Page Wins War Games, Will Face Goldberg

WCW presented Fall Brawl live on pay-per-view Sunday night from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Chris Jericho interrupted Gene Okerlund to announce that WCW Champion Goldberg had agreed to defend his title against Jericho on the show.

In the opening match, The British Bulldog and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart defeated the dancing fools, Alex Wright and The Disco Inferno. The Bulldog used his powerslam to pin The Inferno.

Backstage, “Buff” Bagwell produced a piece of paper that he claimed was from a Dr. Cecil Swartz, that would excuse Scott Steiner from taking on his brother Rick. J.J. Dillon reviewed the document and said it was bogus, and told Scott that he if he didn’t wrestle his brother, he would be banned for life.

Chris Jericho, escorted by two over weight and under dressed security guards, finally made his way to ring side. Goldberg’s music started up, however, it was not the WCW Champion. A junior version of the man fell victim to Jericho’s Lion Tamer submission maneuver.

In the second official match, Ernest Miller scored a victory over Norman Smiley. After the match, Miller again proclaimed, “I am the greatest.”

The brother versus brother bout ended in a no contest when the match was stopped after Rick Steiner rammed Buff Bagwell’s head into the top turnbuckle. Bagwell claimed his previously injured neck was re-injured, and a stretcher was brought out. Once he could be safely moved, he was escorted to an awaiting ambulance. Scott Steiner volunteered to ride with Bagwell to the hospital. Steiner and Bagwell jumped out of the vehicle and attacked Rick.

Juventud Guerrera successfully defended the WCW Cruiserweight title beating Silver King with a 450 splash.

Raven and Saturn competed in a special stipulations match. If Raven won, he would have Saturn as his servant as long as Saturn wrestled. If Saturn won, Raven’s flock would break up. The match was fought under Raven Rules, which meant it was a no disqualification contest. It was the most exciting match on the card, as the two went back and forth using all the stops. Saturn sent Flock member Lodi through an outside table will using the Death Valley Driver. Saturn used the same move to finally defeat Raven.

Dean Malenko beat Curt Hennig via disqualification when Rick Rude interfered to stop Malenko from using Hennig’s own fisherman suplex. Arn Anderson arrived to help Malenko, but was double-teamed by Hennig and Rude. The combo combined to work on Arn’s left arm, the arm he’ll use to arm wrestle Eric Bischoff Thursday on Thunder.

Scott Hall with an alcoholic beverage in hand, made his way to the ring. Hall gave the impression he was intoxicated. Konnan and Hall wrestled, as Hall took sips of his favorite drink. Konnan used the Tequilla Sunrise to score the victory.

The main event was a double ring steel cage match called War Games. Three teams competed, with the winning individual receiving a title shot against Goldberg at the next WCW pay-per-view. Diamond Dallas Page and Bret Hart started the match, and ever two minutes, another wrestler would enter the cage until all nine participants had entered. The eighth man to enter was Hogan, who fled the cage when The Warrior appeared. The Warrior cased Hogan to the back, which took them out of the contest. Page used a Diamond Cutter on Stevie Ray to score the pinfall. Page will face Goldberg for the WCW World Title at their next pay-per-view, Halloween Havoc, on October 25th.

The next wrestling pay-per-view is Sunday, September 27th, when the WWF presents Breakdown featuring a triple threat match between Steve Austin, Kane, and The Undertaker.
