8/17/16 NXT Recap: Itami in Action, Joe/Nakamura Interview, Six-Woman Tag Main Event

The go-home edition of NXT opens with a preview for tonight’s show. We see that Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura will meet face-to-face tonight. The NXT opening video hits and then we go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida where Tom Phillips and Corey Graves welcome us to the show.

Match #1: Hideo Itami vs. Mustafa Ali
Itami applies a headlock and Ali backs him off the ropes. Ali takes Itami down with a dropkick and then taunts Itami while he is down. Ali comes of the ropes, but Itami takes him down with a running knee and then a big kick to the chest. Ali goes to the corner and Itami goes after him. Ali ducks out of the way and goes to the floor. Itami comes out of nowhere with a baseball slide dropkick and both men are on the outside now. Itami rolls Ali back into the ring, but Ali catches him with a neck-breaker. Ali goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out at two. Ali applies a headlock down on the mat, but Itami fights out. Itami sends Ali to the apron, but Ali counters with a big kick. Ali goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out again. Ali shoves Itami away, but Itami comes back with a couple kicks and then takes him down with a dragon screw leg-whip. Itami connects with a jumping kick and a big kick to the midsection. Itami connects with the hesitation dropkick in the corner and then connects with a running knee and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Hideo Itami.

We join Graves and Phillips at the announce table and they talk about Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and inform us that we will see a Six-Woman Tag Team Match later tonight featuring the team of Carmella, Liv Morgan, and Nikki Glenncross going against Alexa Bliss, Daria Derenato, and Mandy Rose. We will take an exclusive preview look at the feud between Asuka and Bayley after the break.

Back from the break, we see a video hype package for “The Glorious One” Bobby Roode and his match against Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II.

We are reminded that “Serpents” by Neckdeep is one of the theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, and then we join Phillips and Graves at the announcers’ table again. We take an exclusive look at the ongoing feud between the NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka, and the number one contender, Bayley.

We see Carmella, Liv Morgan, and Nikki Glencross warming up for their match later tonight as we head to a break.

Back from the break, we take a look at some of the other matches on the NXT TakeOver: Brookyn II card, including The Revival vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, and Austin Aries vs. No Way Jose.

We are reminded that Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura will be face-to-face in an exclusive interview later tonight, and then we see Alexa Bliss, Daria Berenato, and Mandy Rose warming up backstage for their match as we head to a break.

We are reminded that Banks and Steelz’ “Giants” is the other theme song for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II as we head backstage to join NXT General Manager William Regal in his office. He said the first TakeOver: Brooklyn was a success and this years is looking to be the best one yet. Billie Kay interrupts and says it can’t be the best one yet since she is not on it. Regal says she is correct and places her in a match against the debuting Ember Moon.

Match #2: Six-Woman Tag Team Match – Liv Morgan, Nikki Glencross, and Carmella vs. Daria Berenato, Mandy Rose, and Alexa Bliss
Nikki and Alexa start the match for their teams. Alexa slams Nikki down to the mat and shoves her in the face. Alexa grabs Nikki, but Nikki reverses and slams Alexa down to the mat. Alexa sends Nikki to the corner and charges, but Nikki goes over the top and takes Alexa down to the mat. Alexa comes back, but Nikki connects with a dropkick and Alexa rolls to the floor. Alexa gets back into the ring and tags in Daria as we head to a break.
We’re back and Liv and Daria are the legal women. Liv gets Daria in a headlock, but Alexa distracts Liv and Daria drops Liv with a right hand. Daria tags in Alexa, who stomps Liv’s face into the mat repeatedly. Alexa goes for the cover, but Liv kicks out at one. Daria tags back in and delivers a few kicks to Liv’s midsection. Mandy tags in and delivers a right hand and a snap-mare to Liv. Mandy applies a submission, but Liv gets out of it. Mandy goes for a pin, but Liv kicks out. Mandy takes Liv down again and goes for another cover, but Liv kicks out again. Mandy takes Liv to the corner and tags in Daria. Daria delivers a few knees and a big right hand. Daria goes for the cover, but Liv kicks out again. Daria applies a body scissors down on the mat, but Liv rolls back and gets a quick pin fall attempt before Daria pushes her off. Daria goes back to the body-scissors, but Liv elbows her way out. Daria keeps the body-scissors in place and applies a rear choke as well. Daria slings Liv around, but Liv rolls back and goes for another pin. Liv gets out of the hold, but Daria pulls her back to the corner and tags in Alexa. Alexa grabs Liv and kicks her in the face. Alexa goes for an elbow drop, but Liv moves. Liv connects with an enzuiguri and tags Carmella in. Mandy tags in as well and Carmella drops her with a clothesline. Carmella tags Daria and Alexa to the floor and kicks Mandy in the face. Carmella takes Mandy down with another kick and goes for the cover, but Alexa breaks it up. Nikki get in the ring and takes Alexa down and then Daria spears Nikki and they roll to the outside. Mandy rolls up Carmella, but Carmella kicks out and locks in the Code of Silence and Mandy taps out.
Winners: Carmella, Liv Morgan, and Nikki Glencross.

We go backstage and we see William Regal informing security to keep Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura apart. Regal tells Joe the security is here and Joe knows why, and Joe agrees as we head to a break.

We see the video hype package for Ember Moon, who will debut this Saturday at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II against Billie Kay.

We’re back and Tom Phillips and Corey Graves run down the card for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II.

We go backstage and see the exclusive interview with Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura. It is a rather short interview that breaks down when Nakamura says he respects Joe. Joe says Nakamura doesn’t know what respect is, but he will at TakeOver: Brooklyn. Joe jumps out of his seat towards Nakamura, but security holds him back and Regal yells at them to get Joe out of here as NXT comes to a close.
