7/5/17 NXT Recap: Ohno/Itami vs. SAnitY; Roode vs. Strong for the NXT Championship

The 400th episode of NXT opens with the video hype package for tonight’s main event match between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong, in which Roode will put the NXT Championship on the line. We then see the NXT opening video and then go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida where Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show.

They hype up tonight’s main event and then we see Strong arriving to the arena earlier today with his family.

Match #1: Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami vs. Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain
Ohno and Wolfe start the match. They lock up and Ohno backs Wolfe into the corner. Wolfe counters and slams Ohno into the turnbuckle. Wolfe goes for a kick, but Ohno counters with a forearm shot. Itami tags in and he and Ohno exchange kicks to Wolfe in the corner. Itami takes Wolfe down and drops a few knees to Wolfe’s chest. Wolfe comes back and sends Itami into the corner and charges, but Itami counters with a boot to the face. Wolfe comes back and take Itami down to the mat and tags in Dain. Dain keeps Itami grounded a we head to a break.
We’re back and Wolfe is back in the ring and he stomps away on Itami. Wolfe goes for a cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Dain tags in and avalanches Itami in the corner. Dain goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Dain club Itami across the chest and wrenches his neck down on the mat. Itami gets free and tries to get to Ohno, but Dain stops him and delivers a shot to his midsection. Itami comes back and takes Dain down and goes for Ohno, but Ohno is on the floor. Dain splashes Itami in the corner and Wolfe tags in. Dain and Wolfe run into each other and Itami suplexes Wolfe down. Ohno wants to tag in, but Itami won’t tag him. Itami takes Wolfe down, but Dain takes Itami down, and finally Ohno takes Dain down. Wolfe kicks Ohno to the floor and Itami kicks Wolfe in the face. Itami picks up Wolfe but Dain tags in. Itami hits the Go To Sleep on Wolfe, but Dain grabs Itami and slams him to the mat and gets the pin fall.
Winners: Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe.

We take a look at Ember Moon at the Performance Center earlier today. She is asked if she is ready to challenge Asuka again. She says she has been doing everything she can and she is ready to earn another chance. Ruby Riot interrupts and says it is her time. She leaves and Ember says the end result is Asuka, but anyone who wants to step in her way, she will take them on. We then take a look back at lat week’s Last Woman Standing Match between Asuka and Nikki Cross, in which Asuka retained her NXT Women’s Championship. We see a tweet from Asuka that says she is unstoppable, untouchable, and undefeated and that she will return to NXT when she has some real competition.

We are reminded again of tonight’s main event: Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship.

We see a video hype package for Drew McIntyre and then join him backstage. He is asked his thoughts on tonight’s main event. He says it will be a fantastic match, but the next time they have this conversation they will be talking about his NXT title match. He mentions the former NXT Champions and says everyone pointed at them as the guys to lead NXT and he has to join that lineage. He says it doesn’t matter if it’s Bobby Roode, Roderick Strong, or Killian Dain, all roads leads to the same destination, which is Drew McIntyre as NXT Champion.

We take a look back at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, and the fallout of #DIY when Tommaso Ciampa turned on Johnny Gargano. We then see that Gargano will return to NXT next week.

We see an interview with Billie Kay and Peyton Royce at the Performance Center. Royce says they feel hurt and Kay says they feel disrespected because no one gave Billie a present for her birthday except for Peyton. They storm off and we see Andrade “Cien” Almas arguing with the women (Thea Trinidad) that scolded him after a loss a few weeks ago.

We take a look back at a Mae Young Classic Qualifying Match between Bianca Blair and Aliyah, which was won by Blair.

We see that the main event between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong is up next.

We take a look at the video hype package for tonight’s main event. We see an interview with Strong backstage. He says victory is the only thing on his mind. Roode is now seen backstage and he says Strong ha been living a fairy-tale for the last few weeks and it ends tonight.

Match #2: NXT Championship Match – Bobby Roode (c) vs. Roderick Strong
They lock up and Strong backs Roode into the ropes. Roode applies a side headlock and takes Strong down to the mat. Roode taunts Strong, but Strong delivers a dropkicks. Strong goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at one. Strong sends Roode off the ropes and delivers another dropkick. Strong goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out again. Roode rolls to the floor, but Strong goes out after him and tosses him back into the ring. Roode catches Strong and stomps away on him in the ring. Roode kicks Strong in the midsection and sends him to the corner, but Strong leap frogs over Roode and delivers a back-breaker. Strong goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two as we head to a break.
We’re back and Roode connects with a forearm and then takes Strong down with a Blockbuster from the middle rope. Roode stomps away on Strong and then slams him into the corner. Roode delivers a right hand and then a chop. Strong delivers a chop of his own, but Roode counters with a kick to the midsection. Roode goes for a suplex, but Strong counters and delivers another back-breaker. Roode rolls to the floor and Strong dropkicks him through the ropes and Roode crashes down onto the entrance ramp. Strong chops Roode a few times, but Roode counters and slams Strong’s knee into the ring post. Roode kicks the ring steps into Strong’s knee and pins it between the steps and post. Roode tosses Strong back into the ring and goes to work on Strong’s knee with a knee bar submission. Roode takes Strong to the corner and beats him down to the mat and then drops down onto Strong’s knee. Roode drops elbows on Strong’s knee and kicks his knee out from under him. Strong fights back, but Roode takes his knee out again. Roode goes for a knee-breaker, but Strong counters with a roll-up and Roode kicks out at two. Roode comes back with a running lariat to take Strong down again a we head to a break.
We’re back and Roode continues to work over Strong’s knee. Strong kicks his way free and both men are down on the mat. Strong and Roode exchange right hands and Strong takes Roode down with a few clotheslines. Roode sends Strong into the ropes, but Strong comes back with a kick to the back of the head and a suplex. Strong charges at Roode in the corner, but Roode counters with an elbow. Strong stays on his feet and takes Roode down with a back-breaker. Strong goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Strong lifts Roode up, but Roode gets free and chop blocks Strong’s knee. Roode goes back to work on Strong’s knee, but Storng sends Roode off the ropes and rolls him up for a two count. Roode comes right back with the Glorious Spinebuster and goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two this time. Roode goes for the Glorious DDT, but Strong counters with the gut-buster. Strong goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Roode rolls to the floor and then goes up top, but Strong cuts him off with an enzuiguri. Strong goes up top as well and delivers a back-breaker to Roode on the top turnbuckle, but Roode rolls to the floor. Strong rolls Roode back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Strong lifts Roode, but his knee gives out and Roode delivers right hands to Strong. Roode fights Strong off and delivers the Glorious DDT and goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Roode gets to his feet and taunts Strong’s family at ringside. Strong kicks Roode into the corner and then delivers a running knee to the face. Strong slams Roode face-first to the mat and then delivers a back-breaker and gets the pin fall. Strong goes to hug his family as the referee waves off the pin fall because Roode’s foot was under the rope.
Roode knocks Strong down to the floor and delivers the Glorious DDT on the floor. Roode tosses Strong back into the ring and delivers another Glorious DDT and gets the pin fall.
Winner and still NXT Champion: Bobby Roode.
After the match, Roode rolls out of the ring with his title as Strong is still down. Roode back up the ramp as the referee checks on Strong in the ring Roode blows a kiss to Strong’s fiance and then Strong gets to his feet and stares Roode down as NXT comes to a close.
