5/17/17 WWE NXT Recap: Go-home Show for TakeOver: Chicago feat. McIntyre in Action, Ohno vs. Almas Main Event

We see Bobby Roode arriving to the arena earlier today, yelling at the guy who is helping him out. We then see the NXT opening video, and then go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida where Tom Phillips, Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show.

Match #1: Drew McIntyre vs. Sean Maluta
They tie up and McIntyre backs Maluta into the corner. The referee separates them and McIntyre lets Maluta walk out of the corner. They tie up against and mcIntyre backs Maluta into the corner again. The sequence repeats and Maluta slaps McIntyre. Maluta delivers a few chops, but McIntyre clubs Maluta down to the mat a couple times. McIntyre tosses Maluta across the ring and then suplexes him as well. McIntyre stomps on Maluta and then sens him to the corner. McIntyre charges, but Maluta counters with a boot to the face. Maluta takes McIntyre down with a Codebreaker and goes for the cover, but McIntyre kicks out at one. Maluta pounds away on McIntyre and tosses him into the corner. Maluta delivers a forearm shot, but McIntyre counters with a kick to the face. McIntyre tosses Maluta into the corner and pounds away on him. McIntyre drives a forearm into Maluta and goes up top. McIntyre takes Maluta down with an elbow shot. McIntyre delivers a headbutt and takes Maluta down with a running kick to the face and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Drew McIntyre.
After the match, McIntyre is asked by Kayla Braxton if Wesley Blake’s attention concerns him. McIntyre says it doesn’t concern him, but what would concern him would be if he didn’t have the attention of everyone in NXT. McIntyre challenges Blake to a match on next week’s show.

We take a look back at the main event from last week, Hideo Itami vs. Roderick Strong, which was won by Itami. We see that after NXT went off the air, SAnitY attacked Strong and left him lying in the ring. We see Strong backstage last week and William Regal walks up to him. Strong says he wants SAnitY and Regal nods and pats him on the back. We then see a vignette with SAnitY. Young mocks Strong and calls him insane for challenging SAnitY. Young says they don’t normally take requests, but they will grant Strong’s wish this time and they will see him at TakeOver.

We see that Sonya Deville will take on Lacey Evans later tonight, as well as Kassius Ohno taking on Andrade “Cien” Almas.

We take a look back at the debut of Hideo Itami in NXT and then the announcers run down the card for NXT TakeOver: Chicago. We then take a look back to the UK Championship Tournament in January, which was won by Tyler Bate.

We are reminded of tonight’s main event between Kassius Ohno and Andrade “Cien” Almas and then see that an exclusive interview with Asuka is up next.

We see another vignette for the “Velveteen Dream” Patrick Clark and then take another look at a moment in Hideo Itami’s NXT career. We then are reminded that “Judas” by Fozzy is one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

We see that the match between Roderick Strong and Eric Young has been made official for TakeOver and then are reminded that Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot will challenge Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship this Saturday night. We see an interview with Asuka from earlier today. Asuka scoffs at the questions and says “Next question” and “Is this interview over?” We then see her arriving at the arena and cheering along with the fans, but then scoffing at them as well after she turns the corner.

Match #2: Lacey Evans vs. Sonya Deville
Deville delivers a few quick kicks and a big right hand and goes for the cover, but Evans kicks out at two. Evans comes right back and takes Deville down and gets a two count as well. Deville comes back with a single-leg takedown and gets a one count. Deville locks in a body-scissors submission and then rolls her over for a two count. Deville clocks Evans in the face and then removes her gloves. She delivers body shots to Evans and eggs Evans on and Evans answers with a straight right hand. Evans takes Deville down with a back elbow and then a quick kick. Evans slams Deville into the ropes and then takes her down with a neck-breaker. Evans goes for the cover, but Deville kicks out at two. Deville kicks Evans in the midsection and then delivers a kick to the side of Evans’ face and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Sonya Deville.

We see that Kassius Ohno and Andrade “Cien” Almas will go one-on-one up next. We then take a look back at Hideo Itami making his presence known to Bobby Roode last month. We are then reminded of the other theme song for NXT TakeOver: Chicago, “Over-Throne” by Hacktivist.

Match #3: Kassius Ohno vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
Ohno goes behind Almas and apples a headlock and takes him down to the mat. Almas poses on the mat and then backs into the ropes. Ohno takes Almas down and runs the ropes, but he and Almas come to a stalemate in the middle of the ring. Almas kicks Ohno in the midsection, but Ohno delivers a spinning elbow. Almas goes to the floor, but Ohno attempts to dive onto him. Almas moves, but Ohno takes him down with a big boot. Ohno rolls Almas back into the ring and delivers a few chops. Almas comes back and sends Ohno to the apron and takes him down with a big boot as we head to a break.
We’re back and Almas is in control in the ring. He delivers a forearm shot in the corner and then delivers a chop that sends Ohno to the mat. Almas stomps onto Ohno and then backs him against the ropes. Almas delivers a knee shot and then stomps away on Ohno in the corner. Almas backs away and then charges and slaps Ohno across the face. Almas poses, but Ohno comes back and delivers a few chops. Almas fires back with forearms and backs Ohno into the ropes. Ohno dumps Almas to the apron, but Almas catches Ohno and locks in the arm-bar over the top rope. Almas goes up top and delivers a missile dropkick. Almas goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Almas goes for the arm-bar again, but Ohno fights back. Ohno gets to his feet, but Almas backs him into the corner. Almas goes for the slap in the corner again, but Ohno counters with a chop and a pump kick. Ohno rams his head into Almas’ midsection and then drops him with a spinning neck-breaker. Ohno kicks up and smashes Almas in the corner. Ohno drops Almas with a big kick and goes for the cover, but Almas kicks out at two. Ohno delivers a scoop slam and then goes up top. Ohno goes for a moonsault, but Almas moves and drops an elbow on Ohno. Almas goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Almas goes for a suplex, but Ohno blocks it. Ohno puts Almas on the top rope and delivers a forearm. Almas and Ohno exchange shots on the top rope and Almas drops Ohno with repeated elbow shots. Almas comes off the top, but Ohno catches him with a kick to the face. Almas stays on his feet and takes Ohno down with a spinning kick. Almas delivers double knees in the corner and goes for the hammer-lock DDT. Ohno backs Almas into the corner, but Almas delivers a boot and then drops Ohno with a tornado DDT. Almas goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at one. Almas backs Ohno into the corner, but Ohno counters with the pump kick and then two spinning elbows and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kassius Ohno.

We see that the match between Drew McIntyre and Wesley Blake has been made official next week, plus Aleister Black will be in action as well.

We take a look back to last week when Hideo Itami defeated Roderick Strong to become the number one contender for the NXT Championship.

Bobby Roode’s music hits and the NXT Champion makes his way to the ring. He says everywhere he goes, everyone is talking about Hideo Itami. He says Itami has knocked a couple people out, including himself. Roode says he was just minding his own business and Itami interrupted him and laid him out with a GTS. Roode says he hopes Itami enjoyed that moment, because it will never happen again. Roode says at TakeOver: Chicago, he will not be standing in the ring in a custom-made suit. He will be in his gear, taped up and ready to go, and will do to Itami like he has everyone who has stood in his way in NXT. Roode says he will make yet another example of Itami. Roode says Itami was here, then he was gone, then he returned, then got hurt, then came back, then got hurt again. Roode says he didn’t even know Itami was employed. Roode says he has taken the NXT to heights that were never seen before. Roode says Itami will have to fly back to Japan and tell his wife and kid that he failed again. Itami’s music hits and the number one contender makes his way to the ring. William Regal runs down and tells Itami to stop, and brings security with him. Itami rushes past them and gets into the ring. Itami takes Roode down and then drops all the security guards. He delivers the GTS to the security guards as Roode watches from the floor. Roode attacks Itami from behind, but Itami comes right back and delivers the GTS to Roode. Itami stands tall over Roode as NXT comes to a close.
