Taz Takes Advantage of a Triple Threat Double Cross to Win the ECW Title
Taz won the ECW title from three-time champion Shane Douglas in the main event of “Guilty As Charged.” In a desperate panic, Douglas held up three fingers indicating it was time for the Triple Threat. Tammy Lynn Sytch arrived in the ring, only to be speared by Francine.
Chris Candido entered the ring and nailed Douglas, who fell to the mat in disbelief. Taz seized the moment and applied the Tazmission, the Katsahajimi! The referee checked Douglas, and when his arm hit the mat for the third time, Taz was declared winner, and new ECW World Heavyweight Champion. Douglas’s thirteen-month reign has come to an end.
In the semi-main event, hard-core legend Terry Funk turned his back on Tommy Dreamer in the ladder match, subtitled “Stairway to Heaven.” Justin Credible grabbed a second ladder from underneath the ring, and attempted to climb up to capture the Singapore cane. Dreamer climbed up his ladder at the same time and caught Credible half way up. He applied the “Dreamer Cutter,” allowed him to grab the cane.
As Dreamer attempted to use the weapon, Terry Funk nailed Dreamer with a trash can, permitting Credible to use the cane, and gaining the fall. After the match, Funk continued to beat up a defenseless Dreamer, who was heavily bleeding from the forehead.
In the shock of the night, former WWF champion Sid appeared to face John Kronus, whom he destroyed with his patented powerbomb.
Rob Van Dam was scheduled to defend the ECW television championship against Masato Tanaka. Due to transportation problems, Tanaka was replaced by Lance Storm. Storm, Little Spike Dudley, and Jerry Lynn were to face off in a three-way dance. Spike Dudley teamed with New Jack to face the Dudley’s in an unscheduled tag team match. Lynn missed the card with a fractured pelvis.
During the bout, the referee was knocked out as Storm covered Van Dam for the apparent victory. When the referee came to, Van Dam kicked out. In the finale, Van Dam used a German suplex to defeat Storm, and remain television champion.
The five time ECW tag team champions, the Dudley Boys appeared to challenge any team from the back to a streetfight. Little Spike Dudley and New Jack accepted their challenge. The Dudley’s used their Dudley Deathdrop on Spike to gain the win. After the match, Bubba Ray Dudley challenged Public Enemy to a match this Saturday (the 16th) at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia.
The opening bout started out between Roadkill and Danny Doring vs. the Full Blooded Italians. During the match, Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten appeared at ringside, and decided to make the match a three-way dance. Tommy Rich smashed the Italian flag over Doring, allowing the FBI to eliminate Doring and Roadkill.
With two teams left Balls & Axl hit simultaneous Nutcracker Suite's and Curtain Call's to finish the FBI off. After the match Big Sal E. Graziano and Big Guido tried interfering but received chair shots for their
efforts.
Yoshihiro Tajiri defeated Super Crazy in a high-flying encounter, with many near falls. Tajiri used his dragon suplex into a bridge to win the match.
The pay-per-view card was changed due to Tanaka’s no-show, and Lynn’s injury situation. It was obvious that Joey Styles still needs a color analysis to help him during the down times.
Extreme Championship Wrestling returns to pay-per-view Sunday, March 21st, for “Living Dangerously.”
