Ten Things Wrong in Professional Wrestling
After focusing on the positives last week, just a "few" things to get off my chest this week:
1. WCW. Where do I begin? Lets state the obvious; the company needs to focus less on veterans well pass their primes such as Terry Funk, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan and push the next generation of stars - Kidman, Booker, Bagwell, Vampiro, etc. WCW needs to break away from the stigma of being an old company. It is obvious with the volume of recent releases; the company needs to bring in “fresh” faces.
2. Mae Young. Ok, granted, she was brought in to provide comedic relief, but it is time to phase her out. The February 28th edition of "Raw" featuring Young giving birth to a "hand" was one of the most disgraceful segments I have ever witnessed. If she continues to take hardcore bumps, she will be seriously injured.
3. Commercials during "ECW on TNN." It is not the commercials; it is the way they are sequenced that kills the flow of ECW's Friday night cable show. Televised matches should never contain commercial interruptions unless it is a special attraction.
4. Titles in World Championship Wrestling. WCW has done little to elevate their titles. 3 Count won the Hardcore title, not the six-man tag title, but the Hardcore title! "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan found the Television title in the trash, and has only been allowed to defend it on WCW Saturday night.
5. Chyna and Chris Jericho. Chyna with Y2J serves no purpose, separate them.
6. ECW's talent roster. Little Guido, Tajiri, and Jerry Lynn are often stuck wrestling against each other exposing the lack of depth. Signing Blitzkrieg, Super Calo, and even Shane Douglas would bolster the roster.
7. Scott Hudson sentenced to WCW Saturday Night. WCW's best play by play announcer has been removed from "Thunder," and assigned to work exclusively with the annoying Larry Zbysko.
8. D-Lo Brown with the Godfather. At one time, it appeared the up and coming D-Lo Brown was being groomed to be a singles star. However in recent times, Brown has become the regular tag team partner of the Godfather’s, a role that D-Lo (Accie O’Conner) loathes.
9. Joel Gertner on TNN. It is said that Gertner requires coaching prior to taping the voice-overs, and it definitely shows. His commentary comes off as totally pointless and artificial.
10. Harris brothers. This is a no brainer; these two are jobber, not champions! Hey WCW, stop pushing them down our throats.
