2/22/17 NXT Recap: New Women’s #1 Contender Crowned, Dunne/Andrews, Roode/Jose Main Event, Ohno Re-debuts

NXT opens with an “In Memory of George “The Animal” Steele graphic and then we are reminded of a match scheduled for tonight featuring Ember Moon, Liv Morgan, and Peyton Royce, in which the winner will become the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. We then see the NXT opening video and go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Tom Phillips informs us that Pete Dunne will go one-on-one with Mark Andrews later tonight, as well as Bobby Roode going on-on-one with No Way Jose.

Match #1 – #1 Contender’s (NXT Women’s Championship) Triple Threat Match: Ember Moon vs. Liv Morgan vs. Peyton Royce (w/Billie Kay)
The three women circle the ring and Peyton takes Ember down with a shot to the face. Liv shoves Peyton into Ember and Ember rolls to the floor. Liv goes for a couple roll-ups on Peyton, but Peyton kicks out at two both times. Peyton comes right back and tosses Liv to the floor, but Ember gets back into the ring and takes Peyton down to the mat. Peyton rolls to the outside and Billie checks on her as Ember takes Liv out with a dive over the top rope. Peyton slams Ember into the barricade as we head to a break.
We’re back and Peyton is in control of Liv in the ring. Peyton takes Liv to the corner and chokes her with her boot and then goes for a cover, but Liv kicks out at two. Peyton kicks Liv in the midsection and then kicks Ember back down to the floor. Liv rolls up Peyton, but Peyton kicks out at two and then drops Liv with a clothesline. Peyton goes for the cover, but Liv kicks out at two. Peyton tosses Liv onto the apron and then delivers a knee shot and then a submission through the ropes. Peyton kicks Liv back into the ring and then shoves Ember back down to the floor. Peyton stomps away on Liv again and then wraps her around the ropes again. Peyton drops Liv to the mat and kicks Ember back down to the floor once more. Peyton sends Liv to the corner and charges, but Liv gets a boot up. Liv takes Peyton down with a head-scissors take down and goes for the cover, but Peyton kicks out at two. Peyton comes right back with a kick to Liv’s leg and then sends Ember back to the floor again. Peyton delivers a knee to Liv’s midsection and then drives her knee into Liv in the corner. Peyton backs away and charges, but Liv counters with a drop toe hold. Liv stomps down onto Peyton and then takes her down with a bulldog. Liv goes for the cover, but Ember breaks it up at two. Liv goes for a clothesline on Ember, but Ember ducks and sends her off the ropes. Liv comes right back and sends Ember to the outside with a head-scissors take down. Liv goes up top, but Peyton cuts her off. Peyton goes for a suplex from the top, but Ember gets into the ring and connects with a superplex to both women. Ember crawls to the corner and climbs. Billie gets into the ring, but Ember hits her with the Eclipse. Liv shoves Ember to the floor and Peyton drives her knee into Liv’s face and takes her down with a fisherman’s suplex and gets the pin fall.
Winner and number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship: Peyton Royce.

We take an exclusive look at Mark Andrews and Pete Dunne and see that they will go one-on-one after the break.

We see a vignette for the returning Kassius Ohno.

We hear an update on Shinsuke Nakamura, who is continuing to rehab his injured knee. We hear that he has progressed to working with heavy bags in the WWE Performance Center.

Match #2 – Mark Andrews vs. Pete Dunne
They tie up and Dunne takes Andrews down to the mat. Andrews comes back and gets to his feet, but Dunne takes Andrews down again. Dunne separates Andrews’ fingers, but Andrews comes back and takes Dunne down with a couple arm drags. Andrews counters a sunset flip with a dropkick that sends Dunne to the floor. Andrews goes for a moonsault from the apron, but Dunne catches him. Andrews takes Dunne down with an arm drag and tosses him into the ring, but Dunne takes control and works over Andrews’ arm. Dunne goes for the cover, but Andrews kicks out at two. Dunne locks in a read chin-lock and then stomps down onto his hands. Dunne goes for a suplex, but Andrews counters with a kick to the back of Dunne’s head that sends Dunne to the floor. Andrews goes for another moonsault, but Dunne moves and levels Andrews with a forearm shot to the back of the head. Dunne puts Andrews’ hand in between the steps and stomps down on the steps. Dunne slams Andrews onto the ring apron as we head to a break.
We’re back and Dunne is still in control. Dunne rakes Andrews’ face down on the mat and then tosses him out to the floor. Andrews rolls back into the ring, but Dunne catches him. Dunne tries to toss Andrews to the floor again, but Andrews counters and kicks Dunne in the midsection. Andrews kicks Dunne in the face and then charges at him in the corner. Andrews drives a shoulder into Dunne’s midsection and then takes him down with a head-scissors. Andrews connects with a standing shooting star press and goes for the cover, but Dunne kicks out at two. Andrews goes up top, but Dunne gets to his feet. Andrews runs the ropes, but Dunne catches him with a right forearm and then slams him down with a suplex. Dunne goes for the cover, but Andrews kicks out at two. Dunne goes for the Bitter End, but Andrews counters with an enzuiguri. Dunne comes right back with an uppercut, but Andrews takes Dunne down with a reverse runner. Andrews charges, but Dunne counters with a German suplex. Dunne goes for the Bitter End, but Andrews counters with a spinning DDT. Andrews goes for the cover, but Dunne kicks out at two. Dunne comes back with a right forearm shot and goes for the Bitter End a third time, but Andrews counters again, this time with a roll-up. Dunne connects with a palm strike, but Andrews comes right back with a stunner. Andrews goes for the shooting star press, but Dunne gets his knees up and finally connects with the Bitter End and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Pete Dunne.

We see Billie Kay and Peyton Royce backstage. Dasha asks for her thoughts about her match with Asuka next week. Peyton says she would already be the NXT Women’s Champion if it wasn’t for Nikki Cross. She says she proved she’s the best, which is why she is the number one contender, and that she will become the new champion next week.

We see that Bobby Roode will go one-on-one with No Way Jose up next. We also see that Patrick Clark will be in action next week, as well as The Authors of Pain defending the NXT Tag Team Championship against #DIY.

We see an interview with Tye Dillinger from earlier in the ring. Dillinger says he doesn’t know why SAnitY have targeted him, but he has friends in Roderick Strong and No Way Jose. He says they have his back and his damn sure has theirs. He says he has plenty of fight left in him and he also has an agenda, but his doesn’t involve SAnitY.

Match #3 – Non-title Match: No Way Jose vs. Bobby Roode
They tie up and Roode takes Jose down and smacks him a few times down on the mat. They tie up again and applies a wrist-lock down on the mat. Jose dances his way free and reverses the wrist-lock. Jose delivers a right hand and chops Roode in the corner. Jose takes Roode down with a drop toe hold and then smacks Roode on the mat a few times like Roode did to him. Jose delivers a few left hands and goes for a big clothesline, but Roode ducks and drops Jose with a glorious spine-buster as we head to a break.
We’re back and Roode is still in control. Roode gets on the middle rope and clubs Jose in the back of the neck and sends Jose down to the mat. Roode chokes Jose over the middle rope and then stomps away on him down on the mat. Roode suplexes Jose down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Jose kicks out at two. Roode applies a headlock, but Jose fights back to his feet. Roode comes off the ropes, but Jose catches him and goes for the TKO. Roode gets free, but Jose drops him with a few right hands. Jose lights Roode up with more right hands and drops him again with another big right hand. Jose sends Roode off the ropes, but Roode comes back with a big kick and goes for the Glorious DDT, but Jose counters and takes Roode down with an STO. Jose goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Jose winds up, but Roode ducks under. Roode kicks Jose in the face and goes to the middle rope. Roode comes off, but Jose decks him with a right hand and Roode rolls to the floor. Jose tosses Roode back into the ring, but Roode catches him and drops him with the Glorious DDT and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Bobby Roode.
After the match, Roode goes to leave, but he returns to the ring and takes out Jose’s knee. Roode applies a half Boston crab to Jose, but Kassius Ohno’s music hits and he hits the ring and sends Roode scrambling. Roode grabs a mic and asks “Who in the hell do you think you are?” Ohno gets a mic of his own and says the NXT Universe knows who he is and he knows that Roode knows who he is. Ohno says he is Kassius Ohno and he isn’t anything to mess with. He says anything he has ever wanted or needed, he has reached out and taken it. He says he has some unfinished business and Roode has what he wants and needs, the NXT Championship. Roode says that is a real heartbreaking story, but lucky for Ohno, he’s looking at a fighting champion. Roode says they don’t have to wait. Roode says he can put the title on the line right here, right now. Roode tells the referee to get in the ring, but attacks Ohno from behind and takes out his knee. Roode works over Ohno’s knee, but Ohno fights back and drops Roode with a clothesline and a big right hand. Ohno sends Roods scrambling once again and they stare each other down as NXT comes to a close.
