Former AWA announcer passes away

Larry Shipley, better known as Larry Nelson, passed away last night after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Friends of Nelson had said about two weeks back that he had only a few weeks left to give.

Nelson announced in the mid to late 80s for Verne Gagne, during the last years of the promotion. In 2000, Nelson wrote an autobiography called “Stranglehold,” focusing on his time in wrestling.
