3/13/19 WWE NXT Recap: Dusty Classic Semifinals; Belair vs. Shirai

NXT opens with a video hype package for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament Semifinals, featuring Aleister Black and Ricochet vs. #DIY and Moustache Mountain vs. The Forgotten Sons. The opening credits then roll, and Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show. We see that Bianca Belair and Io Shirai will go one-on-one later tonight, and the winner will challenge Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver: New York.

Match #1 – Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament Semifinal Match: Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) vs. The Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake) (w/Jaxson Ryker)
Blake and Bate start the match and Blake applies a wrist-lock. Bate turns it into one of his own, but Blake takes him down with a power slam. Cutler tags in, but Bate takes him down with a snap suplex. Bate goes for the cover, but Cutler quickly kicks out. Bate applies a wrist-lock, but Cutler comes back with an elbow shot and stomps away on him in the corner. Blake tags back in and drops Bate with a neck-breaker. Blake goes for the cover, but Bate kicks out at two. Blake applies a Cobra Clutch, but Bate gets free and tags in Seven. Seven sends Blake to the floor and kicks Cutler in the face. Seven chops both men and then drops Cutler with a DDT. Blake comes back with a kick to the midsection, but Seven comes back with a side slam. Seven goes for the cover, but Blake kicks out at two. Seven delivers a chop and Cutler tags in. Cutler takes Seven down with a chop-block.
Cutler works over Seven’s knee and drops down on his knee from the ropes. Blake tags in and delivers a leg-drop on the apron. Blake goes for the cover, but Seven kicks out at two. Blake continues to work over Seven’s knee and then locks in a Figure Four. Seven turns over and reverses the hold, but Blake makes it to the ropes. Cutler tags in, but Seven comes back and they drop each other with a clothesline. Bate and Blake tag in and Bate takes control. Bate drops Blake with a back-body drop and then delivers a dropkick. Cutler gets back into the ring, but Bate delivers an uppercut. Bate delivers a double airplane spin to both guys and sends them both to the floor. Bate takes Cutler down with a suplex on the floor and then delivers a standing Shooting Star Press to Blake. Bate tosses Blake back into the ring and connects with a corkscrew senton. Bate goes for the cover, but Cutler breaks it up.
Seven tags in as Bate tosses Cutler to the floor. Bate and Seven deliver a clothelines/dragon suplex combo to Blake and Seven goes for the cover, but Ryker puts Blake’s foot on the rope. Bate goes over the top rope and takes out Ryker and Blake and then tags back in. Bate goes up top, but Cutler shoves him down into Ryker’s clothesline. Cutler tags in and he and Blake drop Seven with an inverted DDT/knee strike combo and get the pin fall.
Winners: The Forgotten Sons.

Backstage, Matt Riddle says he just interrupted Velveteen Dream last week to say hi and to get a closer look at the NXT North American Championship. Adam Cole interrupts him and calls him clueless. Cole says the NXT North American Championship will be back with him. Riddle says Cole is good and all and then challenges him to a match.

Ranallo runs down the card for the rest of the evening: Aleister Black and Ricochet vs. #DIY and Bianca Belair vs. Io Shirai.

Match #2 – #1 Contender’s (NXT Women’s Championship) Match: Bianca Belair vs. Io Shirai
They lock up and Belair applies a Full Nelson, but Shirai gets free. Belair drops Shirai with a shoulder tackle, but Shirai comes back with a dropkick that sends Belair to the floor. Shirai comes off the apron, but Belair catches her and tosses her into the steps. Belair tosses Shirai back into the ring and stomps away on her. Belair goes for the cover, but Shirai kicks out at two. Shirai comes back with a roll-up for two, but Belair drops her with a shoulder tackle. Belair delivers a standing moonsault and goes for the cover, but Shirai kicks out at two. Shirai comes back with a drop toe hold and then delivers the tiger feint kick in the ropes. Shirai delivers a springboard dropkick and then double knees in the corner. Shirai goes up top, but Belair cuts her off. Belair whips Shirai with her hair and goes up top.
Shirai climbs as well and slaps Belair across the face. Shirai delivers a Frankensteiner and goes for the moonsault, but Belair gets her knees up. Belair drops Shirai with a spear and Shayna Baszler goes the ring and attacks both women.
Match Result: No Contest
Baszler locks Belair in the Kirifuda Clutch, but Kairi Sane rushes the ring and goes after Baszler. Baszler locks in the Kirifuda Clutch. Shirai gets back into the ring and smacks Baszler across the face and sends her to the floor. Shirai checks on Sane, but Baszler gets back itno the ring and locks the Kirifuda Clutch on her as well. Baszler leaves all three women lying.

We take a look back at the match between Dominik Dijakovic and Keith Lee from two weeks ago, which ended in a double count out. We then take a look back to last week when they almost came to blows at the Performance Center. We see that they will go one-on-one next week.

We see Aleister Black and Ricochet warming up for their match backstage. The semifinal is up next.

We see Baszler backstage. She says all the women want a shot at her title, but she just proved that none of them deserve it. Cathy Kelley tells her that William Regal has made the decision that Baszler will defend the title against all three of them at NXT TakeOver: New York. Baszler walks away angry.

Match #3 – Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament Semifinal Match: Aleister Black and Ricochet vs. #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa)
Black and Ciampa start the match and Black drops him with a knee strike to the face. Black applies a standing arm-bar and Ricochet tags in. Ciampa applies a side-headlock and then kicks him in the face. Gargano tags in and takes Ricochet down. Gargano goes for the cover, but Ricochet kicks out. After some back and forth, Ricochet sends Gargano to the floor with a dropkick. Ricochet kicks Ciampa in the face and then he and Black sit down in the ring as Ciampa and Gargano look on from the floor. Ciampa pulls Black off the apron and distracts Ricochet. Gargano drops Ricochet with the slingshot spear and Ciampa tags back in. Ciampa stomps away on Ricochet and then catapults him into the bottom rope. Gargano tags back in and slams Ricochet to the mat. Gargano goes for the cover, but Ricochet kicks out. Ciampa tags back in and takes Ricochet down.
Ciampa taunts Black and keeps Ricochet grounded. Gargano tags back in and Ciampa slams Ricochet into Gargano’s boots. Gargano goes for the cover, but Ricochet kicks out at two. Gargano stomps down on Ricochet and Ciampa tags back in. Ciampa applies a side-headlock, but Ricochet fights back. Ricochet delivers an uppercut and goes for the tag, but Ciampa holds him back and tags Gargano. Gargano goes for the slingshot DDT, but Ricochet blocks him. Gargano delivers a clothesline and goes for the cover, but Ricochet kicks out at two. Ciampa tags back in and delivers a knee strike in the corner. Gargano tags back in, but Ricochet fights back men off and drops them with a neck-breaker/DDT combo. Black finally tags in and drops Gargano with shoulder tackles. Black takes #DIY down with a springboard moonsault. Black picks Gargano up, but Gargano counters with a knee strike.
Black sends Gargano to the apron and then knees him in the face when Gargano went for the slingshot spear. Ciampa gets invovles, but Black sends him to the floor. Blake delivers an elbow to Gargano, but Ciampa tags in and kicks Black in the face. #DIY goes for their finisher, but Ricochet pulls Gargano to the floor. Ciampa delivers a Tower of London to Black on the apron and Gargano tags in. Gargano drops Black with a slingshot DDT and goes for the cover, but Black kicks out. Gargano locks in the Garga-No Escape and Ciampa locks in an arm-bar in Ricochet. Ricochet gets to his feet and delivers a Death Valley Driver to Ciampa and onto Gargano. Ciampa tags in and notices that Gargano is favoring his knee. Ricochet tags in and they exchange strikes. Ciampa slams Ricochet to the mat, but Ricochet comes back with an overhead kick and all four men are now down.Black tags in and delivers Black Mass to Ciampa. Ricochet tags in and hits the 630 splash and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Ricochet and Aleister Black
-The final match between Black and Ricochet and The Forgotten Sons will take place in two weeks, on March 27th.
After the match, Candice LeRae comes to ringside and she and Ciampa check on Gargano and then help him up. They help him up the ramp, but then Ciampa goes to slam Gargano into the stage. Gargano stops and shows Ciampa his knee is fine. Gargano slams Ciampa into the stage and then kicks him in the face. Gargano and LeRae stand over Ciampa as the show comes to a close.
