4/15/20 AEW Dynamite Recap

The show opens with a new promo from Jake Roberts. He says he thinks AEW came up with the TNT Championship just for Lance Archer. He says Archer is going to enjoy this, because each time he wins he will get a little bit closer to what they want. He says Colt Cabana is good, but not near good enough. He says Archer was pushed out of the United States and forced to go to Japan, and he is pissed off because of it. He calls Archer an animal.

Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho are on commentary, and they run down the card for tonight’s show.

Match #1 – AEW TNT Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match: Colt Cabana vs. Lance Archer
Before the match, Archer decks someone at ringside and gets into the ring. Archer drops Cabana with a right hand, but Cabana comes back. Archer takes Cabana down again, but Cabana comes back with a few chops. Cabana delivers a right hand, but Archer drops him with a shoulder tackle. Archer charges, but Cabana pulls the ropes down and Archer goes to the floor. Cabana delivers a right hand to Archer on the apron to keep him on the outside. Archer gets into the ring, but Cabana goes to the floor. Archer goes to the floor, but Cabana gets back into the ring. Archer gets back into the ring, and Cabana meets him with chops. Cabana applies a wrist-lock, but Archer sends him into the corner. Archer charges, but Cabana moves. Cabana charges now, but Archer catches him and slams him to the mat. Archer goes for the cover, but Cabana kicks out. Archer stomps on Cabana and rakes his eyes in the ropes. Archer slams Cabana in the corner, but Cabana turns it around and delivers a few chops.
Archer comes back and drops Cabana with a clothesline. Archer delivers some clubbing shots to the chest and chops him in the corner. Archer delivers right hands in the corner and puts his knee in Cabana’s face. Archer kicks Cabana in the head and tells Cabana to hit him. Cabana does, but Archer drops him with a right hand. Archer connects with a splash and goes for the cover, but Cabana kicks out. Archer delivers another right hand on the floor as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Archer drops Cabana with a kick to the face. Archer slaps Cabana a few times, but Cabana fights back. Archer punches Cabana in the midsection and clotheslines him in the corner. Archer comes off the ropes, but Cabana moves. Cabana kicks Archer in the chest and delivers an elbow shot to the head. Cabana takes Archer down with a hurricanrana and connects with a hip attack in the corner. Cabana comes off the ropes with a splash and goes for the cover, but Archer kicks out. Cabana delivers a few right hands and then delivers another elbow. Cabana runs the ropes, but Archer takes him down with a Pounce. Archer delivers a choke slam and charges in the corner, but Cabana counters with an elbow strike. Archer comes back and drops Cabana with the Blackout and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Lance Archer

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. goes over the rules of being a good role model. Rule one is to always fight fair, unlike Hikaru Shida did to her last week. Baker is in action up next.

Back from the break, Taz breaks down Jake Hager’s arm triangle submission.

Match #2 – Singles Match: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Cassandra Golden
Baker kicks Golden in the knee and then delivers a superkick. Baker taunts Golden and then chokes her over the ropes. Baker puts Golden’s mouth on the ropes and then stomps on her head and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.

A vignette for AEW Double or Nothing airs. The pay-per-view will be on Saturday, May 23rd.

An edition of “The Bubbly Bunch” airs. Santana talks about The Young Bucks and says they wrecked them. Ortiz agrees and they continue to insult the Bucks. Sammy Guevara talks about Matt Hardy and says he doesn’t even know what version of Hardy they are on these days. Jake Hager says he would punish Kenny Omega and would choke out the entire Elite. He says he will beat the shit out of Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho says Hager is exactly right. He calls Adam Page an idiot and says he has been missing for weeks. He says The Inner Circle will kick the crap out of The Elite whenever Blood and Guts takes place.

Match #3 – Singles Match: Sammy Guevara vs. Suge D
Guevara takes D down with a waist-lock take down and then taunts him. They lock up and Guevara backs D into the corner. Guevara applies a side headlock, but D gets free and applies a wrist-lock. D smacks Guevara in the chest and takes him down with an arm drag. Guevara comes back with a knee strike and clubs him across the back. Guevara drops D to the floor and then gets him back into the ring. Guevara takes D down with a suplex and goes for the cover, but D kicks out. Guevara chokes D over the ropes and then kicks the ropes into D’s throat. Guevara kicks D in the face and then squats when D on his shoulders. Guevara slams D to the mat and goes for the cover, but D kicks out. Guevara delivers a knee strike and delivers a chop. D comes back with a quick roll-up, but Guevara kicks out and drops D with a clothesline. Guevara stands on D’s chest and goes for the cover, but D kicks out. Guevara delivers a chop and sends D to the corner. Guevara charges, but D moves. D comes back with a few chops and body shots.
D delivers a knee strike and an uppercut. D goes for a suplex, but Guevara comes back with a knee strike and then knees D in the face again and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Sammy Guevara
-After the match, Guevara says that was light work for a Spanish God. He says he can go two or three more rounds. He says he is going to beat the shit out of Darby Allin in the first round of the AEW TNT Championship Tournament. He attacks D after the match and stomps him on the mat, but Allin rushes out for the save as Guevara leaves the ring.

Match #4 – Singles Match: Chuck Taylor (w/Orange Cassidy) vs. Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford)
They lock up and Taylor applies a wrist-lock. Sabian turns it into one of his own, but Taylor counters right back. Taylor takes Sabian down, but Sabian turns it into a head-scissors hold. Taylor gets free and takes Sabina down with a front face-lock. Taylor turns it into a side headlock and then drops Sabian with a shoulder tackle. Taylor takes Sabian down again and applies a single-leg Boston Crab, but Sabian makes it to the ropes. Sabian goes to the floor, and Taylor follows. Sabian gets back into the ring and delivers an enzuigiri to Taylor. Sabian stomps on Taylor and sends him to the corner. Sabian charges, but Taylor kicks him in the head. Taylor goes for the cover, but Sabian kicks out. Taylor chops Sabian in the corner a few times and then charges, but Sabian sends him to the apron. Sabian knees Taylor in the face and goes for a dive, but Taylor dodges and slams Sabian onto the apron. Taylor gets Sabian back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Sabian kicks out.
Taylor goes for a moonsault, but Sabian dodges it. Sabian delivers a missile dropkick and goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out. Sabian sends Taylor to the corner and delivers an uppercut. Sabian delivers an enzuigiri and then kicks Taylor in the face. Sabian goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out. Sabian sends Taylor to the floor and Ford stomps on him and delivers another kick. Ford smacks Taylor in the back as he gets back into the ring. Sabian goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out. Sabian delivers knee shots to Taylor’s back, but Taylor comes back with forearm shots. Sabian puts Taylor up top, but Taylor knocks him down. Taylor goes for a moonsault, but Sabian moves. Taylor drops Sabian with a power bomb and then delivers kicks and right hands. Taylor delivers a chop and then another power bomb. Taylor goes for the cover, but Sabian kicks out. Sabian comes back with a knee strike and a right cross. Sabian goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out. Sabian suplexes Taylor to the mat and goes for the cover, but Taylor kicks out again.
Sabian goes for a cutter, but Taylor catches him and then kicks him in the face. Ford gets on the apron to distract Taylor and then Sabian takes him down from behind. Cassidy gets on the apron now to distract Sabian and then Taylor kicks him in the midsection. Jimmy Havoc pulls Cassidy off the apron and slams him to the floor. Ford takes Taylor down with a hurricanrana and Sabian rolls him up and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kip Sabian

Footage of Cody defeating Shawn Spears to advance in the AEW TNT Championship Tournament is shown. Then, footage of Spears rebounding to get a win against Billy on last night’s AEW Dark is shown.

Match #5 – Singles Match: Shawn Spears vs. Justin Law
Spears takes Law down with a snapmare and then applies a waist-lock. Spears turns it into a wrist-lock, but Law counters with one of his own. Spears counters and takes Law down again and then gets in an amateur wrestling position. He tells the referee to count for Law to grab him, but Law rolls him up for a two count. Spears fires up and beats Law into the corner. Spears drops Law with a clothesline and then drops him with the C-4 and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Shawn Spears

Match #6 – AEW World Championship – Empty Arena No Holds Barred Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Jake Hager
Moxley backs Hager into the corner, but Hager counters and puts Moxley in the corner. Moxley shoves him away and they lock up again. Moxley backs Hager into the corner again and then takes Hager down. Hager gets free, but Moxley takes him down again and goes for an arm-bar. Hager gets free and delivers a right hand to Moxley. Moxley takes Hager down again, but Hager counters and they get back to their feet. Hager backs Moxley into the corner and delivers a series of knee strikes. Hager clotheslines Moxley in the corner, but Moxley comes back with chops. Moxley delivers elbow shots in the corner and takes him down again. Moxley goes for a STF, but Hager counters and knees Moxley in the ribs. Hager grinds his boot into Moxley’s rubs in the corner and then stomps on him. Moxley fights back and they exchange shots before Hager delivers a knee strike. Moxley turns it around and sends Hager to the floor. Moxley takes Hager out with a dive and goes for an arm-bar on the floor. Hager turns it around and delivers body shots as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Moxley and Hager are still on the floor and Moxley tosses hager over the barricade. Moxley slams Hager into the covered seats and goes for a pile-driver, but Hager counters with a back drop. Hager kicks Moxley in the face, but Moxley fires back with forearm shots. Moxley goes for a few knee strikes and then wraps Hager’s legs around the hand rail in the Figure Four. Moxley delivers chops, but Hager comes back and slams Moxley into the barricade. Hager drops Moxley throat-first over the barricade and drives his knee into Moxley’s chest. Hager tosses Moxley back to ringside and gets him back into the ring. Moxley comes back with a clothesline, but Hager delivers a knee strike and slams Moxley into the corner. Hager goes for the Hager Bomb, but Moxley moves and delivers a running knee. They exchange shots and then Hager delivers knee strikes. Hager drops Moxley with a gut-wrench power bomb and goes for the cover, but Moxley kicks out as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Hager clothesline Moxley in the corner a few times. Hager runs the ropes, but Moxley comes back with a clothesline of his own. Hager comes back and goes for the ankle lock, but Moxley rolls him up for a two count. Moxley drops Hager with a DDT, but Hager comes back with a front face choke. Moxley makes it to the ropes, but Hager delivers more shots. Moxley rolls to the floor and Hager grabs a chair. He hits Moxley with the chair and tosses Moxley and the chair into the ring. Hager puts the chair in the corner and tries to slam Moxley into it, but Moxley counters. Moxley charges at Hager, but Hager dodges and slams Moxley into the chair. Hager goes for the cover, but Moxley kicks out as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Hager is in control in the ring. He hits Moxley’s ankle with the chair and applies the ankle lock. Moxley gets free and drops Hager with the Paradigm Shift. Moxley applies a front face-lock, but Hager picks him up and gets free. They exchange shots and Hager connects with a running knee. Moxley comes back and hits Hager with the chair and then drops him with the Paradigm Shift on the chair and gets the pin fall.
