- The 7/24 edition of ECW on Sci Fi scored a 1.31 cable rating.
- The sci fi film, "Southland Tales,” featuring former WWE superstar The Rock, Kevin Smith and Sarah Michelle-Gellar is slated for a 11/9 national release.
- A new steroid scandal might hit WWE very soon. 36 year old Dr. Claire
Godfrey pleaded guilty to a felony drug count yesterday in connection with a
nationwide steroid distribution ring. According to the Times Union
newspaper, clients of the former Mrs. Florida contestant include at least
two WWE wrestlers who were not named. Dr. Godfrey is the seventh to plead
guilty in this case for writing steroids prescriptions for athletes. The
prosecution is building up the case against Signature Pharmacy, an Orlando
company owned by husband-and- wife pharmacists Stan and Naomi Loomis.
Authorities say that if the case against Signature ever goes to court, Dr.
Godfrey would be one of their star witnesses. The Times Union newspaper also
confirms that Chris Benoit obtained steroids that allegedly were signed by
Dr. Gary Brandwein, a South Florida doctor also under indictment in Albany
in the same case. The prescriptions attributed to Brandwein were delivered
to Benoit in 2005 and 2006, according to shipping records reviewed by the
newspaper. Authorities are continuing to examine how many pro wrestlers may
have received steroids from Signature Pharmacy.
- Edge underwent successful surgery over the weekend to repair his torn left pectoral
muscle, an injury he received during the Smackdown! tapings in New Orleans two weeks
ago. Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL., performed the surgery. Dr. Andrews said that
once they opened up the Rated-R Superstar, it was discovered that he had a
complete tear of the tendon attaching to the muscle...right off the bone!
Dr. Andrews admits that initially he thought that the tear was only a
partial but everyone was surprised to find out that it was completely torn.
"The injury could have been career-threatening if not properly repaired," he
added. Edge is expected to stay out of the ring for the next four months.
- TNA Wrestling has been talking with representatives from FOX lately in a
move that could see an additional television show on the network. TNA
President Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett met with FOX officials in Los
Angeles last week and the month before to discuss the possibilities between
the two companies. In related television news, Spike TV - which airs iMPACT!
- has moved TNA's lead-in UFC's 'The Ultimate Fighter' to Wednesdays
starting from the new season which may possibly indicate that iMPACT! will
be expanding to two hours come this Fall.
