9/18/19 WWE NXT Recap

The show opens with a video promo from Triple H hyping up NXT’s move to two hours and to the USA Network. Mauro Ranallo then welcomes us to the history-making show. Beth Phoenix and Nigel McGuinness join him on commentary.

Match #1 – #1 Contender’s (NXT Women’s Championship) Fatal Four-Way Match: Bianca Belair vs. Candice LeRae vs. Io Shirai vs. Mia Yim
Belair and LeRae send Shirai and Yim to the floor and then Belair drops LeRae with a shoulder tackle. Belair drops LeRae with a military press and goes for the cover, but Yim breaks it up. Shirai comes back into the ring as Yim drops Belair with a DDT. Belair comes back and sends LeRae to the floor and drops her with an over-the-head throw. Yim takes out Belair and LeRae with a suicide dive, and then Shirai drops all three with a moonsault as the show heads to commercial.
Back from the break, a Tower of Doom suplex spot takes place in the ring and all four women crash to the mat. LeRae locks Shirai in an Octopus Submission, but Yim breaks it up. Belair slams Yim to the mat and then Shirai drops Belair with a back-breaker. LeRae drops Shirai with a German suplex and Belair slams LeRae into the corner and goes for the KOD on Yim. Yim counters with the Code Blue and goes for the cover, but Shirai breaks it up. Belair drops Shirai and Yim with a double Spear and then drops LeRae with the KOD. Belair goes for the cover, but Yim breaks it up.
Yim drops Belair with the Protect Yo Neck and then Shirai dropkicks Yim. Shirai delivers double knees to LeRae in the corner and goes up top. Yim shoves Shirai onto the floor and Belair. Yim climbs, as does LeRae. Yim goes for a power bomb, but LeRae counters with a reverse-rana. LeRae springboards onto Yim and gets the pin fall.
Winner and number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship: Candice LeRae
-After the match, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke surround LeRae on the stage. Baszler gets in LeRae’s face and holds the title in the air.

A vignette for Adam Cole airs. Cole is then shown giving Roderick Strong a pep talk backstage. The Velveteen Dream is backstage, as well, and is staring at himself in a mirror as the show heads to commercial.

The ideo hype package for the feud between Killian Dain and Matt Riddle is shown. They will battle in a Street Fight during the second hour on the WWE Network.

Match #2 – Singles Match: Sean Maluta vs. Cameron Grimes
Grimes immediately drops Maluta with a leaping stomp out of the corner and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Cameron Grimes

The video hype package for the feud between The Velveteen Dream and Roderick Strong airs.

A vignette for Damian Priest airs.

Match #3 – NXT North American Championship Match: The Velveteen Dream (c) vs. Roderick Strong
After some mat wrestling, Dream applies an arm-bar to Strong. Strong reverses and applies a hammer-lock. Dream gets free and drops Strong to the floor with a clothesline as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Dream drops Strong with a dropkick. Dream goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Dream delivers a double ax-handle and then takes Strong out on the floor. Dream gets Strong back into the ring, but Strong knocks Dream into the barricade. Strong drops Dream back-first onto the barricade and tosses him back into the ring. Strong throws Dream to the floor and slams him again. Strong slams Dream into the apron and delivers a kick to the midsection. Strong tosses Dream back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Dream kicks out. Strong applies a sleeper hold, but Dream counters into a roll-up for two. Strong backs Dream into the corner and delivers a few chops. Strong clubs Dream in the back a few times and applies a crucifix hold. Strong transitions into headlock, but Dream counters with a jaw-breaker. Strong comes back with a back-breaker and goes for the cover, but Dream kicks out. Strong delivers another back-breaker and goes for the cover, but Dream kicks out again. Strong goes for the Strong Hold, but Dream counters and goes for the Sharpshooter. Strong sends him to the floor and goes for a dropkick, but Dream counters and slams him into the steps as the show heads to a commercial.
Back from the break, Strong chops Dream repeatedly in the corner. Strong puts Dream up top and goes for a superplex, but Dream fights back and drops him with a series of right hands. Dream takes Strong down with a double ax-handle and drops him with a few clotheslines. Dream kicks Strong in the face and goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out. Dream goes for the Dream Valley Driver, but Strong fights out. Dream gets a roll-up for two and then drops Strong with the Dream-DT. Dream goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out. Dream goes up top, but Strong cuts him off. They exchange shots and Strong brings Dream to the apron. Strong kicks Dream in the face and drags him back into the ring. Strong delivers a knee strike and wraps Dream in the ropes. Strong delivers forearm shots and then a back-breaker. Strong slams Dream to the mat and goes for the cover, but Dream kicks out. Strong locks in the Strong Hold, but Dream makes it to the ropes. Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly come to ringside.
Strong and Dream exchange shots and Dream drops him with a back body drop. Strong drops Dream with a drop toe hold and Dream hits the referee. Dream drops Strong with a Dream Valley Driver, but Strong comes back with a superkick and the End of Heartache. Strong goes for the cover, but Dream kicks out. Dream hits the Dream Valley Driver, but Cole gets on the apron. Cole delivers a superkick and Strong hits the End of Heartache and gets the pin fall.
Winner and new NXT North American Champion: Roderick Strong

Match #4 – Singles Match: Pete Dunne vs. Arturo Ruas
Ruas drops Dunne to the mat, but Dunne comes back with a front face-lock. Ruas turns it into a waist-lock, but Dunne backs him into the ropes. Ruas connects with a knee strike and takes Dunne down, but Dunne comes back and goes for an arm-breaker. Ruas gets free and they exchange right hands. Ruas applies a head-and-arm choke, but Dunne counters and stomps on Ruas’ feet. Dunne drops Ruas with a clothesline and begins joint manipulation on his fingers. Dunne stomps on Ruas’ arm and goes for it a second time, but Ruas dodges it. Ruas delivers palm strikes and then a knee. Ruas kicks Dunne in the face and delivers forearm shots on the mat. Ruas goes for the cover, but Dunne kicks out. Ruas slams Dunne’s hand to the mat and stomps on it. Ruas kicks Dunne in the chest a few times, but Dunne comes back with palm strikes. Ruas kicks Dunne in the leg and takes him down. Ruas goes for another kick, but Dunne grabs his foot and manipulates his toes. Dunne drops Ruas with a dragon screw leg-whip.
They exchange shots and then Dunner delivers an ensuigiri and a German suplex. Dunne kicks Ruas in the face and goes for the cover, but Ruas kicks out. Dunne kicks Ruas in the head and drops him with the X Plex. Dunne goes for the cover, but Ruas kicks out. Dunne stomps on Ruas repeatedly and goes for a triangle submission, but Ruas gets free and kicks Dunne in the head. Ruas drops Dunne with a German suplex and goes for the cover, but Dunne kicks out. Dunne comes back with a kick, but Ruas drops him with a knee strike. Ruas goes for a dropkick, but Dunne dodges and delivers an enzuigiri. Dunne goes for the triangle again and then manipulates Ruas’ fingers and Ruas taps out.
Winner: Pete Dunne

Later tonight, Lio Rush returns to take on Oney Lorcan. The winner will become the number one contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

A vignette for Dakota Kai airs. She returns to action next week.

Match #5 – Singles Match: Xia Li vs. Aliyah (w/Vanessa Borne)
Li applies a side headlock and takes Aliyah down. Aliyah comes back and delivers a kick, but Li delivers a jaw-breaker. Li drops Aliyah with a forearm and then a dropkick. Li kicks Aliyah in the chest a few times and then delivers a spin kick to the head. Li trips Aliyah and drops down onto her with a tornado kick and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Xia Li

Kushida is in action up next.

Denzel DeJournette gets in the ring, but Imperium appears and takes him out. Alexander Wolfe, Fabian Aichner, and Marcel Barthel triple-team DeJournette and beat him down. Walter comes out after the beat down. He says they are here to restore order to NXT. Kushida comes out and takes out Aichner, Wolfe, and Bartel, but Walter drags him into the ring. Kushida gets the upperhand and escapes Imperium.

Match #6 – #1 Contender’s (WWE Cruiserweight Championship) Match: Oney Lorcan vs. Lio Rush
Lorcan backs Rush into the corner and delivers a few hip attacks. Lorcan drops Rush with a Blockbuster and goes for the cover, but Rush kicks out. Lorcan goes for the half-and-half suplex, but Rush sends him to the floor. Rush drops him with a trifecta of suicide dives and tosses him back into the ring. Rush delivers a few forearm shots and drops Lorcan with a head scissors take down. Rush delivers an enzuigiri and goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out. Rush delivers a kick to the chest, but Lorcan comes back and takes Rush to the corner. Lorcan delivers a chop and then slams Rush into the opposite corner. Lorcan delivers an uppercut and then drapes him over the top rope. Lorcan delivers an uppercut that sends Rush to the floor. Rush gets back into the ring, but Lorcan drops him with a power bomb. Lorcan goes for the cover, but Rush kicks out at two. Rush fights back with body shots and then right hands to the face. Lorcan takes Rush down and applies a single-leg Boston Crab.
Rush turns over and kicks Lorcan in the face a few times. Lorcan comes back with a chop and then a scoop slam. Lorcan goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out. Lorcan delivers a few more chops and throws him into the ropes, but Rush comes back with a springboard Stunner. Rush goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out at two. Rush goes up top and goes for the splash, but Lorcan moves. Rush lands on his feet, but Lorcan goes for a power bomb. Rush gets free, but Lorcan grabs him again and delivers the power bomb. Lorcan applies the single-leg Boston Crab again, but Rush fights out and kicks Lorcan away. Rush goes for a kick, but Lorcan grabs his leg and locks in the single-leg Boston Crab again. Lorcan turns it into an STF, but Rush makes it to the ropes. Rush comes back and connects with a couple of kicks and then slaps Lorcan in the face. Lorcan fires up and slaps Rush a few times and then charges, but Rush drops him with a Spanish Fly. Rush goes up top and hits the Final Hour and gets the pin fall.
Winner and number one contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Lio Rush

The main event Street Fight between Riddle and Dain is up next.

Match # 7 – Street Fight: Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain
They brawl from the bell and go to the floor. Dain looks for weapons, but Riddle kicks him in the face. Riddle hits Dain with a kendo stick, but Dain sends him over the barricade. Dain hits Riddle with the kendo stick and then drops down onto him with a senton. They brawl backstage and then outside of the arena, Dain slams Riddle into a semi-truck trailer. Other NXT Superstars watch and then Imperium jumps in and beats down Riddle. The Street Profits and The Forgotten Sons also get involves and huge brawl erupts. Pete Dunne shows up, as does Danny Burch. Dain and Riddle come back to the arena as the other guys brawl out and follow them. Riddle and Dain get into the ring as the other guys brawl at ringside. Security gets into the ring and pulls Dain and Riddle apart. More guys join the brawl and the ring starts the fill up. The ring clears and then Dain takes a group of guys out with a suicide dive as the show comes to a close.
Match Result: No Contest
