7/6/16 NXT Recap: The Revival vs. American Alpha

This week’s NXT opens with a reminder that The Revival will defend their NXT Tag Team Championship against American Alpha in a Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match, and then we see the usual opening video. We go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, and Corey Graves and Tom Phillips welcomes us to the show.

Match #1: Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss
They tie up and Bayley takes Alexa down to the mat and drives an elbow into her back and then drops her to the mat with a clothesline. Alexa gets back to her feet and drops Bayley down to the mat. Alexa slingshots Bayley throat-first into the middle rope and goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out. Alexa takes Bayley to the corner and stomps away on her and then wrenches her neck down on the mat. Bayley fights out, but Alexa goes for a quick pin and Bayley kicks out. Alexa chokes Bayley over the middle rope and then slams her back down to the mat. Alexa goes for another pin, but Bayley kicks out again. Alexa slams Bayley down to the mat and then stands on her back and slams her face into the mat repeatedly. Alexa goes for a big kick to the midsection, but Bayley stops her and delivers a running power bomb into the corner. Bayley delivers an elbow and a running knee in the corner and then takes Alexa to another corner. Bayley delivers another elbow and running knee and then slams Alexa into the corner again. Bayley goes for the elbow, but Alexa moves out of the way and punches Bayley in the face as we head to a break.
We’re back and Alexa is still in control and is pounding away on Bayley. Alexa works over Bayley’s arm and uses the rope for leverage. Alexa goes for another slingshot in the ropes, but Bayley counters. Bayley gets Alexa on the apron and uses the ropes herself and takes Alexa down. Bayley goes for the pin, but Alexa kicks out at two. Alexa grabs Bayley around the throat and slams her down and then drops the double knees. Alexa drags Bayley to the corner and goes up top for Twisted Bliss, but Bayley counters. Bayley goes for a Bayley-to-Belly from the top, but Alexa counters and slams Bayley to the mat. Alexa goes for the cover, but Bayley kicks out at two. Alexa argues with the referee and Bayley rolls her up, but Alexa kicks out at two. They exchange roll-ups and pin attempts, but none are successful. Bayley slams Alexa down and goes for another cover, but Alexa kicks out at two. Alexa sends Bayley to the corner, but Bayley counters with an elbow. Alexa grabs Bayley’s foot and slams her down to the mat. Alexa goes for Twisted Bliss, but Bayley counters with knees. Bayley delivers Bayley-to-Belly and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Bayley.
After the match, Bayley grabs a microphone. She says it has been a long rode back. She said she lost her title in Dallas, but bounced back. She said she was taken down again by Nia Jax, but she is back again. She is interrupted by Nia Jax, who makes her way to the ring. They get face-to-face and Bayley challenges her to one more match and Nia accepts and leaves the ring.

We take a special look at one of NXT’s newest tag teams, Shane Thorne and Nick Miller, collectively known as TM-61. We then go backstage where Cathy Kelley is interviewing The Revival. She asks them if they are worried about American Alpha tonight. Dash says they are not worried and they will leave still the champions. Dawson says tonight they will hit hard and will prove they are the best tag team on the planet.

We see the video hype promo for the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, which will begin airing at 9 eastern/8 central, right after NXT next Wednesday night.

Match #2: Blake and Murphy vs. The Hype Bros
Rawley and Blake start the match for their teams. Rawley drops Blake with a shoulder block and Murphy tags in. Murphy and Blake argue and shove each other and Rawley interrupts them. Rhyno rushes the ring and Gores Rawley, Ryder, and Blake as Murphy gets out of the ring and the referee calls for the bell.
Match Result: No Contest.

We take a special look at the upcoming match between Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura, which will take place on next week’s episode of NXT. We see comments from American Alpha, Neville, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, and even Triple H.

We go backstage with American Alpha. Jordan says they are going to execute their game plan. They said they played The Revival’s game plan last time and it cost them their titles. Gable says they have never been more ready, willing, and Gable.

We see that Samoa Joe will return to NXT next week. We then see Rhyno outside of the arena and he is asked why he is back in NXT. He looks at the guy who asked and then walks away.

Match #3: NXT Tag Team Championship Two-Out-of-Three Falls Match: The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) (c) vs. American Alpha (Chad Gable and Jason Jordan)
Gable and Wilder start the match with a tie up. Gable goes behind, but Wilder counters and wrenches Gable’s arm. Gable fights his way out and drops Wilder to the mat and goes for the Ankle Lock, but Dawson grabs Wilder and pulls him to the outside. Dawson tags in. Dawson and Gable tie up and Gable works over Dawson’s arm and tags in Jordan. Jordan continues the work on Dawson’s arm, but Dawson comes back and takes Jordan down. They trade wrestling maneuvers and we have a stalemate. Dawson goes for a cheap shot on Gable, who gets into the ring, which allows Wilder to hit Jordan with a cheap shot. Dawson and Wilder exchange tags, but Jordan takes them down with a double-clothesline. Gable tags in and he and Jordan send Dawson and Wilder to the outside with dropkicks as we head to a break.
We’re back and Jordan and Dawson are the legal men. Dawson slams Jordan to the mat, but Jordan comes back and delivers an inverted atomic drop as Wilder tags in. Wilder works over Jordan’s knee as Dawson tags back in. Dawson continues to work over Jordan’s knee and then delivers a few right hands to Jordan’s head. Wilder tags in and works over Jordan’s knee some more. Wilder kicks Jordan in the back of the leg and then wrenches his knee again. Dawson tags in and wraps Jordan’s knee around the ring post two times. Dawson rolls into the ring and picks Jordan up. Dawson wraps Jordan’s knee over the middle rope and Wilder gets a cheap shot in as the referee’s back is turned. Dawson dropkicks Jordan in the face and goes for the cover, but Jordan kicks out at two. Wilder tags in and drops down on Jordan from the ropes. Wilder continues the work on Jordan’s knee and then applies a modified knee-bar submission down on the mat. Jordan finally gets free and tags in Gable. Gable cleans house of The Revival, but Wilder comes back and pulls the ropes down as Gable charges across the ring and Gable and Wilder both crash and burn on the floor as we head to a break.
We’re back and Dawson and Gable are the legal men. Dawson drops Gable with a big clothesline and goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out at two. Dawson takes Gable to his corner and Wilder tags in. Wilder stomps away on Gable and slams him to the mat. Wilder goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out. Dawson tags in and drops an elbow on the back of Gables head. Dawson goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out. Dawson slams Gable down to the mat and tags in Wilder. Wilder delivers a headbutt and wrenches Gable’s neck down on the mat. Gable fights out and moves as Wilder dives at him. Wilder flies to the outside, but makes it back into the ring to tag Dawson before Gable can get to Jordan. Dawson and Wilder double-team Gable over the top rope as the referee deals with Jordan. Dawson goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out at two. Gable goes for a tag, but Dawson catches him and drops him with a spine-buster. Dawson goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out again. Dawson applies a headlock to Gable down on the mat. G able fights to his feet, but Wilder tags in. Gable goes for a sunset flip, but Wilder counters and shoves Jordan off the apron. The referee deals with Jordan as Wilder and Dawson double-team Gable again. Dawson tags in and delivers the leg-drop from the top rope. Dawson goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out. Wilder tags in again and punches Gable in the midsection and then drops down on his back. Wilder goes for the cover, but Gable kicks out. Dawson tags back in and kicks Gable in the midsection. Wilder tags back in and he and Dawson go to slam Gable, but Gable gets free and slams Wilder and Dawson into each other. Gable finally tags in Jordan, who clotheslines and suplexes Wilder and Dawson. He spears Dawson in the corner and Wilder in the middle of the ring. Jordan goes for the cover, but Wilder kicks out at two. Jordan sets Wilder on the top rope and goes for the suplex. Wilder headbutts Jordan down and Gable drops Dawon with a suplex. Wilder comes off the top with a cross-body, but Jordan rolls through and locks in the Ankle Lock. Gable applies the Ankle Lock to Dawson on the floor as Wilder taps in the ring.
Winners of Fall #1: American Alpha.

Dawson tags in to become the legal man. Jordan rolls up Dawson, but Dawson counters with his own roll-up. Dawson delivers a DDT to Jordan and goes for the cover, but Jordan kicks out. Dawson locks in an inverted Figure-Four and Jordan taps out.
Winners of Fall #2: The Revival.

Dawson and Jordan stay the legal men, but Gable quickly tags in. Gable gets a few quick pin attempts, but Dawson kicks out every time. Gable sends Dawson into the corner and Jordan tags in. Wilder gets involved, but Jordan gets Dawson in the Ankle Lock. Dawson gets free and sends Jordan into the corner. Dawson rolls Jordan up, but Jordan kicks out. Dawson applies the inverted Figure-Four again, but Gable breaks it up. Wilder sends himself and Gable to the outside as Dawson and Jordan are down in the ring. Gable gets back on the apron and tags in. Dawson catches Gable with a knee and goes for a suplex, but Gable counters. Gable brings Dawson to the apron and they exchange right hands. Gable goes for a German suplex from the apron to the floor, but Wilder stops it. They deliver Shatter Machine to Gable on the apron. Dawson rolls Gable back into the ring and gets the pin fall.
Winners of Fall #3 and still NXT Tag Team Champions: The Revival.
After the match, we see the video highlights from the three falls during the match. The Revival stand tall in the ring as American Alpha is down on the floor as NXT comes to a close.
