AJ Styles on Vince McMahon Initially Not Being Sold on him; Says Vince Thought His Rumble Debut Reaction “Was a Fluke”

Former #WWE champion #AJStyles recently appeared as a guest on the E & C Pod Of Awesomeness with former heavyweight champions #Edge and #Christian. When the three discussed Styles’ debut, AJ revealed that wwe chairman Vince McMahon was initially not sold on Styles’ stardom.

“I think the reaction was unbelievable, I did not expect that. It was one of those things in WWE history, which will be forever there because that kind of reaction I didn’t expect; I don’t think anybody expected that, I definitely don’t think Vince expected that. I’ve heard stories that he said, ‘nobody’s going to know who this guy is, and you want him at No. 3?'”

Following his debut and the massive ovation for him, Styles claimed Vince continued to be skeptical of styles, claiming his reaction was just a “fluke”. Styles claimed that Vince remained not sold on him when he made his singles debut because he was not displaying a vicious, pitbull style he had envisioned for him.

“I think Vince thought it was a fluke. I had a match, a typical babyface match and Vince went ‘I have tons of guys who can have that match. Where’s this freakin’ pitbull, this attack dog’. Oh, you want that guy, I can be that guy.”

#Ryback famously claimed in a podcast months ago that McMahon had wanted him to squash styles at #Wrestlemania, which raised many questions as to that statements validity. While no one else has come forward to claim this to be true, more evidence is coming forward that proves McMahon’s initial skepticism of AJ Styles.
