12/21/16 NXT Recap: Almas vs. Dillinger vs. Roode vs. Strong; Who is the New #1 Contender?

We see the NXT opening video and then go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, where Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, and Percy Watson welcome us to the show. We are reminded of tonight’s main event, a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match featuring Bobby Roode, Andrade “Cien” Almas, Roderick Strong, and Tye Dillinger, with the winner becoming the number one contender for Shinsuke Nakamura’s NXT Championship.

Match #1: Billie Kay (w/Peyton Royce) vs. Daria Berenato
Daria takes Billie down from behind, but Billie counters with a back elbow. Daria comes back and takes Billie down and then drives her knee into Billie’s back. Peyton grabs Daria’s leg from the outside and Billie takes advantage. Billie slams Daria down and goes for the cover, but Daria kicks out at one. Daria comes right back and drops Billie with a couple clotheslines and then takes Billie down with a double-leg take down. Daria takes off her gloves and backs Billie into the corner. Daria delivers a quick sequences of lefts and rights before Peyton pulls Billie out of the ring. Daria leaves the ring and knocks Peyton down and rolls Billie back into the ring. The referee checks on Billie and Peyton drives Daria into the ring apron on the outside. Peyton rolls Daria back into the ring and Billie delivers a big boot to the face and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Billie Kay.
After the match, Billie and Peyton toss Daria to the floor. Billie grabs a microphone and says the same fate will befall any woman in NXT who crosses them. Peyton says that Asuka’s competition is in the ring and whenever Asuka has the guts to face them, they will show her who calls the shots.

Match #2: The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) (w/Paul Ellering) vs. Two Local Competitors
Akam tosses one of the guys into the corner and then tags in Rezar. They slam the guy down to the mat and Rezar intimidates the other guy off of the ring apron. Akam stops him and he gets into the ring and eats a splash from Rezar in the corner. The Authors slam the guys int each other and then power bomb them to the mat. They set up for the Last Chapter, but the referee stops them and calls for the bell, as the guy is not able to stand on his own feet.
Winners via technical knockout: The Authors of Pain.
After the match, Ellering grabs a microphone and says their road leads to San Antonio. He says they don’t care if they face D.I.Y. or The Revival, because the Authors are on a seek-and-destroy mission to become NXT Tag Team Champions.

We take a look back at the women’s match from earlier tonight. Then we see Asuka backstage. Asuka says Billie and Peyton are no competition for her and they need to be careful. We see Nikki Cross swinging on the fixture in the back, and she smiles and laughs before walking away.

Tom Phillips reminds us of tonight’s main event, and then we take a look back at the qualifying matches from last week’s show. Tye Dillinger says he didn’t like winning by disqualification and has a track record of coming up short in big-time matches, so he can’t afford to come up short again. Andrade “Cien” Almas says No Way Jose was a nobody, and that he is the only superstar in NXT and he only cares about himself. Roderick Strong says he has worked long and hard to get where he is, but he is a champion and this is the next step for him. Bobby Roode says the entire world is waiting for a star of his caliber to put the NXT Championship over his shoulder. Roode says he beat Almas and Dillinger and asks who Roderick Strong is. Roode says he will make the NXT Championship glorious.

Match #3: Number One Contender’s (NXT Championship) Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match: Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong vs. Tye Dillinger
Roode ducks out of the ring and Almas stays in the corner. Strong ducks out after Roode, as does Dillinger. Strong chops Roode and Dillinger decks him with a left hand, but Almas takes Dillinger down on the outside. Strong and Almas get back into the ring and Almas delivers a baseball slide dropkick to Strong and then poses in the middle of the ring as we head to a break.
We’re back and Almas and Strong are still in the ring. Almas kicks Strong in the face and goes for a cover, but Strong kicks out at one. Almas stomps on Strong in the corner and then delivers a chop to Dillinger to send him back to the floor. Almas slaps Strong across the face, but Strong comes back and delivers a chop of his own. Strong goes for a gut-buster, but Almas counters and slams Strong down to the mat. Almas gets to the top rope, but Dillinger cuts him off. Almas elbow Dillinger down to the mat and goes for a moonsault on both Strong and Dillinger, but they move. Almas lands on his feet, but Strong and Dillinger send him to the outside. Strong and Dillinger face off, but Roode gets back into the ring and takes them both down. Roode sends Dillinger to the outside and then takes Strong to the corner. Roode delivers some hard chops, but Strong comes right back with a back-breaker. Strong goes for the cover, but Roodie kicks out at two. Dillinger gets back into the ring and rolls up Strong, but Strong kicks out at two. Strong sends Dillinger back to the floor and dropkicks Almas down to the floor. Roode grabs Strong and delivers a back-suplex. Roode goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Roode drops knees onto Strong’s chest and goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Dillinger gets into the ring, but Roode quickly tosses him back to the floor. Roode chokes Strong over the middle rope, but Strong comes back with a couple right hands to the midsection. Roode takes Strong down with a knee lift and then delivers a neck-breaker. Roode goes for the cover, but Strong kicks out at two. Almas gets on the apron, but Roode takes him back down to the floor. Storng comes back with a knee lift and then a side suplex to Roode. Roode rolls to the floor, but Strong launches over the top rope and takes all three men down on the outside as we head to a break.
We’re back and Roode drops Strong with a clothesline. Roode rolls Strong up, but the referee catches Roode’s feet on the ropes. Roode stomps away on Strong in the corner and then decks Almas with a right hand to send him back to the floor. Dillinger gets into the ring, but Roode delivers a suplex to him. Roode goes for the cover, but Dillinger kicks out at two. Roode sends Dillinger back to the floor, but Strong comes back with some offense. Roode goes for a suplex, but Strong counters with a gut-buster. Strong delivers a running knee in the corner and then puts Roode on the top rope. Strong goes for a suplex, but Almas get sback into the ring. Almas sets up for a suplex, but Dillinger gets into the ring and suplexes all three men down to the mat. Dillinger sets up for the Tye-breaker on Almas, but Almas fights back. Dillinger puts Almas on the apron and Strong goes after Dillinger. Almas dropkicks Strong and Dillinger rolls up Almas, but Almas kicks out at two. Almas comes back and kicks Dillinger in the face and then delivers double-knees to Dillinger in the corner. Strong kicks Almas in the face and gets the pin fall.
Andrade “Cien” Almas has been eliminated.
Strong stomps away on Dillinger, but Dillinger fights back. Strong delivers a gut-buster and goes for the cover, but Dillinger kicks out at two. Strong comes right back and picks Dillinger up, but Dillinger counters and connects with the Tye-breaker and gets the pin fall.
Roderick Strong has been eliminated.
Dillinger and Roode exchange punches and then Dillinger takes Roode down and stomps away on him in the corner. Dillinger picks Roode up and goes for the Tye-breaker, but Roode holds on to the ropes. Dillinger goes for a roll-up, but Roode kicks out at two. Dillinger sends Roode off the ropes, but Roode counters with a big clothesline. Roode goes to the outside and grabs a steel chair and brings it into the ring. He goes to hit Dillinger with the chair, but Dillinger counters with a superkick. Dillinger goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Dillinger grabs Roode, but Roode drapes him over the top rope. Roode goes up top, but Dillinger cuts him off. Dillinger goes for the Tye-breaker, but Roode shoves him off and delivers a spine-buster. Roode goes for the Glorious DDT, but Dillinger counters and connects with the Tye-breaker. Dillinger goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Dillinger gets Roode on the top rope and goes for a Tye-breaker from the top, but Roode elbows his way free. Dillinger goes for another Tye-breaker, but Roode escapes and drapes Dillinger on the top turnbuckle. Roode grabs Dillinger and delivers the Glorious DDT and gets the pin fall.
Tye Dillinger has been eliminated.
Winner and Number One Contender for the NXT Championship: Bobby Roode.
After the match, Roode celebrates his win in the ring as Dillinger looks on from the floor as NXT comes to a close.
