8/3/16 NXT Recap: Hideo Itami Returns, Bobby Roode Debuts, Asuka in Action, Revival vs. TM-61 Main Event

We see a new opening video this week, and then we go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida and Corey Graves and Tom Phillips welcome us to the show. Hideo Itami’s music hits, and he makes his return to the ring in the NXT Arena!

Match #1: Hideo Itami vs. Sean Maluta
They tie up and Itami applies a headlock. Maluta fights out and sends Itami off the ropes, but Itami drops him with a shoulder block. Itami comes off the ropes, but Maluta stops him with a chop. Itami comes back and drops Maluta with a few forearm shots. Itami delivers a kick down on the mat and then kicks Maluta in the face. Maluta goes to the corner and slams Itami into the turnbuckle. Maluta kicks Itami in the face and then hits a codebreaker. Maluta goes for the cover, but Itami kicks out. Maluta locks in a body scissors in the middle of the ring, but Itami gets out of it. Maluta delivers a few kicks, but they just fire Itami up. Itami sends Maluta to the corner and delivers a dropkick. Itami then hits the running knee and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Hideo Itami.

We go to the announcers table and Graves and Phillips inform us that Asuka will be in action later tonight as we head to a break.

After the break, we see footage of two weeks ago when The Authors of Pain beat down American Alpha. We then go backstage to Andrea D’Marco, who is with The Revival. They say there is no pressure on them and they prove it every time they are in the ring because they are the best tag team on the planet. TM-61 walks up and challenge The Revival to a match. The Revival tells them to grab a ticket and get to the back of the line. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny gargano walk up and Gargano says they have a ticket with the number one on it, but Ciampa says they are scared and won’t give he and Gargano a shot. Dawson says they have already agreed to give TM-61 a match and walks off as Ciampa, Gargano, and TM-61 talk.

Match #2: Mojo Rawley vs. Chris Atkins
They tie up and Rawley quickly sends Atkins off the ropes and takes Atkins down with a shoulder block. Rawley goes for the pin, but Samoa Joe rushes the ring and beats down both men.
Match Result: No Contest.
After the match, Joe grabs a microphone and says since William Regal doesn’t consult with him about his challengers, he will not consult with Regal as to when he will come out and rampage all over the show. Joe says at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, he will destroy Shinsuke Nakamura, but Mojo Rawley gets back in the ring and knocks Samoa Joe to the mat. Referees rush the ring and get Rawley out of the ring, but Joe rushes him on the stage and beats him down. Joe locks in the Coquina Clutch and Rawley passes out.

We go backstage and see Bayley. She says she is not the same person she was in Dallas when Asuka beat her. She says it is now time to mentally prepare for matches and she has been watching Asuka’s matches. Asuka walks up and asks Bayley if she thinks she is ready. Asuka tells Bayley to come watch her match and Bayley says she will be out there.

We see that TM-61 will take on The Revival later tonight as we head to a break.

Back from the break, Bayley’s music hits and she joins Phillips and Graves at the announcers table.

Match #3: Aliyah vs. Asuka
Before the match, Asuka grabs a chair and sets it up on the stage and motions for Bayley to sit in it instead of at the announcers table. Bayley walks down and kicks over the chair and stands at ringside.

Asuka takes Aliyah down and delivers a stiff kick. Aliyah comes back with some rights and lefts, but Asuka comes right back with the flying hip attack. Asuka delivers a few hip checks to Aliyah and then a few kicks for good measure. Asuka wraps Aliyah in the ropes and stares down Bayley on the outside. Asuka delivers another hip attack to Aliyah against the ropes and then charges in the corner, but Aliyah counters with a boot. Aliyah comes off the ropes, but Asuka counters with a shot to the face. Asuka goes for the cover, but pulls her up at two and stares at Bayley. Asuka delivers a series of knees and then locks in the Asuka Lock and Aliyah taps out.
Winner: Asuka.
After the match, Asuka keeps the hold locked in, but Bayley gets in the ring to help Aliyah. We hear that Bayley and Asuka will have a contract signing next week. Asuka holds the NXT Women’s Championship belt in the air and stands over Bayley and Aliyah before leaving the ring.

We take a look back to last month to see Oney Lorcan’s upset victory over Tye Dillinger. We then see an interview with Lorcan. He says he knows the competition in NXT will get better, so he has to get better. He says if he wants to hang with the best in NXT, he has to go back to his roots.

We see that Bobby Roode will debut next as we head to a break.

We see a vignette for Ember Moon, who will debut at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II on Saturday, August 20th.

Back in the arena, Bobby Roode’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring and grabs a microphone. He says the wait is finally over and that Bobby Roode is NXT. He says he had the honor of sitting in the front row at NXT TakeOver: Dallas. He says it was at that moment that he realized that NXT was the perfect place for him. He says there has never been another brand anywhere in the world that has revolutionized wrestling like NXT has. He says he has heard the phrase “We Are NXT,” but he says the fans are also NXT. He says to take NXT to the next level, NXT needed him. He says the fans need Bobby Roode because they have been searching the world for a superstars to make NXT a global powerhouse. He says they have found that superstar and his name is Bobby Roode. Roode says his face will be on billboards and he will make NXT a better place. He says he will bring Presidents and Vice Presidents of Fortune 500 companies sitting in the crowd instead of the losers he sees right now. He says he is a superstar because of the things he has accomplished in his career, but also because of how he dresses and applies himself. Rodde says whether we like it or not, there has never been anyone as “glorious” as Bobby Roode. He says this is the new NXT and he is at the helm. He says from this moment forward, NXT will be glorious.

We see that TM-61 will take on The Revival in tonight’s main event as we head to a break.

Back from the break, we are reminded that Asuka and Bayley will have a contract signing on NXT next week.

Match #4: TM-61 (Nick Miller and Shane Thorne) vs. The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson)
Dawson and Miller start the match. They tie up and Dawson takes him down to the mat. Miller counters out and Dawson scurries to the ropes for the break. They tie up again and Dawson works over Miller’s arm, but Miller counters into his own arm wrench and Thorne tags in. Thorne continues the work on Dawson’s arm and Miller tags in. Miller goes for a cover, but Dawson kicks out. Thorne tags in and they double-team Dawson. Thorne goes for the cover, but Dawson kicks out. Thorne works over Dawson’s arm, but Dawson gets to the corner and tags in Wilder. Wilder puts Thorne in the corner, but Thorne gets out of it and TM-61 sends The Revival to the floor as we head to a break.
Back from the break, Dawson works over Thorne’s arm. Dawson delivers an elbow shot and tags in Wilder. Wilder delivers a right hand and goes for the cover, but Thorne kicks out. Wilder continues to work over Thorne’s arm and delivers a shot to his back. Wilder takes Thorne to the corner and tags in Dawson. Dawson kicks Thorne in the face and goes for the cover, but Thorne kicks out at two. Dawson works over Thorne’s arm again, but Thorne fights to his feet. Dawson sends Thorne off the ropes and drops him with a back elbow. Wilder tags in and comes off the top rope, but Thorne puts his boots up and kicks Wilder into the corner. Dawson and Miller tag in and Miller drops Dawson with some right hands. Miller drops Wilder to the floor and then drops Dawson with a suplex. Wilder gets in the ring, but eats a suplex as well. Miller delivers back elbows to both men in the corner and then a spinebuster to Dawson. Miller goes for the cover, but Dawson kicks out at two. Wilder sends Thorne into the apron on the outside and Miller chases him around the ring. Dawson catches Miller and delivers a DDT in the ring and gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Revival.
After the match, Dawson grabs a mic and says they are the top guys in the world. Wilder says they have beaten TM-61, Enzo and Cass, American Alpha, and The Ascension. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano make their way to the stage and call Dash and Dawson “Ole and Arn.” Gargano and Ciampa mention teams that The Revival has beaten, and throw in some fake results and are joking around with the names like The Hollywood Blondes, Kermit and Miss Piggy, and Pikachu and Charmander. Dawson and Wilder get pisses and Ciampa and Gargano get into the ring. Gargano says he hasn’t “caught them all” because the only thing he is collecting is the NXT Tag Team Championship. Gargano says the one team that The Revival hasn’t beaten is Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. Dawson says if comedy hour is over, the two-time NXT Tag Team Champions want to speak. Dawson says Gargano has words, but they have something that is worth a lot more. Dawson says the top guys are out, but then an all-out brawl ensues. Ciampa sends Dawson to the floor and Gargano delivers a super kick to Wilder. Gargano goes for the cover on Wilder and Ciampa makes the mock-three count. Gargano and Ciampa and stand tall with the NXT Tag titles and The Revival regroups on the outside as NXT comes to a close.
