– In his first pro match, York faced Joey Matthews.
– York and Matthews won a three way dance on October 23, 1997 to capture the MEWF (Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation) Tag Team title.
– On March 26, 1998, York defeated Matthews in Raleigh, NC to win the SCW (Southern Championship Wrestling) Junior Heavyweight title.
– York defeated Julio Sanchez on June 13, 1998 in Alexandria, VA to claim the IPWA (Independent Professional Wrestling Alliance) Light Heavyweight title.
– On September 2, 1998, York regained the IPWA Light Heavyweight title from Sanchez in Richmond, VA.
– York regained the SCW Junior Heavyweight title from Matthews on November 21, 1998 in Louisburg, NC.
– York pinned Tom Brandi on December 2, 1998 in Glen Burnie, MD for the MCW (Maryland Championship Wrestling) Cruiserweight title.
