A “Previously on Impact Wrestling” recap starts tonight’s show that features Bully Ray revealing himself as the leader of Aces & Eights and Jeff Hardy earning a shot to take on Bully Ray for a shot at the TNA Championship. We then head into the arena in Jonesboro, AR, where we will see the return of Open Fight Night.
Jeff Hardy’s music hits as he makes his way to the ring and gets a loud “Hardy!” chant from the large crowd in attendance. Hardy says he isn’t 100% right now but he still tested himself against the likes of Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle and Magnus, and still came out on top. Since it’s Open Fight Night, Hardy says he is going to call someone out, but is interrupted by Bully Ray.
Ray comes out followed by Aces & Eights and says he is tired of listening to Hardy bitch and moan. Ray wonders if Hardy was about to call him out and says he wouldn’t want to see anything happen to Hardy in front of all of his moron creatures of the night. Mr. Anderson steps in and says he can’t believe Hardy is getting yet another second chance and has had around 75 chances, but rules don’t apply to him as he keeps on selling merchandise.
Anderson continues to say Hardy is nothing more than a disappointment and will be another disappointment at Corpus Christi against Bully Ray for the TNA Championship. Hardy then lunges at Anderson and knocks him off the ring apron, but Aces & Eights quickly swarm the ring as they get in a few licks before the ring is cleared by Samoa Joe, Eric Young, Kurt Angle and Magnus. Hardy then grabs the microphone and calls Anderson out for a fight tonight.
We see footage of last week’s Tag Team Championship match that was interrupted by Bad Influence. We then see Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez talking backstage and Chavo says it’s Open Fight Night as their music hits and they make their way to the ring and we head into a commercial break.
We return to the show as Chavo is on the microphone and says they were robbed last week in their shot at the TNA Tag Team Championship, but not by Austin Aries & Bobby Roode, but by Bad Influence. Chavo says tonight is all about revenge and he talked to Hulk Hogan, who made this match for the #1 Contenders for the Tag Team Championship.
Match 1: Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez vs. Bad Influence (#1 Contenders for TNA Tag Team Championship)
The match starts as Chavo and Hernandez work together on Kazarian to start things off. Kazarian is able to tag Daniels into the match and Hernandez and Chavo begin to work together to work over him as well. Chavo then sends Daniels out to the floor, but Kazarian drops the ropes behind him when he goes for a dive as Bad Influence takes control of the match as we head into a commercial break.
We return to the match and see Bad Influence is still in control and are working over Chavo with quick tags in and out. Chavo takes advantage of some miscommunication between Kazarian and Daniels and makes the hot tag to Hernandez, who comes in and tosses Bad Influence around the ring. Hernandez manages to pick up both Kazarian and Daniels and drops them down to pick up a near fall on Daniels. Kazarian then trips up Hernandez and Daniels tries to pick up a pin fall while Kazarian holds the leg, but Hernandez gets his foot on the ropes. Daniels tries for another pin fall while using the ropes for leverage, but the referee catches it.
Hernandez then hits a sitout powerbomb and tags Chavo into the match but Kazarian pushes him off the top rope as he is going for a Frog Splash. Daniels then tries to pick up a quick cover but Chavo kicks out. Hernandez dumps Kazarian out on the floor and nails Daniels with a flying shoulder block as he was setting up for the Angel’s Wings. Chavo then heads to the top rope and hits a Frog Splash to pick up the pin fall to become the #1 contenders for the Tag Team Championship.
Taryn Terrell is spilling out of her top in the locker room and says it’s going to be her first match tonight and with Open Fight Night, she has a good idea on who she is going to call out as we head into a commercial break.
A video recap from last week of Taryn Terrell being terminated as the Knockouts referee and being signed to the Knockouts roster is aired. Taryn then comes to the ring and says since it’s Open Fight Night there is one woman in the back that she wants to call out for costing her referee job and calls out Gail Kim. Gail comes out and says Taryn is going to embarrass herself on national television by calling out the best women’s wrestler. Gail then goes on and says there is another person who wants to get her hands on Taryn and tells Tara to come out to the ring. Tara comes out and Gail nails Taryn from behind. Tara then joins in on the beatdown until Velvet Sky comes out to make the save. Velvet clears the ring and the two sides shout at each other as Tara and Gail make their way back up the entrance.
The announce team then hype tonight’s main event of Jeff Hardy taking on Mr. Anderson as we head into a commercial break.
Velvet Sky and Taryn Terrell are backstage and Velvet talks about having to have her back as Taryn runs off and attacks Gail Kim and Tara as they are walking by. Velvet then runs after and pulls Taryn away as Tara pulls Gail away. The announce team hypes the return of Gut Check, which will return next week. A video package is aired that highlights the past participants before we head backstage where Jeremy Borash shows us next week’s contestants with Magno taking on Adam Pearce.
Sting is backstage and is stopped by going into Hulk Hogan’s office by security. Sting then begins to shout to try a different approach as we head into a commercial break.
A video recap of what took place at the start of tonight’s show is aired. We then see Hulk Hogan in the office talking to Jeff Hardy and Hogan tells him that he booked a match between Hardy and Bully Ray on April 11th at Corpus Christi. Hogan then puts over what Hardy did last week to put his rematch on the line last week. Hogan then apologizes for costing Hardy the title at Lockdown. Hardy says everyone makes mistakes as Hogan tells Hardy he can pick his match stipulation. Sting’s music then hits as Hogan gets up and says he isn’t supposed to be here tonight.
Sting makes his way to the ring and says Bully Ray swerved him and says he needs to fix the problem. Sting says he needs to be on the same page, though, with Hulk Hogan and since it’s Open Fight Night, Sting calls out Hogan. Hogan’s music hits as he comes to the ring and stares Sting down. Sting says he has tried to apologize to Hogan twice now and if Hogan doesn’t take his apology for a third time, things will get nuclear tonight.
Hogan steps in and says Sting made him go against his gut instinct and made a decision that messed up the whole company. Sting reminds Hogan that he is the general manager and needs to take responsibility for making his decisions. Hogan says as the general manager, he is tired of Sting getting in his face and tells Sting to get the hell out of his ring. Hogan snarls at Sting, who turns around, but gets back in Hogan’s face and tells Hogan to make him leave the ring. Security runs into the ring and separates the two and gets Sting to leave the ring as Hogan says it’s not over between the two of them. Sting is then escorted to the back as we head into a commercial break.
TNA may want to think about changing this concept to Open Talk Night. One match in the first hour? Wow.
A recap of what just went down between Hulk Hogan and Sting is aired. During the break, Matt Morgan is seen clapping his hands as he calls Sting another Hogan mistake. The announce team then turn their attention to AJ Styles as we see a video package on what has gone down with Styles over the past year. The video focuses mainly on what has gone down over the past few weeks with his open invitation to Aces & Eights and him attacking James Storm.
James Storm’s music hits as the Cowboy makes his way to the ring with a microphone. Storm says AJ Styles made his big return two weeks ago and it wasn’t the return he was looking for. Since tonight is Open Fight Night, Storm says he is going to take the time to call out AJ Styles. No music hits but Styles appears in standing in the crowd.
Storm says he knows what Styles is going though as he went through it last year. Storm says he left for a while before coming back and picking things up. Storm then says they handle things two ways, talk about it over beers, or fight with their fists. Storm leaves the choice up to Styles, but Aces & Eights storm the ring and attack Storm while Styles just walks away.
Eric Young comes out to help Storm, but the numbers are too much. Kurt Angle then comes out and clears the ring. Angle then says he is not done with them yet and says there three of them on each side and wants to make a six-man tag team match. A referee comes out and we finally get another match, a hour and fifteen minutes into the broadcast.
Match 2: James Storm/Eric Young/Kurt Angle vs. Aces & Eights (DOC/Garett Bischoff/Wes Brisco)
Storm starts off strong going up against Bischoff before tagging EY into the match. EY gets a little too cocky, though, as Bischoff takes Young down with a clothesline and tags Brisco into the ring. Brisco continues on the attack but EY takes Brisco down with a flying forearm for a near fall. EY tags Angle into the match, who comes in and begin wearing Brisco down as Brisco is isolated into their corner. A distraction allows Brisco to level EY with a clothesline and Aces & Eights takes control of the match as we head into a commercial break.
We return to the match and see EY fight out of a headlock and makes the hot tag to Storm, who takes down both Brisco and Bischoff, but it caught from behind by DOC. DOC is then tagged in and crushes Storm in the corner and picks up a couple of near falls in the process. Aces & Eights begin working Storm over with quick tags and pick up a few more near falls. Storm finally counters DOC’s offense and makes a hot tag to Angle.
Angle comes in and takes Brisco and Bischoff down with clotheslines before hitting all three of them with German suplexes. Angle then hits Brisco with an Angle Slam, but D’Lo Brown distracts Angle. Bischoff begins wrapping a chain around his hands but Angle is able to duck out of the way and Angle puts Bischoff in an ankle lock, however, Brisco pulls him off and rolls up Angle for the pin while grabbing the tights.
Bully Ray, Mr. Anderson and Devon are backstage and salute DOC, Bischoff and Brisco for getting the job done. Ray then says he can’t believe Jeff Hardy has the balls to challenge Mr. Anderson tonight. Ray then says he can’t believe Hulk Hogan has the balls to let Hardy make the match stipulation. Anderson then goes off and says Hardy won’t even make it to Corpus Christi and says he is going to take him out tonight. The announce team hype the main event as we head into a commercial break.
A video package of the X Division Evolution is aired, which recaps the new X Division rules and last week’s match between Kenny King, Zema Ion and Sonjay Dutt. Jeremy Borash then hypes the X Division Xtravaganza which airs in eight days on pay-per-view. Since Sonjay Dutt last week, he will have to go up against Mason Andrews and the returning Petey Williams next week to earn a shot against Kenny King.
The announce team then hypes matches that take place in two weeks at Corpus Christi with Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez going up against Austin Aries & Bobby Roode for the TNA Tag Team Championship and Bully Ray defending the TNA World Championship against Jeff Hardy. We then see footage of Bully Ray winning the TNA World Championship at Lockdown. Footage of the start of tonight’s show is then aired as we are set to head into the main event.
Match 3: Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson
The match starts and the two exchange blows until Hardy takes Anderson down with a head scissors as Anderson goes out to the floor. Hardy then dives off the apron and takes Anderson out on the floor and sends Anderson into the apron. Anderson then counters and sends Hardy into the steel steps and then charges at Anderson on the entrance ramp but Hardy backdrops Anderson into the ring as we head into a commercial break.
We return to the match and see Anderson has taken control and has Hardy in an armbar. Anderson then hits an armbreaker and picks up a near fall over Hardy. Anderson and Hardy begin trading blows until Hardy hits Anderson with a flying forearm and his signature leg drop for a near fall. Hardy then hits a splash from the middle rope for another near fall. Anderson then counters and hits a fireman’s carry to pick up another near fall. Anderson then ducks out of the way with a corkscrew and Anderson picks up another couple near falls.
Anderson then backs into the referee and knocks him down as Garett Bischoff runs out and hands Anderson a hammer. Hardy ducks out of the way and hits Anderson with a Twist of Fate. Hardy then picks up the hammer and uses it in plain view of Earl Hebner as he calls for the bell and disqualifies Hardy. Hardy then nails Bischoff with the hammer in the midsection before rolling out to the floor and grabs a steel chair. Hardy then nails Anderson with the chair before using the chair to hit the Whisper in the Wind that knocks Anderson over the top rope and back into the ring.
Hardy goes out to the floor once more and slides a table and a ladder into the ring. Hardy sets them up and gives Anderson enough time to recover. Anderson tries to suplex Hardy onto the table, but Hardy counters and takes Anderson out with a Twist of Fate. Hardy puts Anderson onto the table and begins climbing the ladder, but Bully Ray runs out and pulls Anderson off and knocks the table down before leaving the ring. Hardy then grabs the microphone and says he has made up his mind for the match stipulation. Hardy says it’s going to be tables, ladders, chairs, and stairs in Full Metal Mayhem. Bully Ray mouths the words “perfect!” and Taz says he likes Aces & Eights chances as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.
