Lance Archer Captures IWGP US Title Vacated by Jon Moxley

Oct 14, 2019 - by James Walsh

Lance Archer is your new IWGP United States Champion.

Archer won the title at today’s NJPW King of Pro Wrestling event by defeating Juice Robinson. He was replacing champion Jon Moxley, who was forced to vacate the title after being unable to make the show due to travel issues brought on by the Typhoon Hagibis that hit Japan over the weekend.

New Japan announced hours before the show began that Moxley was being stripped of the title.

Archer vs. Robinson was originally announced as a singles match but Archer demanded that it be a No DQ match, like the title match that was previously scheduled. After the match, David Finlay returned to NJPW after being out for several months following shoulder surgery, and took Archer out.

This is Archer’s first run with the IWGP US Title. Moxley won it back in June by defeating Juice.

Zack Sabre Jr. was also unable to make the show due to the travel issues. Kevin Kelly reportedly made it to the arena an hour or so before the event began.
