2/5/19 WWE 205 Live Recap: Kanellis vs. Kendrick; Fatal Four-Way No. 1 Contender Main Event

The show opens with Drake Maverick announcing a Fatal-Four Way Elimination Match, where the new number one contender for Buddy Murphy’s WWE Cruiserweight Championship will be determined. The opening credits roll, and then Aiden English, Nigel McGuinness, and Vic Joseph welcome us to the show.

Match #1 – Singles Match: Mike Kanellis (w/Maria Kanellis) vs. The Brian Kendrick
They lock up and Kendrick applies a wrist-lock. Kanellis turns it into a headlock, but Kendrick counters into one of his own. Kanellis turns it around again, but Kendrick sends him off the ropes. Kanellis drops Kendrick with a shoulder tackle, but Kendrick comes back with a right hand and then clotheslines Kanellis to the floor. Kendrick goes to slam Kanellis into the table, but Maria blocks him and Kanellis takes control. Kendrick comes back with a kick to the midsection and goes for Sliced Bread #2, but Kanellis counters and slams him to the floor. Kanellis slams Kendrick into the ring post and gets back into the ring. Kendrick beats the count, but Kanellis keeps him grounded in the ring. Kanellis applies a rear chin-lock and then slams Kendrick to the mat. Kanellis delivers a basement dropkick that sends Kanellis to the floor.
Kanellis goes to the floor, but Kendrick slams him into the ring post. They both get back into the ring and Kanellis drops Kendrick with a clothesline. Kanellis tries to slam Kendrick, but Kendrick counters and locks in the Captain’s Hook. Kanellis makes it to the ropes, but Kendrick delivers a superkick and a dropkick. Kendrick goes for the cover, but Kanellis kicks out at two. Kendrick goes for Sliced Bread #2 again, but Kanellis counters and slams Kendrick to the mat. Kanellis goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Kanellis takes Kendrick up top and goes for the backpack stunner, but Kendrick rolls through for a two count. Kanellis slams Kendrick to the mat ans goes for a cover of his own, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Kanellis delivers a series of elbow strikes and then kicks Kendrick in the face.
Kendrick asks for more and Kanellis kicks him in the face twice more. Kanellis grabs Kendrick, but Kendrick counters and hits Sliced Bread #2 for the pin fall.
Winner: The Brian Kendrick

We take a look back to last week’s main event between Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami, which Tozawa won. We then see Ariya Daivari’s attack on Itami after the match. We see a promo from Daivari. He says he always had to be there for Itami and Itami blew it every chance. He says Itami never got the job done and he will get the job done himself instead.

We are reminded of tonight’s Fatal Four-Way Elimination Match featuring Cedric Alexander, Akira Tozawa, Lio Rush, and Humberto Carrillo. We then get promos from all four men before the match.

We take a look back at last week’s brawl between Noam Dar and Tony Nese, which resulted in Nese being indefinitely suspended. We then see Drew Gulak and Gentleman Jack Gallagher in Maverick’s office. He says they will not accompany Carrillo to the ring, because no one is escorting anybody to the ring. Dar walks in and says he is ready to get back into the ring. Maverick says they will discuss it next week, but Dar says he will face Nese next week. Maverick argues, but Dar says he will settle it in the ring or elsewhere. Maverick says Dar has the match and it will be a No Disqualification Match.

Match #2 – #1 Contender’s (WWE Cruiserweight Championship) Fatal Four-Way Elimination Match: Akira Tozawa vs. Cedric Alexander vs. Humberto Carrillo vs. Lio Rush
Tozawa, Alexander, and Carrillo go after Rush, but he dodges them all for a bit. They eventually catch him and Tozawa slams him into the announce table. Tozawa, Alexander, and Carrillo brawl in the ring and then Carrillo gets sent to the floor. Tozawa sends Alexander out as well and sets up for a suicide dive, but Rush trips him up. Rush takes out Alexander and then connects with a suicide dive of his own on Tozawa. Rush kicks Carrillo in the head and then delivers right hands. Rush knocks Alexander back to the floor and then drops Carrillo with a DDT. Rush goes for the cover, but Carrillo kicks out at two. Carrillo fights back with right hands and then connects with an enzuiguri. Tozawa drops Carrillo with a dropkick, but Rush catches Tozawa with a roll-up for two. Rush grounds Tozawa and stomps away on him. Rush delivers a kick to the face and goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out at two.
Rush climbs up top for the Final Hour, but Alexander cuts him off. Rush shoves Alexander to the floor and goes for the move, but Tozawa moves and kicks him in the face. Alexander gets into the ring and hits Rush with the Lumbar Check and gets the pin fall.
Lio Rush has been eliminated
Carrillo gets back into the ring and connects with a series of kicks to Alexander. Carrillo drops Tozawa with an arm-drag and then delivers an enzuiguri and a missile dropkick to Alexander. Carrillo connects with a moonsault and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Carrillo goes for a power bomb on Tozawa, but Tozawa fights out. Tozawa kicks Carrillo in the face and then Alexander drops Carrillo with a flying clothesline. All three men brawl in the corner, with Tozawa and Alexander on the apron. They begin to climb, but Carrillo gets involved with right hands to both. Tozawa and Alexander shove him down and then Alexander falls to the floor. Tozawa knocks Carrillo back to the mat and connects with the senton splash and gets the pin fall.
Humberto Carrillo has been eliminated
Alexander and Tozawa deliver forearm shots and then Tozawa locks in the Iron Octopus. Alexander fights out, but Tozawa locks it in again. Tozawa gets a quick roll-up for two, as does Alexander. Both men charge and deliver a boot to the face and they crumple to the mat in a heap. Alexander goes for the Lumbar Check, but Tozawa counters and delivers a few kicks and then a right jab. Alexander comes back with a back elbow and goes for the Neuralizer, but Tozawa counters with a snap German suplex. Tozawa goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Tozawa stomps away on Alexander and goes up top. Tozawa sets up for the senton splash, but Alexander rolls to the apron. Tozawa kicks Alexander in the face and goes for a suplex, but Alexander blocks it. Alexander slams Tozawa onto the apron and then delivers a Michinoku Driver. Alexander goes for the cover, but Tozawa kicks out at two. Alexander kicks Tozawa in the head and goes for the Lumbar Check, but Tozawa blocks it and delivers an inverted-rana. Tozawa delivers the senton splash and gets the pin fall.
Cedric Alexander has been eliminated
Winner and Number One Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Akira Tozawa

Buddy Murphy appears on the screen and says Tozawa gets a chance to stop the unstoppable at Elimination Chamber. Murphy says he is already setting his sights on WrestleMania and solidifying his legacy as the greatest cruiserweight of all-time and will not worry about Tozawa.
