NXT Coverage – 6/1/16

We see the opening NXT video and then we go into the NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, and Corey Graves and Tom Phillips welcome us to the show.

The Revival’s music hits and Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder make their way to the ring. Wilder says at TakeOver they will become the two-time NXT Tag Team Championship. Dawson says American Alpha are great amateur athletes. He says they talk heavy and hit hard, and that’s exactly what they will do at TakeOver. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa’s music hits and they make their way to the ring. Wilder asks them if they are lost and asks them what they are doing in the ring. Ciampa says The Revival’s time has come and gone and that American Alpha is better than them. Ciampa says they cannot beat American Alpha, and they cannot beat he and Gargano. Dawson says they thing they are something special, and Wilder says in reality they are just good hands. Dawson says the renaissance in the tag team division is because of The Revival. He tells Ciampa and Gargano to go back to their bingo halls and they will take care of business in NXT. Ciamps asks if they are going to take care of business like they did in Dallas. Wilder says at least they were champions. Wilder says when Ciampa and Gargano have actually won something, they can come talk to The Revival. Dash and Dawson leave the ring, but Gargano grabs the mic and says they are running up the ramp pretty fast. Dash and Dawson stop and get back on the ring apron and get into the ring, but Ciampa and Gargano dropkick them and send them back to the floor.

We go backstage and see Cathy Keleley interviewing Shinsuke Nakamura. She asks him how he sees his match with Austin Aries will go next week. Shinsuke says Austin Aries will bow down to the King of Strong Style. We see that Austin Aries will go one-on-one with Elias Sampson later tonight, and we are reminded of Corey Graves’ exclusive interview with Samoa Joe and Finn Balor that we will see later on.

We see a video promoting the Steel Cage Match for the NXT Championship between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor that will take place at NXT TakeOver: The End next Wednesday night.

Match #1: Tye Dillinger vs. Buddy Murphy
Murphy backs into the ropes, but Dillinger grabs him and takes him down and taunts him with the “10” as Murphy is down on the mat. Murphy gets to his feet, but Dillinger takes him down with an arm-drag and when wrenches Murphy’s arm and wrist down on the mat. Murphy gets free and takes Dillinger down in the corner. Murphy backs away and charges and connects with a right hand to Dillinger. Murphy goes for the cover, but Dillinger kicks out at two. Murphy drops a knee and goes for another cover, but Dillinger kicks out at two. Murphy locks in a headlock down on the mat, but Dillinger fights to his feet. Dillinger drops down and rolls up Murphy, but Murphy kicks out at two. Dillinger delivers some chops and then takes Murphy down with a Thesz Press. Dillinger slings Murphy into the corner and takes him down with a back-drop. Dillinger stomps down on Murphy and then takes him to the corner and delivers left hands. Murphy shoves him off, but Dillinger connects with a superkick and delivers another left hand. Dillinger tosses Murphy down to the mat and drops his knee pad. Dillingers delivers a neck-breaker to Murphy and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Tye Dillinger.
After the match, we see highlights from the match. Dillinger stands tall in the ring as the crowd chants, “ten, ten ten!” and Murphy is left on the outside of the ring.

We see Corey Graves’ exclusive interview with Samoa Joe and Finn Balor. Graves asks Balor what went through his mind when he lost the title to Joe in Lowell, Massachusetts. Balor said that is a difficult question because he never saw it coming. He said he always imagine a fairy tale ending, and that was definitely not. Graves asks Balor if he has any regrets for accepting that match that night, and Balor says no because it was his job as champion to fight night in and night out. Graves asks Joe how he felt in Lowell that night and Joe says he felt like he did his job and earned what was his. Joe says he went through so many hoops to get the title. Balor says Joe came to NXT with a sense of entitlement and there are a lot of guys more deserving than Joe. Joe says there is no one more deserving than him. Joe says Balor never wanted to give him a fair shot after all he did to help Balor out. Graves says they came as friends and asks where it went south. Balor asks Joe what happened to him and Joe asks Balor what happened to him. Joe says he has been a champion everywhere he’s been and Balor says if Joe forgot that he has traveled as well. Joe asks Balor who put him in Japan and Balor says he put himself there with hard work. Graves takes them back to TakeOver: London and TakeOver: Dallas. Graves says balor has never been in a steel cage match and asks if that puts him at a disadvantage and Balor says perhaps it does. Joe says he knows he has the advantage because he has been in cage matches and knows what to do. Joe says he beat Balor in Lowell and he will beat him again in the cage. Graves asks Balor about the risk he is taking by accepting this cage match, and Balor says there is no risk, because the NXT Championship is the most important thing right now. Joe says this is an opportunity to show certain people where their place is. Balor and Joe go back and forth about stabbing each other in the back and Balor tells Joe to enjoy the title while it lasts and they get in each other’s face to end the interview.

We see that A Day to Remember’s “Paranoia” will be one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: The End.

Match #2: Elias Sampson vs. Austin Aries
Sampson gets Aries in a headlock and then wrenches Aries’ arm. Aries counters into his own arm wrench and takes Sampson down to the mat. Sampson gets to his feet and tries to get free, but Aries keeps a hold of Sampson’s arm. Sampson sends Aries to the corner and then takes him down with a clothesline. Aries comes back and takes Sampson down with an arm-drag and works over Sampson’s arm down on the mat. Sampson gets free, but Aries takes him down with a dropkick. Aries goes for the cover, but Sampson kicks out. Sampson drapes Aries over the top rope and then stomps him down in the corner. Sampson sends Aries off the ropes and then drops him with a clothesline. Sampson goes for the cover, but Aries kicks out. Sampson applies a headlock down on the mat. Aries fights to his feet and elbows his way out of the headlock and drops Sampson with a side suplex. Aries kicks and chops Sampson into the ropes and then drops him with a clothesline. Aries takes Sampson out of the corner and then drops an elbow on Sampson’s neck. Sampson rolls to the outside, but Aries takes him out with a suicide dive. Aries tosses Sampson back into the ring and then dropkicks Sampson in the corner. Aries grabs Sampson and drops him with a neck-breaker and then locks in the Last Chancery and Sampson taps out.
Winner: Austin Aries.
After the match, we see highlights from the match. Aries grabs a microphone. He says he has said it and has proven it in the ring. The crowd chants “Nakamura,” and Aries says at NXT TakeOver, he will prove he is the greatest and the spotlight will shine where it belongs and that is on Austin Aries.

We see that Nia Jax and Asuka will have their contract signing later tonight and that Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa will battle The Revival next.

We see a video hype package for the soon-to-debut Andrade “Cien” Almas, who will make his debut at NXT TakeOver: The End.

Match #3: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder)
Gargano and Dawson start the match and tie up. Dawson applies a headlock, but Gargano gets free and drops Dawson with a dropkick. Wilder gets into the ring, but Gargano take him down with a back-elbow. Ciampa tags in and he and Gargano double-team Dawson and Ciampa kicks him in the head. Ciampa goes for the cover, but Wilder kicks out. Ciampa applies a front face-lock, but Dawson backs him into the corner. Ciampa chops Dawson and then they exchange right hands. Ciamps drops Dawson with a clothesline and then knocks Wilder off the apron with a big boot. Dawson comes back and sends Ciampa to the outside and goes after Gargano as Wilder takes Ciampa down on the outside and we head to a break.
Back from the break, Wilder and Ciampa are the legal men in the ring. Wilder has Ciampa down on the mat and is working over his leg. Ciampa grabs Wilder and rolls him up, but Wilder kicks out. Wilder goes back to work on Ciampa’s leg and then tosses him to the outside. Dawson tags in and goes after him, but Ciamps sends him into the ring post. Ciamps gets back into the ring and tries to tag Gargano, but Dawson gets into the ring and cuts him off. Dawson slams him down to the mat and tags in Wilder, who continues to work over Ciampa’s leg. Dawson tags back in, but Ciampa makes it to Gargano and tags him in. Dawson whips Gargano into the corner, but Gargano comes back with a big kick to the face. Gargano takes Dawson down with a shoulder block and goes for the cover, but Wilder breaks it up. Dawson grabs Gargano and drops him with a DDT and goes for the cover, but Ciampa breaks it up. Wilder sends Ciampa back to the floor. Dawson grabs Gargano and sets him on the top rope, but Gargano fights back. Dawson gets on the rope and delivers a suplex to Gargano, but Gargano rolls through and gets the pin fall on Dawson.
Winners: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.
After the match, Dawson and Dash double-team Ciampa in the corner and beat him down and send Gargano to the floor. They deliver the Shatter Machine to Ciampa and then Dawson holds Ciampa’s knee and Wilder goes up top, but American Alpha run to the ring and begin to brawl with The Revival. Alpha double-suplex the Revival out of the ring and stand tall in the ring as Dash and Dawson walk up the ramp.

We see that the contract signing between Nia Jax and Asuka is next, and then we see that Baby Metal’s song “Karate” will be one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: The End.

We go back to the ring and William Regal is in the ring. He brings Nia Jax and Asuka to the ring. Regal begins talking about Asuka’s accomplishment in NXT, but Nia cuts him off. Nia says everyone has been running scared from Asuka and she doesn’t see why. Nia says Asuka has done nothing impressive. She says Asuka may have beaten Bayley, but she broke Bayley, she broke the heart and soul of NXT, just like she is going to break Asuka. Nia says Asuka has never faced anyone like her. Nia says she is the future and she is not scared of Asuka. Nia signs the contract. Asuka grabs the microphone and tells Nia that she talks too much. Asuka yells in Japanese and signs the contract and then tells Nia that she should be scared of her. Nia shoves Asuka away and Asuka goes after her, but Nia slams her down to the ring. Regal tells Nia to leave the ring and she does as Asuka is still down in the ring. Nia backs up the ramp with a smirk on her face as NXT comes to a close.
