. Ortiz sits down on Omega’s back and pokes him in the eye. Ortiz stands on Omega’s throat, but Omega comes back with a few shots. Ortiz takes back with a poke to the eye again and takes Omega down. Santana tags in and stomps on Omega. Santana applies an abdominal stretch and tags in Ortiz. Santana and Ortiz double suplex Omega to the mat and Ortiz goes for the cover, but Omega kicks out. Omega comes back and they exchange forearm shots. Ortiz rakes Omega’s chest, but Omega takes him down with a Snap Dragon Suplex. Santana and Hardy tag in and Hardy beats Santana to the mat. Hardy drops Santana with a clothesline and then drops him with the Side Effect. Hardy goes for the cover, but Santana kicks out. Hardy takes Santana down again, but Ortiz comes back and helps Santana.
Santana takes Hardy down with a dive on the floor, but Omega comes back with a dive onto Santana. Hardy gets back into the ring, and Omega tosses Santana back in. Ortiz comes back and they go for the Street Sweeper on Omega, but Omega dodges it. Hardy tags in and applies a butterfly submission on Ortiz. Sammy Guevara comes out wearing a neck brace, but he has a chair. Hardy drops Guevara with a Twist of Fate and then sets Ortiz up in the corner. Omega delivers a V Trigger to Ortiz and then Hardy slams Ortiz to the mat and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega

Taz tries to offer his help to Darby Allin again and says he doesn’t get it. Allin says Taz doesn’t get it, and says he placed third in amateur wrestling back in Ohio.

Allin, Orange Cassidy, Colt Cabana, and Rey Fenix are announced for the Casino Ladder Match at Double or Nothing.

Hikaru Shida is interviewed by Lexi Nair backstage. Shida says she is happy that she can challenge for the title, and she says she will beat Nyla Rose. Rose interrupts and hits Shida with a kendo stick and walks away.

Match #4 – Singles Match: MJF (w/Wardlow) vs. Lee Johnson
MJF drops Johnson with a clothesline and keeps him grounded. MJF delivers another clothesline and then slaps him across the face. MJF delivers a few more shots and throws Johnson to the floor. MJF kicks him in the ribs and power bombs him on the apron. MJF tosses Johnson back into the ring and delivers a shoulder-breaker. MJF locks in Salt of the Earth and Johnson taps out.
Winner: MJF
-After the match, MJF says he has a little ring rust and says he needs another tune up match. He says he saw that Marko Stunt had an open slot on his contracted matches, and signed both of their names on the dotted line and they will meet next week.

Announced for next week: Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fenix

Announced for Double or Nothing: Best Friends vs. Private Party in a number one contender’s match, which will happen on the Buy-In, and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Kris Statlander.

Match #5 – Singles Match: Chris Jericho (w/Jake Hager, Ortiz, Sammy Guevara, and Santana) vs. Pineapple Pete
Jericho slaps Pete across the face, and Pete does the same to Jericho. Pete delivers shots to Jericho in the corner and connects with a back elbow. Pete sends Jericho to the other corner and delivers another back elbow. Pete goes for another elbow, but Jericho catches him with the Judas Effect and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Chris Jericho
-After the match, Jericho runs down The Elite. He says Adam Page is at home picking berries and The Young Bucks are stuck in California complaining about The Inner Circle. Jericho says they are going to give The Elite one more chance to get their shit together. He challenges them to a Stadium Stampede Match. He says the match will take place in an empty football arena at Double or Nothing. Vanguard-1 flies in and still has an Inner Circle shirt hanging from it. Jericho takes his shirt back and Vanguard-1 says The Elite has accepted the challenge. Jericho calls The Elite a bunch of idiots and asks Vanguard-1 if he wants to join The Inner Circle. He says the invitation is taken back and says they have a sixth member, Floyd the baseball bat. Jericho destroys Vanguard-1 with Floyd. Matt Hardy comes out of the tunnel and The Inner Circle leaves the ring. Hardy grabs what’s left of Vanguard-1 and breaks down in the ring as Jericho and Hager laugh on the floor.

Rose vs. Shida at Double or Nothing is now a No Disqualification, No Countout Match for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Footage of Mr. Brodie Lee and The Dark Order attacking Jon Moxley on last week’s show is shown. Lee left with the AEW World Championship.

Next week: MJF vs. Marko Stunt is official, as is a face-to-face interview with Jake Roberts and Arn Anderson. Rey Fenix vs. Orange Cassidy is made official, and Jon Moxley vs. 10 with Mr. Brodie Lee in his corner. Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara is made official as well.

Double or Nothing: Mike Tyson will present the AEW TNT Championship to the winner of the Cody vs. Lance Archer match.

Match #6 – Singles Match: Christopher Daniels vs. Mr. Brodie Lee (w/10)
Lee connects with a back elbow, but Daniels smacks him in the face. Lee drives a knee into Daniels’s midsection and connects with a right hand. Daniels comes back for a cross-body, but Lee catches him and slams him to the mat. Lee tosses Daniels to the floor and chops him against the barricade. Lee connects with an uppercut and tosses him back into the ring. Daniels kicks Lee in the face and takes him out with a dive. Daniels connects with an Arabian Moonsault and tosses Lee back into the ring. Daniels goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Lee comes back and takes Daniels to the corner. Lee delivers a series of elbows and then drops Daniels with a back body drop. Lee goes for the cover, but Daniels kicks out. Lee takes Daniels down in the corner and chokes him with his boot. Lee stomps on Daniels and drops him with a back elbow. Lee stands on Daniels’s head and drops him with a sidewalk slam. Lee goes for the cover, but Daniels kicks out as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Lee takes Daniels down with a superkick. Lee goes for the cover, but Daniels kicks out. Lee sends Daniels off the ropes, but Daniels counters with a DDT. Daniels delivers a few forearms and then connects with an enzuigiri. Daniels takes Lee down with a Frankensteiner as Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky jump the barricade and attack 10 at ringside. Daniels comes back and locks in the Koji Clutch, but more members of The Dark Order get into the ring. Colt Cabana joins Kazarian and Sky and beat down the members. Daniels plants Lee with Angel’s Wings and goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Daniels goes for the Angel’s Wings again, but Lee blocks it and kicks him in the midsection. Daniels comes back with the Best Moonsault Ever and goes for the cover, but Lee kicks out. Daniels kicks Lee in the face and goes up top, but Lee counters with a power bomb. Lee drops Daniels with the discus lariat and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Mr. Brodie Lee
-After the match, one of the Dark Order members gives Lee the AEW World Champion, but Jon Moxley comes to the ring area. He takes out the Dark Order members and drops one of them with the Paradigm Shift as Lee and 10 walk out with the belt. Moxley says he does not suffer disrespect and Lee has made a mistake that he will pay for dearly. He says the AEW World Championship is more than a piece of metal, and Lee will find that out on May 23rd. He tells Lee to get ready for war at Double or Nothing.
