Headlines for Thursday, March 12, 2009

- ECW on 3/10 did a 1.3 cable rating with an average audience of 1,784,000 viewers.

- ECW TV notes from Jacksonville, FL. Primo beat The Miz in a very good opening match. Far better than any match this week on Raw. Carlito and Morrison did commentary, and The Bella Twins were at ringside. If they do add a tag match to Wrestlemania I guess it would be these two teams in title vs. title. Tyson Kidd pinned DJ Gabriel with his springboard elbow drop. Christian won the battle royal for the final slot in Money in the Bank. A funny off camera note was that as R-Truth was rapping through the crowd before the match all the guys in the ring were bobbing their heads to the music. Because they only had 8 minutes half the guys bumped out in the first minute. The final two were Christian and Chavo. Finish was Chavo stood on the outside apron and Christian caught between the middle ropes. Christian used the ropes as a spring to kick Chavo in the face and knock him down for the win.

- Kizarny (Nick Cvjetkovich) blogged about his release. He said he wasn't going to be bitter or complain and is "too stupid and crazy to ever quit" the wrestling business.

- Ken Shamrock was suspended for one year and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission for testing positive after his fight against Ross Clifton last month. 'The World's Most Dangerous Man' tested positive for a cocktail of Stanozolol, Norandrosterone, Noretiocholanolone steroids according to the Los Angeles Times. Shamrock won the fight against his big opponent and it was his first win in a couple of years.

- The Office of the Hennepin County Attorney held a press conference today and announced that no charges will be filed against Verne Gagne in connection with the death of Helmut Gutmann. "Gagne will not be charged, since because of Gagne's illness, he is unaware of what happened. Gagne suffers from Dementia, such that it would make it impossible and unjust for him to be held criminally responsible under the law in Minnesota," said chief prosecutor Michael Freeman. The news was also carried on the official website at hennepinattorney. org. Gutmann died of complications after he and WWE Hall of Famer Verne Gagne engaged in a physical exchange at a health facility in Bloomington.
