12/12/18 WWE NXT Recap: EC3/Fish; Burch/Lorcan vs. Mighty; Yim/Gonzalez; NXT North American Title Open Challenge

The opening credits roll and Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show. They run down some of tonight’s card, including Mia Yim vs. Reina Gonzalzez where the winner will qualify for the Fatal Four-Way #1 Contender’s Match, and Ricochet defending his NXT North American Championship against a mystery opponent in the main event.

The Undisputed ERA’s music hits and the group comes to the ring. Adam Cole says 2018 was just the beginning for them and in 2019, they will be draped in championship gold. He says that is not a threat; it’s undisputed.

Match #1 – Bobby Fish (w/The Undisputed ERA) vs. EC3
EC3 goes after Fish, but Fish escapes to the outside. Fish gets back into the ring, but EC3 takes him down with a power bomb. EC3 clotheslines Fish to the floor and then brings him back into the ring. EC3 applies a trap hold, but Fish gets free and backs him into the corner. EC3 counters and delivers a few chops to Fish. EC3 tosses Fish across the ring and Kyle O’Reilly gets on the apron. EC3 goes after him, but Fish delivers a chop block to take him down. Fish pounds away on EC3 and delivers a few kicks. Fish works over’s EC3 leg and delivers a dragon screw leg-whip. Fish applies a standing heel hook, but EC3 kicks him away. EC3 charges, but Fish moves and then tosses EC3 across the ring with an exploder suplex. Fish goes for the cover, but EC3 kicks out at two. EC3 comes back and delivers a vertical suplex to Fish. EC3 connects with right hands and then a scoop slam.
EC3 delivers an elbow drop and takes the ERA members down from the apron. Fish comes back because of the distraction and takes EC3’s leg out again, but EC3 counters back with a roll-up for the pin fall.
Winner: EC3
-After the match, the ERA beats down EC3, but Heavy Machinery’s music hits and Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic rush the ring and make the save.

We see an interview with Io Shirai and Dakota Kai. Kai says they are not going to take Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir interfering in their business anymore. Shirai says they are not going to let them interfere anymore and Kai says they want them in a tag team match next week.

We take a look back to two weeks ago and see The Mighty beating down Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan after Lorcan and Burch defeated them in a tag team match. The two teams will meet in a rematch tonight.

Match #2 – Tag Team Match: The Mighty (Shane Thorne and Nick Miller) vs. Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan
Lorcand and Thorne start the match, but all four men begin to brawl. Lorcan and Burch send The Mighty to the floor and then Lorcan takes both of them out with a suicide dive. Lorcan tosses Thorne back into the ring and connects with a few uppercuts. Lorcan delivers a power bomb and then locks in the single-leg crab. Miller gets involved and Thorne takes advantage of the distraction. Miller tags in and clotheslines Lorcan in the corner. Miller delivers a spine-buster and goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out at two. Thorne tags back in and drops Burch with an elbow, but Lorcan takes control and tags in Burch anyway. Burch delivers a Thesz Press to Thorne and then drops Miller with an elbow. Burch kicks them back in the face and then drops Thorne with a dropkick. Lorcan tags back in and goes up top, but Thorne cuts him off with an uppercut. Miller gets into the ring and he and Thorne double-suplex Lorcan.
Thorne goes for the cover, but Burch breaks it up. Miller sends Burch to the floor and then tags into the match. The Might double-team Lorcan, but Burch breaks it up. Miller power slams Lorcan and Thorne cannonballs Burch in the corner. Miller goes for the cover, but Lorcan kicks out at two. Thorne tags back in, but Lorcan drops he and Miller with a double DDT. Lorcan slaps Miller and Thorne with chops and then sens Miller to the floor and tags in Burch. Burch and Lorcan deliver the assisted DDT to Thorne and Burch gets the pin fall.
Winners: Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan

We take a look back to last week’s episode when Aleister Black told Tommaso Ciampa that he is invoking his rematch clause for the NXT Championship, but was interrupted by Johnny Gargano, before Ciampa says they should finish their differences inside of a steel cage. We see that the match between the two is on for next week. We then see a promo from Gargano. He says his story with Black didn’t end in Los Angeles, because he never sinned. Gargano says he did nothing wrong and the ends justify the means. Gargano says Black was in the wrong place in the wrong time when he was attacked, and he is still in the wrong place at the wrong time. Gargano says he is not afraid of Blake and will do whatever he has to do to make sure this story ends the right way next week. He says he closes the book on Aleister Black next week.

We are reminded that Ricochet will defend his NXT North American Championship in tonight’s main event, but up next is Mia Yim vs. Reina Gonzalez.

We see a video hype package for Dominik Dijakovic. He will debut next week.

We see an interview with Shayna Baszler. She says it doesn’t matter who wins the Fatal Four-Way Match, because she will leave with the title and they will leave with a hospital bill. Shafir and Duke are with her and they accept the challenge from Kai and Shirai.

We see a tweet from NXT GM William Regal. He says Lacey Evans has qualified for the Fatal Four-Way match by defeating Xia Li this past weekend.

Match #3 – Singles Match; winner qualifies for the Fatal Four-Way Match to determine the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship: Mia Yim vs. Reina Gonzalez
Gonzalez tries to slam Yim to the mat, but Yim gets free and locks in a front face-lock. Gonzalez shoves her away, but Yim comes right back with the hold again. Gonzalez drapes Yim over the top rope and then stomps away on her. Gonzalez goes for the cover, but Yim kicks out at two. Gonzalez delivers a left hand and then a kick to the face. Gonzalez goes for the cover, but Yim kicks out again. Gonzalez applies a back-breaker rack submission, but Yim delivers elbow shots to get free. Yim sends Gonzalez into the ropes and then delivers a few chops. Yim backs Gonzalez into the corner and delivers a forearm. Yim adds some kicks in and then delivers Eat Defeat and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Mia Yim

We see Ricochet warming up backstage. His title defense is up next.

We see a promo from Aleister Black. He says he doesn’t feel anything concerning Johnny Gargano. He says Gargano is far beyond redemption and then only thing left is total annihilation in the form of the Steel Cage Match. Black says there won’t be any running away and Gargano will fade to black.

We see that the tag team match with Duke and Shafir vs. Shirai and Kai is official for next week.

Match #4 – NXT North American Championship Match: Ricochet vs. Tyler Breeze
Breeze sends Ricochet off the ropes, but Ricochet takes him down with a hurricanrana and follows it up with a dropkick. Breeze goes to the floor, but gets back into the ring quickly and goes for a quick pin. Breeze turns it into a single-leg crab, but Ricochet fights him off and delivers a back elbow. Ricochet drops Breeze with a clothesline and then kicks him in the face. Ricochet runs the apron, but Breeze counters with a dropkick and both men are down on the floor.
Breeze tosses Ricochet back into the ring and stomps away on him in the corner. Breeze sets Ricochet on the top rope, but Ricochet fights back with right hands. Ricochet kicks Breeze in the face and then delivers a dropkick as well. Ricochet delivers an uppercut and then sends Breeze into the turnbuckle. Ricochet connects with a kick and then a springboard elbow. Ricochet connects with the standing Shooting Star Press and goes for the cover, but Breeze kicks out at two. Ricochet goes up top and goes for a Phoenix Splash, but Breeze moves out of the way. Breeze connects with a few right hands and Ricochet comes back with uppercuts. Both men block each others moves and then connect with simultaneous cross bodies.
They exchange shots on the mat and then counter each others suplex attempts. Breeze finally connects with the Supermodel Kick and delivers a reverse-rana. Breeze goes for the cover, but Ricochet kicks out at two. Breeze kicks Ricochet in the midsection and delivers right hands. Ricochet fights back and kicks Breeze in the face. Breeze comes back with a knee strike and a step-up enzuiguri. Breeze goes for the Beauty Shot, but Ricochet catches him and slams him to the mat and gets the pin fall.
Winner and still NXT North American Champion: Ricochet
-After the match, Ricochet and Breeze shake hands and Ricochet walks up the ramp with his title.
