5/8/19 WWE NXT Recap: Belair vs. Yim; Mendoza vs. Moss; Cole vs. Riddle

Tonight’s main event: Adam Cole vs. Matt Riddle. The opening credits roll, and then Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show.

Match #1 – Singles Match: Mia Yim vs. Bianca Belair
Yim applies a side headlock, but Belair drops her to the mat. Yim comes back with a head-scissors hold, but Belair gets free. They exchange arm-drags and go for simultaneous dropkicks, but stand at a stalemate. Belair takes Yim down, but Yim comes back with a dropkick. Yim trips Belair up and delivers another dropkick. Yim delivers a knee strike and then a Pele kick. Yim goes for a combo kick, but Belair shoves her into the turnbuckle. Belair stomps away on Yim in the corner and goes for the cover, but Yim kicks out at two. Belair applies a headlock down on the mat and then connects with a standing splash. Belair goes for the cover, but Yim kicks out at two. Belair delivers a forearm shot and slams Yim face-first in the corner. Belair goes for the cover again, but Yim kicks out. Belair shoves Yim to the mat, but Yim takes her down with a drop-toe hold.
Yim gets a roll-up for two and then locks in a guillotine submission. Belair counters out with a snap suplex and goes for the cover, but Yim kicks out once more. Belair applies a neck-wrench submission and then drops Yim with a shoulder tackle. Belair goes for the standing splash, but Yim gets her knees up. Yim drops Belair with a clothesline and a kick to the chest. Yim delivers a dropkick and then a cannonball in the corner. Yim applies the tarantula submission in the ropes and then connects with a knee strike. They exchange roll-ups and then Belair wraps her hair around the ropes for leverage and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Bianca Belair

We see footage from the WWE Performance Center. We see The Viking Raiders getting jumped by The Forgotten Sons. We see that the Raiders will return to NXT next week to address their futures in NXT.

We see more footage from the Performance Center, this time involving Marina Shafir, Jessamyn Duke, and Shayna Baszler being attacked by Io Shirai and Candice LeRae. Other trainers and wrestlers in the center rush the ring to pull them all apart.

Match #2 – Singles Match: Raul Mendoza vs. Riddick Moss
Moss backs Mendoza into the corner and grinds his forearm into his face. Mendoza applies a wrist-lock and takes Moss down to the mat. Moss massages his shoulder in the corner and Mendoza applies a side headlock. Mendoza delivers a few kicks and then an enzuiguri. Mendoza takes Moss down with a hurricanrana and then connects with a standing Shooting Star Press. Mendoza goes for the cover, but Moss kicks out at two. Mendoza comes off the ropes, but Moss catches him and delivers a fall-away slam. Moss spears Mendoza in the corner and then slams him to the mat. Moss goes for the cover, but Mendoza kicks out at two. Moss kicks Mendoza in the head and tries to pour water in his face. Mendoza slaps the bottle away and kicks Moss in the face. Mendoza connects with forearm shots and sends him into the corner. Mendoza delivers an enzuiguri and goes up top and connects with a springboard splash and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Raul Mendoza

Adam Cole and Matt Riddle are shown warming up backstage. The main event is next.

Footage of Kushida’s debut and victory over Kassius Ohno from last week is shown. He will be in action again next week.

Match #3 – Singles Match: Matt Riddle vs. Adam Cole
Riddle drops Cole with a waist-lock take down, and then another. Riddle goes for the Bromission, but Cole gets to the ropes and rolls to the floor. Cole gets back into the ring and connects with a back elbow. Cole applies a side headlock, but Riddle counters and applies a side headlock down on the mat. Cole gets to his feet, but Riddle drops him with a shoulder block. Riddle goes for the cover, but Cole kicks out at two. Riddle drops Cole with three gut-wrench suplexes. Riddle charges Cole in the corner, but Cole moves and pulls Riddle to the mat. Cole drives his knee into Riddle’s back and then applies a head-scissors hold. Riddle backs into a cover, but Cole kicks out at two. Cole drops Riddle with a clothesline and then slams him into the corner. Cole beats Riddle down with forearm shots and then drops him with a neck-breaker.
Cole locks in a dragon sleeper, but Riddle gets free. Cole takes him down with a back elbow, but Riddle comes back with palm strikes across the chest. Riddle delivers a few German suplexes and releases the last one. Riddle delivers more palm strikes and then pump kicks Cole into the corner. Riddle delivers a forearm in the corner and connects with an exploder suplex. Riddle delivers a penalty kick and goes for the cover, but Cole kicks out at two. Riddle delivers another German suplex and goes for the cover, but Cole kicks out at two. Cole backs Riddle into the corner, but Riddle comes back with a slap across the chest. Cole comes back with a kick and slams Riddle to the mat and goes for the cover, but Riddle kicks out at two. Riddle comes back with a knee strike, but Cole comes back with a back-stabber. Cole goes for the cover, but Riddle kicks out at two.
They exchange shots on the mat and get to their feet. Cole stomps on Riddle’s foot and goes for the superkick, but Riddle dodges and applies an ankle lock. Cole rolls through, but Riddle locks in the Bromission. Cole counters with a roll-up, but Riddle kicks out. Riddle delivers a fisherman’s buster, but Cole comes back with a neck-breaker over his knee. Cole goes for the cover, but Riddle kicks out at two. Riddle comes back with slaps across the chest, but Cole counters. Cole goes for the Canadian Destroyer, but Riddle blocks it. They dodge strikes and then Cole connects with a superkick and then delivers the Last Shot. Cole goes for the cover, but Riddle kicks out at two. Cole drops his knee pad and delivers an enzuiguri. Riddle comes back with a knee strike and the GTS. Riddle delivers a power bomb and a knee that sends Cole to the floor.
Roderick Strong comes to ringside and picks Cole up, but Riddle kicks Cole in the face. Cole gets back into the ring and delivers a superkick. Riddle reverses at two and locks in the Bromission and Cole taps out.
Winner: Matt Riddle
-After the match, Strong, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly get into the ring with Cole, but Riddle gets out. Cole and Strong argue a bit as O’Reilly and Fish get in between them.
