Headlines for Wednesday and Thursday, January 21 & 22, 2009
- Randy Orton had an altercation with a fan at a WWE event in LaCrosse, Wisconsin Saturday night. Apparently the fan may have said something, and Orton replied with obsentities towards the fan, and according to the source, Orton lost his cool and shoved the guard rail into the fans legs. Orton got in the fans' face, grabbed his hat and threw it. Security had to separate the two and apologized to the fan.
- The recently released Mickie Henson has lymphoma. The former WCW and WWE referee kept it a secret. Apparently John Laurinaitis and Vince McMahon were aware of his illness, along with a few of his friends (such as Batista). He had been promised he'd continue being employeed since he didn't have any health insurance, but you know how far promises go in this industry.
- The return of Mr. McMahon helped RAW improve in the ratings. Monday night's episode did hours of 3.65 and 4.08 for a two hour average of 3.87.
- The 1/20 ECW on Sci Fi scored a 1.3 cable rating, with an average of 1,827,000 viewers.
- Darren Aronofsky's 'The Wrestler' received two Oscar nominations.
Mickey Rourke, who played Randy 'The Ram' Robinson in the movie got the nod
in the Best Actor category. He will be facing off against Richard Jenkins,
Frank Langella, Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. The other nomination went to Marisa
Tomei in the Best Supporting Actress category. She played the stripper
Cassidy in the movie and is up against Penelope Cruz, Viola Davis, Amy Adams
and Taraji P Henson. Bruce Springsteen was also rumored to get a nomination
for the song he wrote for the movie but he didn't get it. He won a Golden
Globe earlier this month for best song. The Oscars will be presented
February 22 from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre and will be hosted by Hugh
Jackman.
- Dr. Phil Astin has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors. Astin was the family doctor for the Benoit family at the time of the Benoit tragedy, and reportedly had many clients in the wrestling business.
Astin was indicted with 175 counts of illegal prescription abuse to Chris Benoit, Johnny Grunge and others.
