WWE Network Premiering In Japan Soon, Executive on WWE Looking at Asian Markets for Growth

Dec 11, 2015 - by Staff

– The Asian Review reports that the WWE Network will debut in the country on January 5th.

For now, the content will stream in English but WWE will see if it makes sense over time to translate some of the content to Japanese. WWE’s Chief Strategy and Financial Officer George Barrios commented on WWE in Japan:

“Japan has a long wrestling tradition. We have a very loyal and passionate fan base. Japan is very, very important for our global strategy.”

WWE is also eyeing other Asian markets, including China. Barrios said:

“Asia is a terrific growth opportunity for [the] WWE. And we see a big opportunity over the next five or 10 years across the region.”

“People around the world identify with WWE entertainment. They understand the story line of good vs. evil, or of a young champion trying to take the crown of the longtime champion. They get the emotion of that. And there is the appreciation of the athleticism our talent have on the screen when they perform.”
