11/1/17 WWE NXT Recap: Cross/Conti, Aichner/Gargano, SAnitY/AOP for the Tag Titles

We see the NXT opening video, and then go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University where Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show.

We see that Drew McIntyre responded to Andrade “Cien” Almas’ challenge and William Regal made the match official for NXT TakeOver: Houston. We then see that McIntyre and Almas will have a contract signing later tonight. We are reminded of tonight’s main event: SAnitY defending the NXT Tag Team Championship against The Authors of Pain.

Match #1: Taynara Conti vs. Nikki Cross
Cross takes Conti down immediately with a cross-body. Conti gets away and goes to the floor, but Cross chases after her and pulls her down into the ring apron. Cross delivers forearm shots and then throws her back into the ring. Conti comes back with a kick to the side of the head and then slams Cross to the mat. Conti stomps away and then drops down onto Cross’ arm. Conti goes for the cover, but Cross quickly kicks out. Conti delivers a kick to Cross’ arm and then kicks her in the chest repeatedly. Cross comes back with a throat thrust and then a short-arm clothesline. Cross slams Conti into the turnbuckle and then sets her up top. Conti hangs in the tree of woe and Cross stomps away on her. Cross drops Conti with a reverse death drop and then delivers the swinging fisherman’s neck-breaker and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Nikki Cross.

We see Paul Ellering standing outside of The Authors of Pain’s locker room. We then see that Johnny Gargano will go one-on-one with Fabian Aichner up next.

Back from the break, we see that “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)” by Power Trip will be on the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Houston.

We see an interview with Mercedes Martinez from last week. She says she’s disappointed that she won’t be in the four-way a TakeOver: Houston. She says she won’t speculate on who will win, but she knows Ember Moon won’t win since Moon can’t win the big matches.

Match #2: Fabian Aichner vs. Johnny Gargano
They lock up and Aichner goes for an arm-bar. Gargano gets free and takes Aichner down with a drop toe hold and then applies a front face lock. Aichner comes back and puts Gargano on the apron, but Gargano comes back with a sunset flip and gets a two count. Gargano takes Aichner down with a head-scissors and then a dropkick. Gargano goes for the cover, but Aichner quickly kicks out. Gagrano goes for a cross-body, but Aichner catches him and slams him to the mat. Gargano comes back with a chop and then clotheslines Aichner to the floor. Gargano goes for another cross-body, bu Aichner catches him and slams him down onto the barricade as we head to a break.
Back from the break, Aichner has Gargano in a bear-hug in the ring. Aichner delivers an uppercut to Gargano, but Gargano comes back with one of his own. Gargano kicks Aichner in the face and then delivers a few short-arm clotheslines. Gargano spears Aichner through the ropes and goes for the cover, but Aichner kicks out at two. Gargano tries to suplex Aichner back into the ring, but Aichner blocks and slams Gargano down to the mat. Gargano comes back with a slingshot DDT and goes for the cover, but Aichner kicks out again. Gargano chops Aichner in the corner and then goes for the Lawn Dart, but Aichner counters with a forearm shot. Gargano comes back with a boot and goes for a cross-body again, but Aichner catches him and delivers a back-breaker and a power bomb. Aichner goes for the cover, but Gargano kicks out at two. Aichner delivers a few shots to the midsection and then a series of uppercuts. Gargano comes back with shots of him own, but Aichner drops him with another back-breaker. Aichner goes for the springboard moonsault, but Gargano gets his knees up. Gargano knees Aichner in the corner and then goes for the Gargano Escape, but Aichner counters and rolls Gargano up and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Fabian Aichner.

We are reminded of tonight’s main event: SAnitY defending the NXT Tag Team Championship against The Authors of Pain. We then see Drew McIntyre and William Regal looking over the contract in Regal’s office.

We see a vignette with Aleister Black. He says The Velveteen Dream has his attention. We then see that Black and Dream will go one-on-one at NXT TakeOver: Houston.

We see footage from early today of The Street Profits admiring someone’s car outside of the arena. Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss wal up and say it is their car. They tell the Profits to walk away and they bicker back and forth for a bit.

Drew McIntyre’s music hits and the NXT Champion makes his way to the stage. Andrade “Cien” Almas runs from the back and beats him down on the stage. Almas picks up the contract, signs it, and then slams it down onto McIntyre’s chest.

Back from the break, we see that “Play” by Marmozets will be one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Houston. We then see that the match between Drew McIntyre and Andrade “Cien” Almas is official for TakeOver: Houston. We are then reminded of the Fatal Four-Way with Kairi Sane, Ember Moon, Peyton Royce, and Nikki Cross to crown the new NXT Women’s Champion.

We see Peyton Royce and Billie Kay backstage earlier today. They run down the other three women in the match and Kairi Sane appears. She jabs an elbow at them and Kay freaks out as Royce wonders what she did it for. We then see that Sane and Kay will go one-on-one next week.

Match #3: NXT Tag Team Championship Match – SAnitY (Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe) (c) vs. The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar)
Young and Akam start the match and Akam backs Young into the corners. Young comes back with a right hand, but Akam backs into the corner again and Rezar tags in. Young shoves Rezar into the corner and tags in Wolfe. Wolfe delivers right hands and then tags Young back in. They double-team Rezar for a bit and Young goes for the cover, but Rezar kicks out at two. Young backs Rezar into the corner and Wolfe tags in. Wolfe delivers an uppercut to Rezar and kicks Akam on the apron, but Rezar comes back and slams Wolfe into the corner. Akam tags in a beats down Wolfe and goes for the cover, but Wolfe kicks out at two. Rezar tags back in and they double-team Wolfe for a bit. Rezar clubs Wolfe in the back of the head and then knees him in the chest. Akam tags in and stomps on Wolfe in the corner and applies a headlock as we go to a break.
Back from the break, Rezar is now the legal man against Wolfe and he applies a front face-lock. Wolfe drops to his knees for a bit, but fights back to his feet. Rezar ends Wolfe off the ropes and picks him up as Akam tags in. Akam comes off the second rope and slams Wolfe to the mat. Akam goes for the cover, but Wolfe kicks out at two. Rezar tags back in and drops Wolfe with a right hand. Rezar comes off the ropes, but Wolfe counters with a boot to the face. Akam tags in, as does Young. Young delivers a few right hands and then a flying clothesline. Young kick Rezar to the floor and then delivers a neck-breaker to Akam. Young goes up top and Wolfe delivers a German suplex to Rezar. Young connects with the diving elbow drop to Akam and goes for the cover, but Akam kicks out at two.
Wolfe tags in and takes Akam down with a clothesline. Young tags back in and they double-team Akam with a suplex neck-breaker combo, but Rezar breaks up the pin attempt. Wolfe kicks Rezar in the face, but Rezar comes back with a clothesline. AOP picks WOlfe and Young up and connects with the Super Collider and then the Last Chapter. The Undisputed ERA hit the ring and beat down AOP and the referee calls for the bell.
Winners via disqualification: The Authors of Pain; still NXT Tag Team Champions: SAnitY.
After the match, Undisputed ERA continues the beat down. Killian Dain rushes the ring, but ERA takes care of him as well. Roderick Strong comes to the ring and pulls the ERA armband out of his pocket. He puts it on and tells Cole, Fish, and O’Reilly to pick up Rezar. Strong turns on them and beats them down instead. AOP get back into it as Cole leaves the ring. AOP send Fish and O’Reilly to the outside as Strong and AOP are left in the ring. Strong throws the armband at Cole.
William Regal comes out and announces SAnitY vs. The Undisputed ERA vs. AOP and Strong in a Triple Threat Match at NXT TakeOver: Houston. Regal says it won’t be a normal Triple Threat Match, however, because there is only one match that can contain it, a match that hasn’t been seen in twenty years. Regal says there will be two rings, one cage, and it will be WarGames!
