Japanese superstar Riho became the inaugural AEW Women’s champion last night on the debut episode of Dynamite, defeating Nayla Rose in a match that ran exactly during the same time as the NXT Women’s title match between Shayna Baszler and Candice LaRae.

Riho, who is just 22 years old and made her pro wrestling debut in 2006, advanced to yesterday’s match by beating Hiraku Shida while Rose won the Casino Battle Royale at the All Out pay-per-view to earn her shot.

Following the win, Riho was going to get interviewed by Michael Nakazawa but a pissed-off Rose attacked both of them, first nearly dropping Nakazawa on his head on a botched power bomb attempt but then before she annihilated Riho, Kenny Omega made the save to prevent further damage to the new champion. Omega and Riho recently teamed up in a mixed tag team match.
