Headlines for Friday & Saturday, January 16 and 17, 2009
- Another longtime WWE employee, Bob Holly, has been given the boot and
released yesterday from his WWE contract. Holly has been employed since
1994, a total of 15 years, making him one of the longest WWE Superstars to
stay with the company. Holly made his debut in January 1994 under the name
Thurman "Sparky" Plugg and wrestled for RAW, Smackdown! and even WWE's
version of ECW. During his time in the WWE, Holly won the Tag Team titles
three times - with 1-2-3 Kid, Crash Holly and Cody Rhodes and won the
Hardcore title six times.
- WWE Diva Victoria, whose last match for the WWE airs tonight on
Smackdown!, addressed her fans on her MySpace account regarding her
retirement. Victoria said choosing to leave was a very difficult decision
and her co-workers thought she'd be staying there forever. She added that
she was not happy with some opportunities that WWE gave her and while there
are thousands of women who would "kill or die" to be a Diva it wasn't right
for her to occupy a spot that her heart wasn't in it. Regarding what's next
for her, the former WWE Women's champ said that she's been training Jiu
Jitsu and is considering MMA apart from learning how to DJ. "And I haven't
ruled out the idea of jumping back in the squared circle occasionally down
the road," she said.
