5/29/18 WWE 205 Live Recap: Gallagher/Kendrick vs. Lucha House Party; Alexander vs. Murphy for the Title

205 Live opens with a video hype package for tonight’s main event: Cedric Alexander defending the WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Buddy Murphy. The openings credits roll and Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson, and Vic Joseph welcome us to the show as we see Alexander and Murphy getting ready backstage.

Match #1 – Tag Team Match: Gentleman Jack Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick vs. Kalisto and Lince Dorado (w/Gran Metalik)
Kendrick and Dorado start the match and Kendrick drops Dorado to the mat. Dorado turns it into a head-scissors hold, but Kendrick counters into a wrist-lock. Dorado delivers an elbow strike, but Kendrick drops him with a shoulder tackle. Kendrick stomps away on Dorado, but Dorado comes back with a head-scissors take down and a dropkick. Kalisto tags in and splashes down onto Kendrick. Kalisto goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Dorado tags back in and clubs Kendrick on the shoulder blade. Dorado applies a side-headlock, but Kendrick gets free and Gallagher tags in. Kendrick and Gallagher double-team Dorado and Gallagher slams Dorado’s face into the ring apron. Gallagher goes for the cover, but Dorado kicks out at one.
Gallagher keeps control, but Dorado counters with a quick roll-up for a two count. Kalisto tags in and takes Gallagher down with a springboard senton. Kalisto takes Gallagher down again with a head-scissors take down and goes for a tornado DDT, but Gallagher gets free and tags in Kendrick. Kendrick takes Kalisto down from behind and then delivers cross face shots. Kendrick stands on Kalisto’s hand and slams him into the corner. Gallagher tags in and delivers a shot to Kalisto’s midsection and then delivers a back elbow. Gallagher goes for the cover, but Kalisto kicks out at two. Gallagher delivers a wrist-lock down on the mat and then slams him face first to the mat. Gallagher goes for the cover, but Kalisto kicks out at two.
Kendrick tags back in and delivers a kick to the face. Kendrick goes for the cover, but Kalisto kicks out again. Kendrick applies a rear chin-lock and then a modified abdominal stretch. Kalisto fights back and sends Kendrick to the floor. Dorado tags in and takes Kendrick down with a cross-body. Dorado knocks Gallagher to the floor and takes Kendrick down with clotheslines. Dorado delivers a chop and then a head-scissors take down. Dorado goes for the cover, but Kendrick kicks out at two. Dorado delivers the springboard stunner and then takes Kendrick out with a suicide dive on the floor. Dorado tosses Kendrick back into the ring and goes up top, but Drew Gulak, who was on commentary, knocks him to the mat. Kendrick locks in the Captain’s Hook and Dorado taps out.
Winners: The Brian Kendrick and Gentleman Jack Gallagher.

We take a look back at last week’s show, which saw Hideo Itami defeat Akira Tozawa in one-on-one action. We then see Buddy Murphy and Cedric Alexander warming up backstage.

We see a video with Mustafa Ali. He says Buddy Murphy is the hardest hitter on 205 Live, but he won’t be the one to take the title from Cedric Alexander. Tony Nese says Murphy has been unstoppable and is the better athlete and will get it done.

We see Dasha Fuentes and Drake Maverick backstage. Maverick says he is excited for tonight’s main event and he will be on the edge of his seat. Fuentes brings up TJP’s negative tweet from today, and he says he doesn’t play favorites and he is just a knock on the door away. He says the guys have to earn it in the ring, not on social media. Maverick hypes up Alexander and Murphy for doing just that. He says whoever wins the main event will have his full backing as the WWE Cruiserweight Champion.

Match #2 – WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match: Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Buddy Murphy
They lock up and Murphy applies a wrist-lock and takes Alexander to the mat. Alexander quickly gets to his feet but Murphy takes him down again and keeps the wrist-lock applied. Alexander gets free and trips up Murphy and they exchange quick pin attempts before a stalemate. Murphy goes behind with a waist-lock, but Alexander comes back with a head-scissors attempt. Murphy cartwheels and stays on his feet. Murphy does the same to Alexander, but Alexander lands on his feet as well. Murphy takes Alexander down and runs the ropes, but Alexander dodges and takes Murphy to the floor with a head-scissors. Alexander flips in the ring as Murphy slides back in and they are at a stalemate again.
Alexander delivers a dropkick and goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at one. Murphy backs Alexander into the corner and delivers kicks and right hands. Alexander sends Murphy to the apron and delivers an elbow shot. Alexander dropkicks Murphy into the announce table and then connects with a suicide dive. Alexander grabs Murphy, but Murphy trips him up and Alexander falls onto the announce table. Murphy slams Alexander into the barricade and tosses him back into the ring. Murphy kicks Alexander in the back repeatedly and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Murphy slams Alexander into the corner and kicks him in the back of the head. Murphy slams Alexander into the opposite corner and then kicks him in the back. Murphy stomps down onto Alexander’s face and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two.
Murphy drives a knee into Alexander’s back and applied a rear chin-lock. Alexander fights back, but Murphy drives a forearm into his back a few times. Alexander comes back with a forearm of his own, followed by an uppercut. Murphy comes back with a suplex attempt, but Alexander counters with a knee strike. Alexander drives his shoulder into Murphy’s midsection in the corner and goes for a springboard, but Murphy catches him with a kick to the face. Murphy goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Murphy drives his knees into Alexander’s back and then charges again, but Alexander counters with a superkick and both men are down.
Both men get to their feet and exchange forearm shots. Murphy goes for a kick to the face, but Alexander blocks him and delivers another elbow shot. Alexander kicks Murphy in the face and then connects with a suicide dive to the outside. Alexander takes Murphy down with a clothesline from the top and goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at two. Murphy tosses Alexander to the apron, but Alexander counters with a kick. Murphy comes back with a kick of his own and this time Murphy delivers the suicide dive to the outside. Murphy goes up top and goes for a stomp, but Alexander moves and slams Murphy to the mat with a Michinoku Driver. Alexander goes for the cover, but Murphy kicks out at two.
Alexander picks Murphy up and goes for the Lumbar Check, but his back gives out. Murphy rolls through and kicks Alexander in the face. Murphy delivers a running suplex and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Murphy and Alexander go to the apron and Murphy goes for a suplex, but Alexander blocks. Alexander kicks Murphy in the face and delivers the Flatliner on the apron and both men are down on the floor. Both men get into the ring at nine-and-a-half and they stare each other down. They exchange forearm shots and Alexander goes for the Neuralizer. Murphy catches him and delivers a DDT and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two.
Both men get to their feet and they brawl in the middle of the ring. Murphy kicks Alexander in the midsection, but Alexander comes back with an enzuiguri. Murphy drives a knee into Alexander’s face and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Murphy goes for Murphy’s Law, but Alexander rolls through and gets a two count. Murphy drives a knee into Alexander’s face and goes for the cover, but Alexander kicks out at two. Alexander comes back with the Nueralizer and then hits it a second time. Alexander delivers the Lumbar Check and gets the pinfall.
Winner and still WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Cedric Alexander.
After the match, we see highlights from the match and then Alexander goes to hug his mother at ringside as the show comes to a close.
