9/26/18 WWE NXT Recap: Sullivan in Action; Mighty vs. Profits; Sane vs. Borne; Ciampa vs. Dozovic Main Event

The opening credits roll and Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show. William Regal’s music hits and the NXT General Manager makes his way to the ring.

He says he has personally investigated the Aleister Black situation over the past month and he feels he is getting close to solving it. Before he can say more, The Undisputed ERA’s music hits and Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong come to the stage. Cole says Regal needs to stop playing Sherlock Holmes and start making sure the unprovoked attacks stop happening. Strong says they should not have to worry about the War Raiders stalking them. Cole says none of them even like Black and he isn’t important. Regal says it is interesting that they interrupted him while he was talking about the investigation. They gets into the ring and Cole asks Regal what he is implying. Cole says Regal is trying to change the subject and wants to make sure that the War Raiders go unchecked. Cole says Regal is also letting Ricochet slide and that he is ducking Cole for his rematch. Cole says he wants his rematch and he wants it right now. Regal says Cole never asked him for a rematch and he wanted Pete Dunne to roughen up Ricochet before he asked for a rematch. Regal says Cole cannot get anything past him and says he will not be getting his rematch tonight, but he can have it in two weeks. Regal also says Dunne will be in the match and it will be a triple threat. He then tells Strong and O’Reilly that they will defend their titles in three weeks against the War Raiders.

We see an interview with Johnny Gargano. We find out he returns to action next week and he says he feels good about it. Gargano says he has always been open and honest and he is still sorry that he didn’t win the NXT Championship and for the way he acted while he was going after the title. He says his mind is clear now and he is sick about crying and complaining. He says he will become the man he was always destined to be next week. He walks away with Candice LeRae, but Lacey Evans stops them. She insults both of them and LeRae goes after her, but Gargano holds her back as Evans walks away.

We see that tonight’s main event will be Tommaso Ciampa vs. Otis Dozovic in a non-title match.

We then see a video hype package for Lars Sullivan, who is in action next.

Back from the break, we see The Velveteen Dream in a photo shoot. He stops it and Cathy Kelley tries to get an interview. He says they have talked about he always steals the show and he is not going to talk about Johnny Failure, a man who is not here right now, or a man who attacked a man who is not here…the NXT Champion. Kelley asked if Dream is implying that Tommaso Ciampa attacked Aleister Black. Dream says he is not a snitch and says the writing is on the wall.

Match #1 – Singles Match: Lars Sullivan vs. Victor Orchant
Sullivan smashes Orchant down to the mat with a series of forearms and then delivers a power slam. Sullivan punches Orchant in the midsection and then smashes him in the corner. Sullivan tosses Ortiz across the ring a few times and then out of the ring. EC3 rushes the ring and attacks Sullivan.
Winner via disqualification: Lars Sullivan
-After the match, EC3 continues the attack and clotheslines Sullivan over the top rope. Sullivan tries to fight back, but EC3 keeps the advantage and sends Sullivan back to the floor. Sullivan smiles at EC3 and backs up the ramp as EC3 tells him to get back into the ring.

We see that the NXT Women’s Champion, Kairi Sane, will be in action later tonight, but up next we will see The Street Profits vs. The Mighty.

Back from the break, we see William Regal backstage. He says he has narrowed things down in the Aleister Black investigation, but he still needs answers. He hears a banging from inside his office and then Nikki Cross walks out. She says she needs a rematch with Biance Belair and Regal says he will take it into consideration. Cross says that she knows over and over again before walking away.

Match #2 – Tag Team Match: The Mighty (Nick Miller and Shane Thorne) vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford)
Dawkins drops Thorne with a right hand before the match and then starts the match with Miller. Dawkins clotheslines Miller with a clothesline in the corner, but Miller comes back with a knee strike and tags in Thorne. Dawkins takes both of them down with a running bulldog as Ford tags in. They go to the floor, but Ford takes them both out with a suicide dive. Ford tosses Miller into the steps and tosses Thorne back into the ring. Ford goes for the cover, but Thorne kicks out at two. Dawkins tags back in and he and Ford double-team Thorne for a bit. Dawkins tosses Thorne into the corner and then drapes him over the top rope. Thorne comes back after a distraction from Miller and delivers a dropkick. Miller tags in and he and Thorne double-team Dawkins in the corner. Miller delivers a back drop and goes for the cover, but Dawkins kicks out at two.
Thorne tags back in and tries to keep the advantage, but Dawkins gets away and tags in Ford. Ford takes Thorne to the floor and then drops Miller in the ring. Ford connects with an elbow, but Thorne distracts him and Miller shoves Ford into the ring post. Ford falls between the steps and the ring post and Thorne dropkicks the steps into Ford’s leg. Miller gets Ford back into the ring and works over Ford’s leg. Thorne tags back in and stomps away on Ford. Miller tags back in and they double-team Ford in the corner. They delivers a double side-Russian leg sweep and then Miller delivers a clothesline. Miller goes for the cover, but Ford kicks out at two. Miller applies a modified Figure Four as Thorne tags back in. Thorne smashes Ford into the corner, but Ford comes back and takes him down to the mat.
Miller gets into the ring, but Ford sends him to the outside. Ford and Thorne drop each other with a clothesline, but Thorne is able to get Ford with a jack-knife cover for the win.
Winners: The Mighty

We are reminded of tonight’s main event: Tommaso Ciampa vs. Otis Dozovic, and then see that Kairi Sane will be in action after the break.

Match #3 – Singles Match: Kairi Sane vs. Vanessa Borne
Borne grabs Sane’s pirate hat and puts it on and then kicks it out of the rring. Sane fires up and quickly drops Borne to the mat. Sane connects with an ax kick, but Borne comes back with a kick to the midsection. Borne delivers the Starry Night and goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two. Borne delivers forearm strikes against the ropes and then sends Sane back to the mat. Borne applies a rear chin-lock, but Sane fights to her feet. Sane backs Borne into the corner and then drops her with a DDT. Sane delivers ax handles and then delivers a spear. Sane delivers the Sliding D and then goes up top. Sane connects with the In-Sane Elbow and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kairi Sane
-After the match, Shayna Baszler makes her way to the ring. Baszler tells Sane to celebrate with the title while she can, because the clock is about to run out. Baszler says Sane did win in Brooklyn and it did hurt her, but she is not going to take that out on Sane right now. Baszler says she is invoking her rematch clause and she is going to drown Sane and take back the NXT Women’s Championship. Sane says Baszler can have her rematch at WWE Evolution. Baszler smiles and leaves the ring. Sane says she will beat Baszler again and holds the title in the air.

We see Otis Dozovic warming up with Tucker Knight backstage. We then see Tommaso Ciampa gearing up for the match as well.

We see an interview with Keith Lee. He says he is undefeated and limitless and he has his eyes on NXT gold. He walks into a room and we see Kona Reeves. Reeves mocks Lee for a bit and then officially introduces himself. Reeves says he knows Lee is new, but he needs to wait his turn. Lee says he is turning heads all around NXT and says Reeves is the man with the finest set of losses in NXT. Lee challenges Reeves to a match and says he will give Reeves the honor and the opportunity to bask in his glory.

We see that The Forgotten Sons will be in action next week. We also see that EC3 and Lars Sullivan will go one-on-one next week.

Match #4 – Singles match: Otis Dozovic vs. Tommaso Ciampa
They lock up and Dozovic drops Ciampa to the mat. Ciampa comes back with a kick to the midsection and then applies a side-headlock. Dozovic comes back with a shoulder tackle, followed by another. Dozovic tosses Ciampa to the floor but brings him right back in. Ciampa counters with a back elbow and comes off the ropes, but Dozovic catches him and slams him to the mat. Ciampa rolls to the floor, but Dozovic follows him. Dozovic catches Ciampa with a right hand and then delivers a forearm shot to the chest. Dozovic tosses Ciampa back into the ring, but Ciampa catches him. Dozovic keeps advantage and back drops Ciampa to the floor. Dozovic taunts Ciampa with the Caterpillar and then Ciampa tries to trip him up. Dozovic stands on Ciampa’s back and goes to the floor, but Ciampa turns it around and slams Dozovic into the barricade. Ciampa slams Dozovic onto the entrance ramp and gets back into the ring.
Ciampa beats Dozovic down on the floor and then knees him in the head. Ciampa goes for the cover, but Dozovic kicks out at two. Ciampa delivers another running knee and goes for the cover, but Dozovic kicks out at two again. Ciampa delivers a neck-breaker and then applies a sleeper hold. Dozovic backs Ciampa into the corner, but Ciampa applies the hold again. Dozovic drops down onto Ciampa to finally break the hold. Dozovic tosses Ciampa into the corner and then across the ring. Dozovic goes for a back drop, but Ciampa blocks it. Dozovic comes back with a clothesline and goes for the cover, but Ciampa kicks out at two. Ciampa rolls to the floor and grabs his title and walks away from the ring. Tucker Knight comes to the stage and blocks his path. Dozovic drops Ciampa with a clothesline and tosses him back into the ring.
Dozovic tosses Ciampa around the ring and then delivers a belly-to-belly suplex on the floor. Dozovic tosses Ciampa back into the ring and delivers an elbow drop. Dozovic goes for the cover, but Ciampa kicks out at two. Ciampa hides behind the ref and then rakes the eyes of Dozovic. Ciampa goes for the Fairytale Ending, but Dozovic counters with a power bomb. Dozovic goes for the cover, but Ciampa kicks out at two. Dozovic goes to the ropes, but Ciampa rolls to the apron. Ciampa grabs Dozovic and delivers the draping DDT on the apron. Ciampa grabs him again and delivers the draping DDT in the ring and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Tommaso Ciampa
