1/8 WWE house show results from Houston

Jan 9, 2016 - by Steve Gerweck

* The floor is full and there’s a good buzz in the crowd. Upper sections tarped off, lots of kids in attendance

* Greg Hamilton from NXT is the host for the night while JoJo is doing ring announcing

* JoJo announces that John Cena is injured and won’t be here tonight, and that refunds will be available for the first 20 minutes of the show. WWE United States Champion Alberto Del Rio interrupts and cuts a promo on Cena. Chris Jericho interrupts that and gets a huge pop

* Chris Jericho defeated Alberto Del Rio in a non-title match with the Codebreaker. Great match, perfect opener – segment and match

* Titus O’Neil defeated Stardust with Clash of the Titus

* Rusev and Lana come out to rip on local sports teams. Rusev says he’s coming for the WWE World Heavyweight Title when Ryback interrupts

* Ryback defeated Rusev with Shellshocked in an average match

* R-Truth defeated Heath Slater in a throw-away match and comedy segment, really just bad filler and a waste of time, or a bathroom break if you didn’t go earlier

* Kalisto and El Torito defeated Los Matadores in a good comedy match

* Brock Lesnar with Paul Heyman defeated Sheamus in a really hard hitting match. Both of them went at it aggressively. Lesnar ate two stiff Brogue Kicks but hit five straight German suplexes for the win. Sheamus definitely went to Suplex City tonight, more than 10 times

* Dolph Ziggler defeated Tyler Breeze in a great match. This seemed like one of the longer matches of the night but they worked well together. Ziggler won with a superkick

* Brie Bella defeated Tamina Snuka with Summer Rae as special referee. Alicia Fox was at ringside with Brie but there was no sign of Sasha Banks or Naomi. Tamina controlled the match while fans chanted for Sasha. Tamina and Summer had words, leading to Summer pushing Tamina into Brie’s finisher

* WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose defeated Kevin Owens in an awesome street fight. Owens powerbombed Ambrose through the table but Ambrose came back and hit Dirty Deeds on a bunch of debris for the win. Ambrose greeted fans and celebrated on his way out, just the right ending to a really entertaining night

Pops of the Night: Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, Ryback

Heat of the Night: Rusev, Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Owens, Tamina with fans chanting for Sasha
